🖤🩸“I have always wondered what my destiny was. This vampiric witcher believes it’s to bear his pup, and to drink from me.” – Frida King🩸🖤 … I could swear I just heard bells resounding in my ears. I would still be participating in the Games. Of course, what was I expecting? Will a few tears and mate bonds make him understand me? I had it wrong. “Frida?” he said taking my hands, with a trustworthy look in his eyes. “I knew I gave you my word but this was a result of the meeting with other ranks,” “So, they don’t like me?” I let out. “No, no, not at all. They want to allow you to prove yourself,” King Draco said, with electricity lacing my hands from his touch. My wolf was starting to react once more. “But I’m your mate,” I let out, “Isn’t that enough?” “No one says it isn’t, but there are certain requirements to uphold as the mother of this country,” he said, making me puff a breath of air impatiently. “Fine,” I breathed out. “You’re not upset?” he asked, rubbing my hands softly. His body contact with mine was really getting into my senses. And it felt comfortable, really soothing. His scent was something… sandalwood and aftershave. I hoped it wasn’t happening. That I wasn’t going into the second stage of mating. “No,” I blurted out, wanting to withdraw my hands from him. But I didn’t. I had been vulnerable a few minutes ago, and it was like his presence filled in the gaps. Moreover, I saw this coming. “Being the Queen of a nation isn’t easy. There are tenets to uphold-“ I paused immediately withdrawing my hands from him. He narrowed his eyes at me, “How do you know so much about being a Queen?” I immediately searched for a tangible explanation before saying, “I read and observe, goddess forbids a woman to quest for knowledge,” Staring at him, I hoped he bought that explanation. “I just want the best for you,” King Draco let out. “And the fighting requirement is not to the death, so don’t worry, just give your best and I’ll handle the rest,” Now I was sure. The King had fallen in love with me. I had to use it to my advantage, somehow. “Okay thank you,” I said only for him to take my hands in his again, bringing them to his lips and kissing them as he said, “If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask me,” Dropping my hands, he stood up heading for the door. As he did, I saw this as an opportunity to get what I needed. “May I ask for something that might help me win the Games?” “Sure, what is that?” he said, approaching me in his dark overcoat and sprawled hair. I swallowed, at the way they clenched his biceps before bracing myself to focus. “The war records, can I have access to them?” A look of surprise was written on his features but he was quick to hide it. “What do you need something as sensitive as that for, Lady Frida?” I need to know my enemies. I need to know if you had a hand in my parents’ disappearance. I said. But I didn’t say it out. It was all in my head. “I want to read broadly about the possible strategies that each of my teammates would use against me. I want to win,” I said. “You made it clear that I should give my best. This is my attempt to be just that,” “Fine, you have it,” he suddenly said. “Just make sure you keep it confidential. It’s a powerful piece in the Kingdom of Shrekers,” I nodded, “Definitely, I would,” And, just as I did, he waved to me, “Come with me,” I immediately ran my hands through my hair, putting on my sandals. I was just having difficulty with the left leg when he bent down placing the hook in place for me. “Here, let me help you with that,” he said making a twinge of guilt laced within me. It made me wish that it was all a misunderstanding. That he wasn’t the one responsible for my parents’ disappearance and our pairing could be normal. But dreams were surely for sleep, wasn’t it? These were my thoughts as I strode down the hallways with the King looking around and observing everything. The grey tiles, marble walls, and colors at the other end led to our destination. Three guards wore silver armors as cloth, with a helmet that covered their faces except their eyes which were dark. It was obvious they saw from it though. “Your Highness,” they said, with a slight bow and he waved at them ushering me to come along. I followed him placing my hands in front of me taking in the library as the door slammed shut behind us. The floor was brown and cemented in brown squares. It had divisions, with lampstands for each section of wooden tables which had sand colored rug underneath. There were books on some of the tables which were voluminous, and this didn’t give a bigger justice to the library itself, whose ceilings extended high up. The books were on shelves which were created in several high and low areas, with books at every layer. Observing this, I followed the King who took a pause just as we got to the other end on the left. He put his hands through some stacks running them through in a noble way before dropping them in my hands. “Here,” he said. “You can with this, they are our latest expenditures, with the best techniques from our warlords craftily written,” “Ahh… I see,” I let out, trying to contain them all in my hands only for him to go towards the tables extending his hands towards them. “You can put them here while you study, I’ll have the guards bring you some refreshments,” he muttered, making me blink in surprise. “W-When does the match begin?” I muttered, stammering a bit in anxiousness. “Three days to now,” As he said those words, he leaned in pecking my cheek which made me glare at him. His warm breath fanned my cheeks, and my wolf purred. I couldn’t deny I liked this gesture, but I frowned knowing he was the enemy. “Very well then,” I said, “I’d better start getting but prepared,” At my words, he withdrew from the peck staring at me which made me change my expression. I smiled at him, and he grinned back, walking out of the library and shutting the door behind him as he left. Walking to check each segment of the library and making sure I was the only one inside, I came back to my chair. “Mom, Dad. Just wait, I’m coming for you,” I said, fisting my hands in determination. Sitting on the chair, I reached for my hair, rolling it into a messy bun before commencing. “War strategies and battles of the Shrekers Kingdom,” I read, “These battle strategies have been used by top warlords and if you are reading now, you must have reached a fighting peak. This is why your master’s gave you access to this book, congratulations,” Fighting peak? I wondered if that still counted for people who took shortcuts. “Now, to the main focus. Fighting is not about the strongest but about the fastest and who uses the best strategy thinking his way out of the hands of the enemy,” I breathed out, knowing this was not what I searched for. But I folded that part, seeing it as useful. My hands scanned through the pages for records of the combats they partook in. I looked through the pages checking the back only to see list of nations they recently war in. I searched for my Kingdom’s name but could find none. “C’mon, where are you?” I muttered, already giving up when I saw something written at the bottom. Ava and Caspian King.
