Chapter 11 (Ava’s POV) I could feel the blush creeping up my neck as I took in what Michelle was saying to me. I was slightly embarrassed but, in all honesty, I really wanted to take her up on her offer. Even though I couldn’t feel anything below my waist I knew that my body was reacting to the way Rafe would simply touch me. I could feel not only the sparks from the mate bond but also the heat that would rise from within me whenever we touched or were simply near each other. I looked Michelle in her eyes and smiled nodding my head. “I would love that. Only if it isn’t to awkward for you. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable teaching me things that I would use to pleasure not only myself but also your brother.” “I’m willing to give it a shot. First thing first though. You do know what s*x is right?” I giggled and nodded my head. I wasn’t completely clueless. “I accidently walked in on my brother f*****g one of the girls in the pack on the sofa one night. Thankfully, he was too in the moment to even notice I was there.” Michelle nodded understanding what I meant. It was a relief to be able to open myself up about what I had gone through over the years. Although I wasn’t quite ready to share everything just, yet it was nice to know that I could talk to someone if I needed to and I wouldn’t get into any trouble. “Come on let’s get you ready for dinner.” She said suddenly, pushing herself up from the bed and walking into my closet. She came back out a few minutes later and had what looked like a dress slung over her shoulder and some underwear in her hands. When she got back over to me, she handed me the underwear and then held up the dress. “What do you think?” She asked. The dress was a violet color and looked like it would come down to just above my knees. It had a deep V neckline and was flowy. “I love the color.” “I had hoped you would when I picked it out.” “Purples my favorite color.” “Damn, I did good then.” She said with a laugh. After laying the dress out on the bed she took the panties I was holding out of my hands and instructed me to wrap my arms around her neck just like Rafe had had me do earlier. When I did, she lifted herself up lifting me slightly so she could slide the lacey boyshort panties up my legs. My cheeks heated a little bit because I’d never worn anything so delicate and revealing before but I really thought they were cute, and when Michelle was done putting my panties on me I slipped on the bra while she went to get my chair. When I was finished putting on the lacy bra that matched the panties. I reached over and grabbed the dress sliding it over my head I let the material fall around me. There was no zipper, so I didn’t need to worry about that. Wrapping my arms around Michelle again I held on as tightly as I could so that she could lift me to an awkward standing position letting the rest of the dress fall into place. Turning she walked forward kind of shuffling my legs backwards until she was able to lower herself thus lowering me into my chair. “There, that wasn’t so hard.” She said with a triumphant smile on her face. I had to chuckle at that and shook my head confirming that it wasn’t hard at all. Taking the handles of my chair Michelle wheeled me into the bathroom. When we were inside, she stopped by the vanity and began rummaging through cabinets and drawers pulling out what looked like makeup and a hair straightener. “Michelle, what are you doing?” She glanced at me briefly before continuing what she was doing. “I’m going to do your hair and makeup.” “Umm, is that really necessary? I’ve never used makeup, and the most I’ve done to my hair is braid it.” “Just trust me Ava.” After about thirty minutes of letting Michelle have her way with me she finally stepped back, c****d her head to the side and said, “Finished.” “It’s about time.” I heard from behind me. Turning my head around as far as I could I saw Rafe standing there in a pair of dark blue jeans and a plain black V-neck T-shirt that seemed to fit him like a second skin. When he saw my face though he sucked in a deep breath and let his eyes travel up and down my body taking in the sight of me. “You look absolutely gorgeous little one.” He finally said when he released the breath, Slightly confused I glanced back at Michelle and gave her a questioning look. With a chuckle she just nods and turns my chair around to where I could see myself in a full-length mirror I hadn’t noticed was in the bathroom by the door. When I looked at my reflection, I had to do a double take there was no way that the beautiful girl in the reflection was me, because she was stunning. But it was me. Michelle had used the straightener to curl my hair slightly at the ends and did my makeup with light colors to look more natural. I was in shock. “That can’t be me.” I kept staring