Chapter 18
(Luis’s POV)
It had been two days since I infiltrated Ava’s bedroom and the Blue Moon pack. If I wanted to put my plan into motion, I needed to act fast. According to my spies at Black Diamond, they are preparing for a prominent guest, but they aren’t sure who it is.
Walking into the dungeons, I went to the cell where I have been holding Marcus. “You ready to prove yourself to me dog.” I asked through the window in the cell door.
“f**k you.”
“Ah, I see I still have some obedience to beat into you.”
“You’re going to have to kill me before I do anything more to hurt Ava.”
I stepped back a little from the stench coming through the small window in the door. “That can be arranged.”
“Finally.”
“But first I need you to do something for me.”
“f**k you.” Was the reply I received.
“You really need to get some new comebacks.”
“You aren’t worth the effort.”
Sighing, I stepped back and nodded to one of the guards to open the door. Once it was opened, I used my magic to force Marcus to stay at the back of his cell. “Here’s what’s going to happen. You are going to do as I say. And if you survive, you are free to go. If not, well, at least you won’t be in this cell anymore.”
Marcus just glared at me as he contemplated his options. “What exactly are you wanting me to do?”
“I’m going to release you near the border of the Black Diamond pack. They will most likely take you prisoner. Your job is to see if you can figure out who is coming to the pack on Saturday. Someone is bound to slip up and say something. They never worry that the prisoners will overhear what they say, and typically if they do, they know they usually won’t be alive for long for them to go and blab.”
“So, either way it goes, I am dead. You know damn well Alpha Wolf won’t let me live after what I did to Ava. And if I refuse to help you, you are just going to kill me anyway. Which honestly I’m surprised you haven’t done so already since you killed my father.”
“Your father had served his purpose and regretfully he did a rather shitty job of it. I had no more use for him. You, however, were ignorant and did not know the full meaning of what was going on around you, so therefore, I still had use of you. But yes, refuse me and I will kill you because you will be useless to me.”
“Fine, I’ll do it.”
“That’s great news, but just as an added sense of caution.” I paused and snapped my fingers.
“What the hell did you just do?”
“I made it impossible for you to speak of my plans when asked. Because at this point, I am sure they figured out that you and your father are just puppets in someone else’s show. And I don’t need anyone knowing my plans before I’m ready for them to be know.”
Marcus just glared at me as I walked out of the cell. I smiled to myself, pleased with the way things were playing out. It wouldn’t be long before I set the rest of my plan into motion.
Heading back into my sanctuary, I got to working on the next steps of my plan. Once I knew who was coming to the Black Diamond pack, I would know the steps I would need to take next and any countermeasures that would help.

Three days later, I joined the group heading to Black Diamond with Marcus. When we were about a mile away from the southern border of their territory, we stopped. Piling out of the vehicle, I walked up to Marcus. “This is your chance to prove yourself to me. I am a man of my word. Should you survive, you are free to go, and I will no longer bother you. Just make sure you give me the information I want.”
Stepping back, I nodded to my guards to release his bindings. Once they were off, I stepped forward again and handed him a piece of old parchment paper. “When you know who is coming write the name on this parchment and burn it.”
“How am I supposed to do that if I’m a prisoner?”
“Well, here’s to hoping you find a way to talk your way out of the situation and are able to stay alive.”
Turning back to my men, “I think this is far enough. Leave him and head back to the Sanctuary.”
Walking away, I picture my Sanctuary and transport there. Walking to the top of the Dias, taking a seat smiling at the motions set in place for my plan to finally begin.

(Marcus POV)
I stood there watching Louis’s followers pile back into their vehicles. Not even giving me a second glance. The few that did look back at me gave me a look that clearly said, “Better you than me.” Which I understood all too well.
I had just been dropped off three miles from the border of the pack who’s Alpha, most likely wanted me dead. I knew Ava was meant to be his mate by marriage, but thinking back to the night I had lost my head and attacked her, I had a feeling that she was his mate in truth. I had never felt such blind rage from another wolf than the rage I felt pouring out of him.
With a sigh of resignation, I started walking in the direction I figured would take me to the border based on the maps of the area I had been shown before arriving. Better get my death over sooner rather than later.
As I walked, I couldn’t help but think about all the times I had treated Ava so harshly, and my father had just sat back and watched. He knew what was really going on but hadn’t felt the need to clue me in.
I had legitimately thought my parents had wanted another child, especially a daughter. But now I would never know if that had been the truth or if it was all part of the story as to why they had “adopted” Ava. It wouldn’t mean much to the people whose territory I was currently headed towards, that I regretted everything I had ever done to Ava. I was never given a reason to not hate her, and because of that we hadn’t been able to have an actual sibling relationship.
Thinking back on it now as I walked, I had only ever been told that Ava wasn’t worth our love and we had to make sure she knew that, and to also make her think that no one else could love her either. I knew I had succeeded in making her think that. She was so scared of her own shadow that I wasn’t sure if given the option she would even let me tell her what had happened and apologize to her for all the pain I had caused her over the years.
Stopping, I looked around to see which way I should go and realized I had walked farther than I thought. Was I ready for this? Was I ready to die? Sighing again, I started to walk again when I heard growls coming from my right. Turning to look, I was greeted by the appearance of four wolves.
Not wanting to fight, I simply kneeled and interlocked my hands behind my head. “I wish to speak to Alpha Black.”
The wolves circled me, and I heard at least one of them shifting before they said, “Don’t worry, you will get your chance to speak with him as he kills you for what you have done to our Luna.”
The next thing that happened didn’t surprise me, but it still left me disoriented as they threw a sack over my head and restrained my hands behind my back.
I obediently walked in the direction that the man led me in. With all the sincerity I could muster, I sent a prayer to the goddess hoping she would still listen to my pleas after everything I had done, to let me live long enough to figure out a way to tell Alpha Black what I needed to say. But with the curse, I wasn’t sure how I would manage. I just knew that I needed to find a way. And hopefully it would be before I died.
