How do I tell her that I’m a werewolf and she’s my mate? I had always assumed that when I found my mate, that she’d be a wolf too. So a human mate was all new territory. I looked at her as I took a breath.
“Show her. Let me out and show her.” Silas suggests. Are you crazy? I scream at him in my head. We could lose her. She’ll run. “Mate won’t run. We danced around the subject last night.” Silas reasons in my head.
“There’s a few things that I need to tell you. They’re going to be almost unbelievable.” I watch her as she digests that information. She takes another bite of her waffle.
“Are you afraid you’ll scare me away?” She stares directly into my eyes searching for answers. Yes. That’s exactly what I’m afraid of.
“She won’t run. Give mate some credit.” Silas answers in my head.
“Does it have to do with why Mike keeps almost calling you alpha and calling me Luna? You keep calling me Luna too.” I nod my head at her. She’s very intuitive. Nothing will stay hidden from her long.
“Is it a cult thing? Like are you a leader of a cult?” She asks. I do my best to stifle my laughter. But a chuckle slips out.
“I’m not a cult leader.” She visibly relaxes at my answer.
“But you’re a leader of some sort. And I don’t mean like with your job.” She states.
“It might be best if I were to show you.” Maybe Silas is right. “Of course I’m right.” He scolds.
“Show me?” She asks. Her stare is intense.
“Yes. I think I’m going to have to show you. Please don’t run though.” I hoped she would hear my plea and not run.
“What could you show me that would make me run? I know we just met yesterday, but - I just can’t explain it. It’s like there’s this pull to you. I feel like I’m being pulled to you. I want to know more about you and be with you.” She blurts out. I smile as I watch her cheeks start to turn pink as she blushes. “Explain the mate bond.” Silas suggests.
I reach for her hand and hold it in mine.
“That’s the mate bond.” She blinks at me as if she missed my explanation. I feel her squeeze my hand.
“Mate bond?” She repeats. I nod my head at her.
“Like a soul mate?” She tilts her head to the side. She’s still searching for answers.
“The mate bond is destined by the moon goddess. She chooses mates for us.” I try explaining. Her eyes went wide. This is it. This is where she runs. Last night I had thought maybe explaining things to her would be easy. Now I’m just afraid she’ll run.
“Moon goddess? Alpha, Luna? Are you telling me that werewolves are real?” She whispers. I stare at her, unsure of what to say. She stands abruptly and grabs my hand. She’s practically dragging me out of the restaurant. We pass Mike, who has a confused look on his face. Ember sees him and addresses him.
“We’ll be right back.” She smiles brightly at him. Once we are outside, she stops and looks at me.
“Tell me.” She pleads. Her eyes are so wide, it’s hard to tell what emotion is most present. I hold her hand and pull her in the direction of the tree line. Luckily Mike’s restaurant backed into a forest. As we approach the tree line, I look down at her.
“Do you trust me?” I tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear. She nods her head.
“I trust you.” She reaches up on her toes and kisses me. “I told you that she wouldn’t run.” Silas cheers in my head.
“Your eyes just got darker. What is that?” I can hear the wonder in her voice.
“That’s my wolf.” I lean down to her and rest my forehead against hers.
“Can I see?” She asks breathlessly. I stare at her in amazement.
“You want to see me change into my wolf?” She nods eagerly. I kiss the top of her forehead. I take my shirt off and she reaches for it. She tries to hide her eyes as she stares at my chest. I take off my pants and boxers and set them on the ground. I watch as she tries her best not to stare at me as I’m naked. “Oh starlight. You can look.” Silas teases in mind. I take a couple steps away from her.
“Don’t be scared.” I tell her. She nods her head.
“John. You can’t scare me away. Show me please. I want to understand.” Her voice is hoarse. She’s fighting back against her emotions. All I can do is stare at her. She sighs and walks up to me. She takes my face in her hands and leans her forehead against mine.
“I’m not running. You won’t hurt me. I know you won’t. I’m not going to run.” She reassures me. She kisses my cheek and backs up.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath. Here it goes.
“Wait.” Her voice whispers. I open my eyes and stare into hers.
“Does it hurt? When you change? I don’t want to cause you pain.” Her voice was dripping in panic. I walk over to her and envelope her in a hug.
“No my Luna. It doesn’t hurt when I shift into my wolf.” She sighs in relief.
“Does your wolf have a name, or is it John as well?” She asks eagerly. I chuckle at her enthusiasm.
“His name is Silas. He would like to meet his Luna now if that’s alright with you.” I watch as her a huge smile stretches across her face. She nods enthusiastically and steps back.
I close my eyes and let Silas come forward.
