CHAPTER 35 CHLOE The fluorescent lights from the hallway flooded my apartment as I opened the door, cutting through the dim candlelight. I blinked, my eyes adjusting to the harsh brightness. When my eyes finally adjusted, it landed on two police officers. The man was tall, broad-shouldered with his hand resting on his belt. The woman was shorter, her hair pulled back in a tight bun, her eyes scanning me with caution. "Chloe Hastings?" the woman asked and I my voiced siezed for a second as I stared at the both of them. Why are there cops at my front door? "Y-yes?" The man's gaze dropped to my robe, then back up to my face. I could feel heat creeping up my neck, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. My fingers tightened on the edge of the door while I tried to keep a straight face.
