“Why is the high council here”, Mason asks. I shrug my shoulders and continue walking forward.
“ If I may ask what I owe to have you come in my pack unannounced,” I asked as I approached the two gentlemen.
“ The war council has been summoned”, my brother, exchanging looks of shock. The war council was assembled unless. Schooling my features, I lead everyone to my office.
“Now, gentlemen, if I may ask why the war council is summoned,” he asked once everyone was seated.
“What we have feared has begun, the Great War has begun”, the mason and I looked at each other confused.
“What war?” I asked.
“The war that will end all wars, good and evil”, I leaned back, waiting for the Lycan king to finish.
“The angels and demons never involved us in their battle? Why now” I stated.
“Your right, but a child was born into the royal family and this child was a gift from the Gods,” Xander said, looking at the vampire king Marcus nervously. It was the first time I'd seen them sitting together and not fighting. Marcus moves nervously in his seat. I raised my eyebrows at him.
“Stop beating around the bush and tell me what is going on.
"son-" I raised my hand to stop him from continuing.
"I'm not your son, now stop sugarcoating s**t and tell me what on earth is going on," I demanded. Marcus nods his head.
" Your mate is that child," dread filled me. The room felt small. I closed my eyes hoping to control my breathing.
"Liam!" Mason shouted. I held up my hand to show him that I was fine.
" What does that mean," I asked out of breath.
"Son, y'all are star-crossed lovers. You are vampire royalty. Bloodline to the underworld and she is a from the Gods to fight evil, you are the evil that she was created to fight." It felt as if my whole world was coming apart why can't life be easy why can't I find someone I love and be with her without complications?
" Send a message to the rest of the council members telling them that we have an emergency meeting tomorrow", Mason frowned.
" Don't you think it's short notice, Liam?'' Mason said.
"Are you suggesting today because, according to my knowledge, they should've been here yesterday?" I said, getting up.
" Where are you going?" My grandfather Marcus asked as I stood up to leave.
" Going to spend some time with my mate before s**t hits the fan," I said, walking out.
I opened my bedroom door to find Mia sleeping peacefully on the bed. I quietly walk to her and sit on the bed, gently running my hand on her cheek. I didn’t know what cruel joke the moon goddess was playing on us, but I would rather die than lose her.
“Losing her would kill us either way, “ Killeen said. I took a deep breath, memorizing her scent. I scoffed as if I could never forget it.
“What are we going to do when the prince of darkness finds out,” I asked Killeen.
“ The right question is what happens when the time to fight comes and you are sent to kill your mate,” Killeen asked.
“Are you ready to turn your back on the family on your bloodline for her”? a voice roared. I looked up and everything was moving slowly.
“How pitiful the Prince of Darkness in love with a mere demigod, a daughter of a killer and a traitor to her kind” Hate and anger filled me.
“Say another word and your death” I roared out of rage.
“It is sad that you don’t remember what happened. The great Prince Purg and heir to the Throne. It’s a shame how far the monarchy has fallen”? Why did his words anger me? Why do I care about what this person has to say, why do I care, and why does it feel like I'm missing something, something important?
“What are you talking about, you know what I don’t care. What I want to know is what the hell you want here. How did you get in without my man detecting you”. This guy was slowly irritating me and his presence brought unwelcomed unease. I didn’t care if my grandfather was going to be upset about this, but nobody insults my mate and lives to tell the tale. His head slightly turned to acknowledge Marcus as if he had just noticed him.
“ Your still alive old man,” he said, looking at Marcus, I growled in warning.
“ You know this clown Marcus,” I asked my grandfather. The guy snorted.
“You didn’t tell him about me. De Luca, I'm hurt. I mean you did practically raise us.”
” How was that possible? I don’t remember him, nor have I seen his face around the castle.
“Hel I see that you are still doing your master's bidding, something doesn’t change, “ Marcus said unfazed. It was as if he was prepared for this day. I wouldn’t blame him at this point. Nothing can surprise me now.
“ What are you doing here? I know he didn’t send you, Marcus said calmly, too calmly for my liking. It always meant trouble wasn’t too far off.
“I came baring a warning to our young prince over here,” Hel said and a frown crossed Marcus's face.
“Stay away from the demigod princess and let things continue as they should and you will never see us again” Hel warned.
“And if I don’t”, I raised a brow. Hel chucked before answering.
“ Then your father will then be forced to exact his wrath,” Hel said before disappearing into thin air.
The three of us sat quietly as we processed what had just happened.
“So he knows, “ I said, grabbing the whisky and pouring it into my glass.
“But how is it possible”, irritatedly, Marcus took the glass from me.
“What is he talking about Marcuse,” I asked my grandfather.
“And I thought dad was dead, cared to explain why” Marcuse sighed and his face aged.
“We sweat not to tell you, boys, the truth for your safety “Marcus said with a serious face. Yeah right, where have I heard that before? Yes, that is what everyone says when they do something for selfish reasons. Well, it wouldn’t kill to play along.
“Well, you better start talking old man,” he just groaned. I couldn’t help but smile. I know he hates it when I call him that, and he knows how much I hate lies and secrets haha how ironic since I’m also keeping secrets of my own.
“Liam, it’s for your own good”, Marcus pressed on his last statement. I couldn’t help but snort at him.
“Own good my ass, you’re putting us through hell and now you’re telling me that it’s for our good. I grew up before I had to take on responsibilities that weren’t mine to take because it was for my good, “ I said angrily.
“Ohh don’t tell me about that s**t Liam. I didn’t tell you to be a pack leader. I never told you to run around with a bunch of dogs acting like you were some kind of Tarzan. You wanted to be some crime lord I never told you to”, a growl erupted from my chest, warning my grandfather of the beast that rested deep within me.
“Thread carefully, old man, or your next words might just be your last” I warned.
“I think we should take a breather, don’t you agree, Liam,” Mason said. He sounded more like my big brother at that moment than he ever had. His eyes quickly moved to Xavier, hoping that he would help defuse the situation. I’ll humor my big brother for once and be a good little brother after I get what I want.
“I’m not going anywhere till Marcus answers all my questions”, my eyes never leaving Marcus's face. Mason groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose, he pushed his chair and stood up quickly, sending his chair flying to the wall and crashing.
“You are being fucken emotional. I didn’t take anything from you boys I kept you here as part of the agreement with your father,” Marcus said, walking out the door.
