He probably didn’t have to hurt anybody, not if he didn’t really want to: as smart as he was, if he’d applied himself, there were any number of possible solutions to the problem that he’d recognized that he might have employed instead. There just had to be a better way for him to get what he said he wanted that didn’t involve starting a war that would probably end up killing…well, more people than I could even begin to count, for a start.
