Elena POV
The door slammed open and a loud gasp sounded from behind me as the nurse we’d seen earlier hurried to the children and immediately started comforting them.
The other two were easy to coax and they soon went back to sleep, but Ben kept crying. It took several minutes of her softly speaking to him before he finally quietened down a little.
“Maybe you should come back on another day, Luna,” she said helplessly, patting his back as he sobbed on her shoulder, “I don’t think it’s a good time right now.”
I pulled back my outstretched hand and swallowed, “you’re right.”
I tried to smile but it felt wrong on my face, heavy. “Maybe some other time then.”
Nellie walked out the room first and I followed closely behind her, while the guard walked slowly behind me.
