Elena POV
I stumbled back several steps, only stopping when I felt the hard length of the bench behind my knees, “what?”
He immediately took a step towards me, his face filled with regret, “I didn’t mean that.”
I raised a hand to stop him in his steps, “I think we both need some time to cool off…”
“Yes,” he immediately agreed, letting out a sigh of relief, his fisted hands unclenching, “I’ve got tickets to a movie. I’ve rented out the whole place so it’ll be quiet, we could—“
“Alone,” I looked him directly in the eye, my voice ringing out with finality.
He stiffened, then took a step back, “of course, anything you need.”
I walked out of the garden alone, with my head held high and at least a million little holes in the place where my heart used to be.
