Chapter 11: Suspicious

1175 Words
Micah huffed when he heard the door and turned away from his brother. He pulled out his phone and started tapping aggressively against the screen as if he needed an outlet for his frustration. "Aw, don't feel too bad Micah," Mason said, patting him on the back as if to comfort him, "It's not your fault dad just prefers me more." His smile showed sincerity but his words lacked empathy. There was a glint of pleasure in his eyes seeing how much Micah was affected by this. Although he never meant to always come first than his brother, it was still amusing to watch Micah try and exceed him. Micah shoved his hands off him. "Leave me alone." He just chuckled and ruffled his hair teasingly. Messing with his baby brother was one of his favorite things to do, especially to see that annoyed look on his face. Micah just ignored him and continued texting his friend. He was planning to go out for a little bit and have a bit of fresh air. "Who's that your texting?" He tried to peer over but Micah obstructed his view with his shoulder. "Is it Mariana? Are you going to tell her to come over to cheer you up?" He smirked, a hidden intention behind his conniving words. Micah looked up at him with a scowl, knowing exactly what he was hinting at. "No, I'm not like you." He wasn't like his brother who would just have girls round and pay them for an hour whenever he was in a bad mood. The fact that he would even suggest that in regards to Mariana made him feel disgusted, and wanted to slap him for talking like that about her. Mason just laughed as he retreated to his seat, thinking that it was all just a big joke since he could hardly take Micah seriously. "How is she anyway?" He slumped back onto the couch and leaned back with his legs crossed. "Why do you want to know?" He hissed with suspicion as he kept his eyes on the screen, his eyebrows firmly knitted together. "I'm just asking," He raised his hands in defense. He never thought Micah would get so possessive. Micah frowned and studied his face. He seemed genuine but he wasn't completely convinced. "You know what." He stood up abruptly and placed his phone down. "I'm gonna go out for a bit." "But you just got here..." he slowly uttered in confusion. "I know," he said and went upstairs to change. Mason sighed and then noticed that Micah had left his phone behind unlocked. He quickly picked it up and began to pitch a text on his chat with Mariana. Even though Micah said no, he decided to text her to come anyway. He quickly put the phone down once he heard approaching footsteps. Micah then appeared and zipped up his jacket. He threw Mason a questionable glance. He had an innocent face but the way he stood was suspicious as if he has just done something he wasn't supposed to. "Well, I'm going to head out now," he slowly said as he picked up his phone. "Okay see you later." "Bye." He slipped his phone and his keys into his pocket and went to the front entrance. **** Mariana and Elena walked down the steps while laughing to themselves. They had just spent the day playing with Timmy and teaching him new tricks. "Thanks for having me over Elena, I had a great time," she said with a sunny smile. "It's no problem! I can't wait for you to come over next time!" "Yeah," she chuckled and then unlocked her car. She gave Elena one final hug before hopping in. "Bye Mariana, see you tomorrow!" She waved as Mariana pulled out onto the road. Mariana switched on the radio as she relaxed in the seat. She was exhausted and wanted to rest when she got home, but she was feeling happy inside because she had a good day. When she got back to her house, she grabbed her bag from the passenger seat and got out her keys. It twirled around her fingers as she approached the door. She unlocked it and as soon as she went in, Rio came running towards her and rubbed himself against her legs. "Hello my baby," she stroked him and then gently pushed him to the side to get in. She got her phone out and threw her bag onto the couch. She slid her shoes off and went upstairs to her bedroom while scrolling through her phone. She raised one eyebrow as she noticed that she had a new message from Micah. Bubba❤️❤️❤️: Hey sexy, I was wondering if you come round mine so that I can see your pretty face?? Had a really bad day today and you're the only person to turn my frown upside down. She was a bit surprised and found it a little bit uncomfortable to read. Not because of what it said, but because it didn't feel like Micah had written it. However, if he really did have a bad day, then she would surprise him tomorrow with a cake. She placed her phone down and grabbed her laptop while she settled into the sheets of her beds. Rio jumped onto her lap so she held him close. She began to search up some recipes to see if there was something special she could make him. She knew chocolate cakes were his favorite dessert but she wondered if there was a way to spice it up a little. She eventually found a cake with triple chocolate layered strawberries and thought that it would be the perfect thing to cheer Micah up. She made a note of the recipe and then closed her laptop. "Come on Rio, let's go make a cake." She got out of bed and Rio followed her down into the kitchen where she got out the ingredients. She placed her phone down and started to FaceTime Leilani so they can have a chat while she baked. She started to make the paste when Leilani finally answered. Her sleepy eyes appeared with her messy hair as she munched on some cookies. "Hi!" Mariana smiled into the camera. "Hey!" "Are you free right now?" "Um, I guess so, yeah." "What are you doing right now?" "Just eating and feeding Mateo but I can still talk." "Okay." She then went back to mixing her ingredients. "So what are you up to?" Leilani adjusted the camera while holding onto Mateo's head. "I'm making Micah a chocolate cake for tomorrow!" "Oh nice, is it his birthday?" "No, just to cheer him up because I think he was upset today." "Aw, that's nice, can you make me one too?" "No," she smirked and started laughing while she mixed cocoa powder in. When she finished making the cake, she placed it in the fridge, ready for her dear Micah tomorrow.