at my reflection until Rafe kneeled in front of me breaking me out of my trance, “It is you little one. You are so beautiful.” I started to tear up a little, but quickly reeled the tears back in not wanting to ruin Michelle’s handy work. When I got my emotions back under control, Michelle double checked my makeup to make sure nothing was ruined and then Rafe wheeled me out of the bathroom and bedroom taking me down the hall towards the elevator. On the elevator I started to fidget with the hem of my skirt. I was nervous about meeting his family. My nerves started to lessen when we headed towards the kitchen instead of the dining room though. “Where are we going?” I asked. “My parents didn’t want to overwhelm you, so they suggested that we have a laid-back dinner in the kitchen rather than an overly fussy dinner in the dining room.” “That’s nice.” I said with a smile. As we entered the kitchen, I saw a man and woman I hadn’t seen before so I could only assume that it was Rafe’s and Michelle’s parents. They were sitting down at the table Rafe and I had eaten lunch at earlier talking with Darek and Matt. I saw something out of the corner of my eye and looked to see it was Michelle walking past me towards the group. When Michelle reached them, I heard her say “Mom, Dad you aren’t tormenting Darek are you?” “They’ve only been asking the same question they ask at least once a week.” Darek replied with a small smile, but I could tell there was sadness in his eyes. Michelle sighed, “Can you guys please give it a rest it’ll happen whenever the Moon Goddess decides not before.” Confused I lifted my head to look back at Rafe. When he looked down at me, he saw the question in my eyes. Stopping the chair, he leaned down and whispered in my ear, “Mom and Dad are always asking Them when they are going to make them grandparents. It’s been three years since they Mated.” “Oh.” Looking back at the group in front of me I could understand now why Darek had a sad look in his eyes. Then another thought hit me. Looking back up at Rafe I motioned for him to come closer again. “How have they only been mated for three years? I thought Michelle was older than you and Darek is only a year younger than you.” Rafe chuckled. “Michelle hadn’t been home since she left to go to college, she was so busy trying to make the grades so she could go to Medical school. Then when she did get into Medical School, she would panic any time coming out to visit was mentioned so my parents and I always went out to visit her.” “That makes more sense.” Looking forward again, I noticed that the woman was staring at me, tears starting to form in her eyes. I instantly felt self-conscious what if she doesn’t actually like me and only said the daughter-in-law comment because it hadn’t sunk in yet that her son’s Mate was a cripple. Starting to get nervous again I fidgeted with the hem of my dress again and lowered my head, so I wasn’t staring back. My head snapped up though when I heard a chair being pushed back quickly, I saw the woman getting up and then she was in front of me kneeling so that we were eye level. I sucked in a breath closing my eyes and tried not to flinch away when her hand went towards my cheek. Instantly though I relaxed when she cupped my cheek. Opening my eyes, I saw her tears were falling heavier. “Ava.” She whispered. I nodded unsure of what I should say. With a smile she took her hand back and wiped away her tears. “You’re so beautiful sweetie. My name is Abigail, you can call me mom if you want though.” “It’s nice to meet you Abigail.” Rafe chuckled behind me. “Mom, let me get her to the table then you can get to know each other better.” “Of course!” Getting up she walked back over to the table sitting down beside the man. Rafe placed my chair at the circle table where I’d have enough room to maneuver around if needed. This ended up placing me with the man who I could only assume was Rafe’s father on my right and Rafe on my left. Once everyone was settled a young girl came over and placed a glass of water in front of me. “Thank you.” I said to the girl with a smile. “Now Ava, this is Alastair, Rafe’s father.” Abigail said and motioned to the man next to me as she took a sip from her wine glass. “It’s nice to meet you sir.” I whisper. “It’s nice to meet you too Ava. You have no idea how happy we are to meet you.” I smile looking over at Rafe, he also has a smile on his face. This is nice. I think to myself. Glancing across the table I see Matt sitting there by himself, sure there were people around him but everyone at the table was a couple so I felt bad. “Hi Matt.” I said cheerfully trying to bring him in on the conversation. He looked over at me and smiled. “Hi Ava.” He replied. “How are you feeling today?” I gulped a little not sure how to answer that question, today hasn’t been