Chapter 6 (Ava’s POV) “Ava, sweetie. It’s time to wake up.” Annalese whispered gently to me. “Am I healed completely?” “No, you’re still paralyzed but the doctor has been doing everything she can to make sure you can walk again.” “Then why do I need to wake up? I thought the whole point of you putting me in this coma was for me to heal.” “It was but there are some things that need to heal with time. You’re well on your way to being able to walk again. Especially, since the doctor found that stem cell research and started treating you based on that.” It was true, the woman who spoke to me everyday always told me what she was doing even though I was asleep and couldn’t respond. Michelle, I think is what she said her name was. Every time she went to do something that involved moving me or treating me, she would let me know. She sounded so friendly; I couldn’t wait to meet her. “Okay,” I sighed. “I think I’m ready.” “Good girl, just remember I am always here inside of you.” “I know Annalese.” I started to feel weightless again, like I was floating then I slowly started to open my eyes. It was bright in the room, with light shining in from the window. Looking around, I noticed I was still in the same room I was in when I first got here the night that Marcus attacked me. I tried to turn my head to look out the window when I felt something against my face, feeling a little panicked I reached up to feel what It was and remembered that this must have been the breathing tube that Michelle had talked about as she was hooking me up to it. The panic feeling started to vanish but picked up again when I realized that it felt like I was choking because of the tube. Right as I was about to pull it out myself, I heard someone come in the door. “No sweetie, don’t do that.” I looked over and saw a stunning woman walking over to me. She had long curly brown hair and hazel eyes. She was on the shorter side; from my guess she was about 5’2 maybe a hundred and twenty-five pounds. When she walked over to me, she smiled and said, “Here let me get that out for you. I know it’s uncomfortable.” I nodded and let her do what she needed to do. It took her about 5 minutes to remove the tube from my mouth, as soon as she did, I started coughing, my throat feeling dry. “Water.” I said hoarsely. The woman just smiled and nodded her head walking over to the sink and filling a cup with some water. Walking back over she handed me the cup. I took a healthy swallow from it and then set it down on the bed table next me. “Thank you.” “You are very welcome Ava.” She replied then walked over to a cabinet and started to take some things out. As she was pulling out whatever she was needing she said, “I’m going to take your vitals and draw some blood. When I’m done, I’ll help you take a shower.” When she turned to look at me, I just nodded my head and let her do what she needed to do. “Who are you?” I asked as she started taking some of my vitals. “My name is Michelle, I’m the pack doctor.” “Oh, so you’re who was always talking to me.” I stated. “Yes sweetie. That was me.” “How long have I been in the coma?” “A little over two months, you’ve had us all worried.” I gave her a look of confusion; I wasn’t used to anyone showing me any kind of sympathy or worry. Well except for Drew, he was the only person that came around me that was nice. Everyone else just whispered about me and gave me dirty looks. “Why?” “You’ll know soon. For now, let’s get that shower I promised you.” I nodded and was grateful for all her help as she maneuvered me onto a sling that was attached to some sort of lift. When I was settled in the sling, she pressed a button on a remote she pulled from her pocket and lifted me up and over to a wheelchair. Detaching the sling from the lift she wheeled me into the shower and connected it to another lift. Before she lifted me up with it though she walked into the shower and turned it on letting the water get to temperature. Twenty minutes later Michelle was just helping me to get back into bed when a man that I’d never seen before rushed through the door shouting Michelle’s name, I instantly started to cower and watched him hesitantly. Michelle saw this and glared at the man, “Really Darek?” she said. The man, whose name I guess was Darek, glanced at me and saw my fear and winced. “Sorry.” He mumbled. “What’s wrong Darek?” she questioned, and I saw the worry in her eyes. “There are Rogues at our southern border. I can’t get ahold of Rafe. I need you to stay in here with her and set the room in lockdown mode until I come back.” “Okay.” Michelle said a hard edge lacing her voice. “What about the rest of the hospital?” “Madison is taking care of the rest of the patients along with Sam.” With a nod I watched Michelle kiss him hard then she said, “Be careful.” Darek nodded his head then left the room shutting the door behind him. Turning back to me Michelle took the same remote that she had used for the lift and entered a combination of numbers. As soon as she finished entering the numbers steel shutters quickly came down over the window blocking out the sunlight and a steel door slid from the wall covering up the door to the room. “What’s going on? Who was that?” I asked slightly panicking. Walking back over to me Michelle grabbed my legs and helped me under the covers, as she did this she said, “There are rogues at our southern border. That man was Darek, the Gamma and Warrior head of this pack. He is also, my Mate.” My mouth hung open a little as I realized that she was the Gamma female of this pack not just the doctor, I mean having someone from the top three families being the doctor of the pack wasn’t something new to me since in my pack the Luna was the head doctor. What was more shocking was this woman was the Gamma female and she was treating me with so much respect and no hostility. Chuckling at the look on my face she took out her phone. “What’s wrong?” she asked. “Why are you treating me so kindly, I’m an Omega?” She instantly got mad. And I flinched at the anger I felt radiating off her. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you angry.” I said quickly hanging my head low in submission. Michelle took a deep breath and walked over to me. “You didn’t do anything wrong. You have been here so long that I almost forgot where you came from. You have nothing to fear from me sweetie. It doesn’t matter that you are an Omega, in this pack Omega’s aren’t treated like they are the scum of the earth. Now, I need to try and get ahold of Rafe, he will want to know that you’re awake and what is going on.” ---------------- (Rafe’s POV) “Thank the Goddess that’s over with.” Matt said as we stood to leave the conference room. I nodded my head in agreement. “I agree, is it just me or do these things always seem like they get longer and longer?” I asked while checking my watch, seeing that it was just after six in the evening. I picked up my pace wanting to grab my phone from the check in stand since we weren’t allowed to have any distractions while in the conference room. Normally, the rule didn’t bother me, but with everything going on at home I was a little irritated. I would have asked one of the Elders for a pass but that would mean I would have to tell them what was going on at home and I wasn’t quite ready for that. We were lucky that the few times we had encountered Andrew over the last three days that we were all alone, so I didn’t have to worry about anyone being too nosey. I didn’t hear back from Michelle earlier before we went back into the second half of the meeting, but I let it go, I couldn’t blame them. I wanted to call her back now and hopefully they were finished because I did not need to hear Darek tell me he was balls deep inside my sister again. “No, it’s not just you.” Matt replied to my question as we handed over our tickets to retrieve our phones. When mine was handed to me I looked at it and saw I had over twenty missed calls from Darek and thirty missed calls from Michelle all within the last two hours, dread instantly filled me as I glanced up at Matt. He had the same expression on his face, so I knew he had received the same amount of calls. Without another word we both ran back to my hotel room. As soon as the door clicked shut behind us, I dialed Michelle’s number. “Rafe?” she said as she answered the phone. “What’s wrong?” “Well, do you want the good news or the bad news first?” “Just spit it out Michelle.” I growled. “Okay, Okay. So, the bad news is we have Rogues at our Southern border.” “WHAT!” I shouted. Matt was instantly on alert waiting to hear what was going on. “How long have they been there? Is Ava safe?” “Darek just came to inform me about thirty minutes ago. And Ava is fine I’m with her now and the room is in lockdown mode.” I sighed as a small amount of relief washed over me, at least I knew Ava was safe for the time being. “Matt, start packing we are going home tonight.” Matt just nodded and left the room going to his own to start making arrangements for us to leave tonight and to pack his own things. Once he was out of the room, I took a deep breath and asked Michelle, “And what’s the good news?” “She’s awake.”
