As she left the study, Ethan couldn’t shake the feeling of familiarity with the mole on Ella’s ear. However, he quickly dismissed the thought, convincing himself it was just a coincidence.
And besides, she was raised in the orphanage, he thought, attempting to push aside the feeling of familiarity.
Ethan shook his head, trying to dispel the thought. He had more pressing matters to attend to than dwelling on fleeting resemblances.
With a sigh, he returned to his desk, burying himself in his work once again. Meanwhile, Ella made her way back to her room, her mind
swirling with the events of the day and the daunting list of rules Ethan had laid out for her.
A maid knocked on the door, informing her it was time for breakfast. Remembering Justin’s rules, Ella nodded in acknowledgment, grateful for the reminder. She swiftly freshened up,
washing away the traces of sleep and anxiety that clung to her skin. Glancing at her reflection in the mirror, she felt a pang of sadness at her weary appearance.
Nevertheless, she took a deep breath, composed herself, and descended the stairs to join the others for breakfast.
As Ella came down the stairs, she heard Justin laughing. This made her feel even worse because she knew he might get in trouble for feeding her.
“Aren’t you coming down?” she heard Justin ask, while Ethan didn’t even glance her way.
She hesitated for a moment, feeling a pang of guilt, but then she remembered Ethan’s strict rules. Reluctantly, she made her way downstairs, trying to push aside her worries about Justin.
As she approached the dining table, Justin kindly adjusted the chair for her, offering a small
gesture of kindness amidst the tension.
“Thank you she whispered
You’re welcome,”Justin replied with a silly smile, trying to lighten the mood.
Seeing that nobody paid attention to her, she started chewing her food quietly.
While Ethan and Justin discussed business matters she didn’t understand.
Suddenly, Ethan interjected, “I heard you fed her last night.”Justin nearly choked on his food, his eyes widening in surprise.
He shot Ella a glance, silently conveying, “I thought this was our secret.
Ella quickly averted her gaze, keeping her head down.
Justin smiled awkwardly, trying to diffuse the tension. Yeah, just a little,” he echoed, his
voice strained.
Ethan’s voice turned colder as he repeated, “A little?” His gaze bore into Justin, expecting an explanation.
Justin’s expression shifted, realizing he was caught in a lie. “Uh, well, you see, I just thought she looked hungry, so I offered her a small snack,” he replied, trying to justify his actions.
Ethan’s eyes narrowed as he studied Justin’s uneasy demeanor. “You thought she looked hungry?” he repeated skeptically.
Justin’s expression hardened as he locked eyes with Ethan. “I’m sorry,” he said firmly, his voice steady. But I couldn’t let her go hungry.” Despite the tension in the room, Justin remained firm, refusing to back down in the face of Ethan’s disapproval.
Ethan’s gaze
lingered on Justin for a moment before he finally relented with a dismissive wave of his
hand. “Fine,” he conceded, though the edge in his voice remained. “But don’t let it happen
again.”
Ethan’s gaze shifted to Ella, his expression cold and impassive. “You,” he said, addressing her directly, “you should know better than to accept food from anyone without my permission. Do you understand?
Ella nodded silently, her eyes downcast, a sense of shame washing over her.
She felt responsible for causing trouble, even though Justin had acted out of kindness.”Good,” Ethan said curtly, his tone final.
Now, let’s finish breakfast we have work to do.
The next minute Ella rose from her seat, she murmured, “Thank you, young master,” her voice barely above a whisper.
With a quick nod to Justin, she turned to leave the dining room, eager to escape the tense atmosphere.
Where do you think you’re going? Ethan asked sternly, halting Ella in her tracks.
Finish your food before you leave he said!
Ella reluctantly returned to her seat, her appetite suddenly diminished. With trembling hands, she picked at her food, feeling Ethan’s eyes boring into her as she ate in silence.
Each bite felt like a struggle, the weight of Ethan’s presence making it difficult to swallow. She couldn’t shake the feeling of being scrutinized, every
movement watched closely. As she forced herself to finish the meal, she couldn’t help but wonder what other challenges awaited her in this imposing mansion.
She felt a sense of depression wash over her as she struggled to choke down the remaining food on her plate. Each bite felt like a heavy burden, and her stomach churned with nausea.
She glanced around the table, hoping for some support or sympathy, but found none. Ethan’s stern gaze remained fixed on her, his expression unyielding. Justin avoided her eyes, pity evident in his eyes.
With a heavy heart, Ella forced herself to finish every last bite, her appetite completely gone. When she finally set down her fork, she felt physically and emotionally drained.
As Ella set down her fork, a heavy silence enveloped the room. Ethan’s expression softened slightly, but his gaze remained unwavering. “You may go now,” he said curtly, gesturing for her to leave the table.
Ella nodded quickly relief flooding through her as she stood up from her chair.
Without a word, she quickly exited the dining room, eager to escape the oppressive atmosphere.
Alone in her room, Ella sank onto her bed, feeling utterly exhausted and defeated.
She couldn’t shake the sense of despair that lingered within her. Tears welled up in her eyes and she struggled to keep it in.
Just then, a knock sounded at her door, interrupting her thoughts. Startled, Ella wiped away her tears and composed herself before calling out, “Come in.” The door opened, revealing
one of the maids standing in the doorway.
“Miss Ella, are you alright?” the maid asked, concern evident in her voice. Ella forced a weak smile, nodding in response. I’m fine, thank you, she replied softly.
The maid hesitated for a moment before speaking again. If you ever need someone to talk to, I’m here for you, she offered kindly before retreating from the room, leaving Ella to ponder her words.
In the dining room, Ethan and Justin shared a rare laugh. Justin told a funny story from their recent trip, and Ethan chuckled along. Their laughter filled the room, making it feel more relaxed.
It was nice to see them enjoying a moment of fun together, especially with all the serious stuff going on.
After finishing their meal, Ethan and Justin headed to the company .