one of my best days but it also wasn’t as horrible as the day that I threw up on him earlier this week. “I’m good, I haven’t thrown up on anyone.” Trying to make myself feel better about what happened. “Oh sweetie, are you sick?” Abigail asks. “She’s not sick mom, I had to run some tests when she came out of the coma. One of those being a glucose test. The glucose drink didn’t sit well with her stomach and Matt happened to be the one being my acting Nurse that day.” “Oh honey,” Abigail says and looks at me. “I completely understand. Unfortunately, even as werewolf’s we’re susceptible to diabetes. It’s just rare.” I nod. I had heard it was possible just extremely rare. Most of the time if a Were was diagnosed with it that were is typically pregnant. Michelle was just giving me the test since I haven’t seen a doctor my entire life and having just come out of a coma, she wanted to make sure all my numbers were where they needed to be. “I’m guessing you’ve had to drink that god-awful concoction.” I ask. She smiled. “I have, twice.” Then glanced between Michelle and Rafe making my cheeks heat up. After that dinner went smoothly. Rafe’s parents asked me a few questions about myself not pressing whenever I didn’t feel comfortable answering a question about my past, when there was a decent pause in their questions, I asked them, “Were you guys traveling for pleasure or pack business?” “A little of both.” Abigail said. “We were traveling across the country not only visiting our friends from other packs but checking in on those who may need help.” “Yes, we were actually preparing to leave the Red Diamond pack whenever Rafe called us earlier.” Alastair added while taking a bite of his chicken alfredo. “The red diamond packs.” I say thinking about why that sounded so familiar. “Yes, that’s the pack that Alpha Dagon belongs to.” “Oh, I’ve heard of him, he’s supposedly related to the King, isn’t he?” I asked. “Yes, he is, The King is his brother.” Alastair said as if that wasn’t a big deal. “Alpha Dagon and I have been friends since we were thirteen, we met at Alpha camp.” “What’s Alpha camp?” I asked. “It’s a summer camp where future Alpha’s go to train every summer at another pack.” Rafe replied. “So, you did this when you were a kid?” “I did. It helps us prepare for battles that we may face but also helps us learn how to take care of our pack from a different perspective on certain issues.” “That’s kind of cool.” For the rest of the dinner we talk about various things, from the summer training camp, to how Rafe’s parents’ travels went. I learned that his parents have been going across the states stopping at packs that they were either friends with or that were struggling. The packs that are struggling they offered their help and if the pack accepted, they would stay and help them for a while in whatever they were needing the help with. Seeing as their last stop had been at the Red Diamond pack, they were simply there for pleasure and enjoyed the time they spent there being able to relax. I was starting to get a bit sleepy even though it was just barely ten pm. But then thinking on my past I guess my body was still used to years of being in bed by seven thirty. “Ava sweetie, you look tired.” Abigail said after a while. “Rafe why don’t you take Ava back upstairs to her room.” “Oh no, I’m fine.” I tried to say as I failed to stifle a yawn. I saw Rafe get up out of my peripheral, “It’s okay little one, let’s get you ready for bed.” I just sighed and then said my goodbyes to everyone. As Rafe took me back to my room, I thought about the dinner and how much I really liked Rafe’s parents, they didn’t make me feel like I was inferior even though I was currently in a wheelchair. This really helped me settle some of my anxiety I had been feeling about being here. After thinking over everything I realized Rafe was talking to me. Giving my head a slight shake, I looked around and noticed that we were in my room already. “Sorry, did you say something? I spaced out.” “I asked if you wanted me to help you get ready for bed or if you wanted me to have Michelle come in here.”  “You can help me, I can do most of what I need to do by myself, it’s just the dressing and undressing that I really need help with.” “Okay, what were you thinking about little one that had you spacing out?” I blushed slightly, “I was thinking about dinner and how much I like your parents. They really helped settle some of the anxiety I was having about whether people would like me.”  Rafe kneeled in front of me and gently placed his hand on my cheek rubbing it with his thumb, it felt nice, so I leaned my face into his touch. “No one will care that you are in a wheelchair Ava, they will love you for you.” After saying this he took me into the bathroom where I started taking my makeup off. Once I was done taking my makeup off, I brushed my hair and put it in a ponytail, then I started brushing my teeth. When I get done with my nightly routine, I have Rafe help me use the bathroom, and when that’s done, he takes me back out to the bedroom. In there he helps me out of my chair and sets me down at the foot of the bed. I watch as he pulls back the bedcovers and lays a couple pads down that look like puppy pads. I know what they are there for but that doesn’t keep me from being embarrassed at the thought that I can’t control my own bladder and bowels at the moment. When he finishes setting up my bed for me he goes into the closet and comes back out with a long night shirt, walking up to me he says, “I figured this would be easier to remove if you had another accident.” “It’s perfect.” I reply touched that he was thinking about things that could potentially happen. After about ten minutes I’m changed, and he has helped me to lay down in the bed and pulled the covers over me. I watch him as he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a phone handing it to me. I look at him confused. “I meant to give this to you before we went to dinner, I had Matt go and get you one earlier. I’ve already programed some numbers in there for you.” “Thank you.” “You’re welcome little one. This way we don’t have to continue using the Different Alexa’s I have around the house. But if you still want to use that all you have to do is go to the Alexa App, it’ll say sss Alexa. When it pulls up say Alexa like you would using the dot and then say Drop in on Rafe, she’ll ask you which device you want to drop in on, the one in my bedroom is labeled Rafe’s bedroom and the one for my office is labeled Rafe’s office.” “Thank you for this Rafe. It means a lot to know people care about me and my wellbeing.” I say after he finished explaining and showing me what I can do with my new phone. I had to smile at that, I’ve never had a phone before. “You’re welcome little one. And I do care a lot. I want you to feel like you belong here.” He said to me leaning over and brushing a soft kiss on my forehead then he walked out of the room but before he shut the door completely I saw him look back at me and give me a dazzling smile that melted my heart. ------------------ (Rafe’s POV) I was happy that dinner went so well, and that Ava was comfortable with my family. On my way to my room after getting Ava settled down for the night in bed, I stopped by my office to grab a drink and ran into my dad sitting on my couch with a drink in his hand. “Hey Dad, what’s up?” “Just thinking about everything going on.” He said with a sad smile. “I hear you. Tell me how was yours and mom’s visits with the packs?” “It was good, there were three packs this time that we staid and helped with. This time around the Alpha’s of these packs were needing help managing their finances for the pack. Which I was happy to help with.” “And how was your visit with the Red Diamond pack?” I watched as my father smiled big. “They’re doing great. X and Natalia always try to keep themselves busy around this time of year so there were plenty of events set up for your mother to help with, and I went with X every day to the training fields to watch and give my opinion when he asked me to.” “You’ve never explained to me why this time of year always brings them pain.” “They’re firstborn daughter died around this time of year and she was only a couple of months old too.” “Man, that’s ruff, I don’t know that I would be able to go on if I ever lost a child.” “They were heartbroken of course, but they pushed through it. Jameson just turned thirteen while we were there, and we got to watch his first shift. He’s going to be a great Alpha whenever it comes time for X to hand over the reins.” “Wow, I remember Jameson as a chubby little baby that I was scared I was going to break. He’s already thirteen?” Dad chuckled, “Yeah that’s what I said.” With a sigh dad got up. “I’m going to bed.” I only nodded and took a drink from the glass I had in my hand. When I lowered the glass, I noticed that my dad had stopped just before exiting. “Something wrong dad?” “No, just thinking. I really like Ava, and it hurts my heart to hear what she has been through, I think she’ll be good for you as well as you for her. I can already tell that you care about her.” “I do. We haven’t really been able to bond like normal Mates would have by now, but I enjoy spending time with her and being near her.” “Well I wish you both the best and let me know if you need any help with finding out where her family is now.” I nod and watched as he continued out of the room. Once he left, I threw back what was left in my glass and got up heading to bed myself. It’s been a long week and I was exhausted, but in the end everything would be worth it. I had my Mate and she was already my world.
