Blood and Vows

The night was as dark as ink, with the thick darkness enveloping the depths of the forest. The flames of the campfire flickered, casting light on the figures of the Wolf clan. Leon stood in the center of the crowd, his calm gaze sweeping over the surroundings, where familiar yet unfamiliar faces met his eyes. Months had passed since he left the clan, and although his wounds had long since healed, the emptiness in his heart had never been filled, especially his longing for Ava, which had only grown deeper. Every night, he secretly thought of the woman who had sheltered him from the storm. Ava’s image had become the warmest memory in his heart. Just as he was lost in his thoughts, a loud, rough shout broke the silence. "Leon, you’re finally back!" The voice was filled with strong emotions. Leon turned his head and saw a tall figure slowly approaching—it was his cousin, Sebastian, a person who had always made him uneasy. Despite their superficial comradely bond, deep animosity had long since been sown between them. "The clan needs you," Sebastian's smile appeared warm, but his eyes gleamed with coldness and deceit. Leon's heart shifted; he sensed something more than just a simple reunion. He had long since detected the scent of a hidden conspiracy behind Sebastian’s actions. Leon knew that the position of Alpha was not something that could be claimed through empty words. Sebastian had always seen him as a threat, attempting to eliminate him from the struggle for the throne by various means. Leon replied, his tone low, carrying an undeniable sense of intimidation, "The position of Alpha is not something you win by talking." Sebastian’s smile faded slightly, and the corners of his mouth twisted into a sly grin. "Of course, we speak with strength," he said, his words laced with provocation. The two locked eyes, the tension in the air palpable. The standoff between them heightened the already tense atmosphere in the clan. It was clear that the battle for the Alpha position had begun, and their rivalry was now unavoidable. Leon’s return quickly earned him the support of many clan members due to his strength and clever strategies. However, Sebastian’s position was now under threat, causing him to become increasingly agitated. To maintain his power, he began spreading rumors both within and outside the clan to tarnish Leon’s reputation. "Did you hear? Leon is involved with a human woman!" "How can a werewolf fraternize with a human? This is an insult to our kind!" "He no longer deserves to be our Alpha!" The rumors spread like wildfire, and many of those who had once supported Leon began to waver. Leon understood that these rumors were part of Sebastian’s plot, and he knew that if he didn’t take action soon, he could lose the clan’s trust, which would have catastrophic consequences. That night, Leon quietly left the clan and ventured deep into the forest alone. He stood beneath an ancient towering tree, gazing up at the bright moon. Ava’s image surfaced in his mind. Although his body had fully recovered over the past few months, his longing for Ava had never faded; it had only grown stronger. "Ava, how have you been?" he whispered softly, his tone filled with affection and endless yearning. Suddenly, a faint sound of footsteps approached from behind. Leon turned sharply and saw a familiar, petite figure standing nearby, her eyes filled with determination. "Ava?" Leon exclaimed in disbelief, almost unable to believe his eyes. Ava wore a black coat, her hair tousled by the wind, but her eyes radiated determination and resolve. Her gaze was different from before, more mature and resilient. "What are you doing here?" Leon hurriedly stepped forward, his tone filled with concern. "This place is dangerous." "I missed you," Ava’s voice was soft, but it trembled slightly. Leon’s heart ached, and he gently pulled her into his embrace. "I missed you too," he whispered, his voice filled with pain and deep affection. The two embraced tightly, as if they were trying to merge their hearts. At that moment, time seemed to stand still, and the world seemed to disappear, leaving only the two of them. However, the peaceful moment did not last long. A loud noise from the distance broke the silence, and Leon’s brow furrowed as a cold sense of alertness swept over him. He knew that trouble had finally arrived. "It’s Sebastian!" Leon whispered, his eyes now sharp as blades. Ava looked at him, her expression filled with fear. "How did they find us?" she asked, her voice trembling. "Don’t worry, I’m here," Leon said firmly, stepping in front of her. Soon, Sebastian appears with a group of werewolves, surrounding the two of them. Sebastian’s smile was cold and sinister, his eyes full of hatred and disdain. "Leon, you really dare to be with a human woman!" His voice was filled with anger. "This is an insult to the Wolf clan!" "Today, I’ll clean up the mess!" Sebastian commanded, and immediately, all the werewolves shifted into their wolf forms, their sharp claws gleaming with cold light, the air thick with the scent of battle. Leon showed no fear. His gaze was firm as he transformed into a massive black wolf, charging into the pack of werewolves. His claws swiped through the air, blood splattering as he struck down one werewolf after another. Despite his fierce fighting, the overwhelming number of werewolves began to wear him down, and injuries started to accumulate on his body. Ava, seeing Leon fighting valiantly, felt a surge of anxiety. She knew she couldn’t be a burden to him and had to act. Searching around, she finally found a thick branch. Without hesitation, she grabbed it and ran toward the werewolves. As one wolf lunged at Leon, Ava swung the branch with all her might, striking the wolf in the head and knocking it down. This act of bravery enraged the pack. More wolves turned toward her, but Ava did not flinch. She swung the branch fiercely, engaging in a violent struggle with the wolves. Seeing Ava’s courageous action, Leon’s heart warmed. He fought with renewed strength, knocking down more wolves. As time passed, the battle grew fiercer, and both Leon and Ava were covered in injuries. Yet, they never gave up, still protecting each other with all their might. Finally, the wolves began to retreat. They were shaken by Leon and Ava’s courage and no longer dared to advance. Sebastian’s face darkened, his anger evident. He had not expected Leon and Ava to be so resilient. "Retreat!" he ordered furiously, and the wolves quickly withdrew, disappearing into the depths of the forest. Leon and Ava collapsed to the ground, panting heavily. Their wounds still burned with pain, but their hearts were filled with relief and joy. "Are you okay?" Leon asked, concerned. "I’m fine," Ava shook her head. "What about you?" "I’m fine too," Leon smiled, though his smile was tinged with bitterness, yet his eyes still held determination. "We need to leave here," Leon stood up, his tone resolute. "Sebastian won’t let us off easily." "Mm," Ava nodded, understanding that the clan was no longer safe. The two helped each other up and slowly walked toward the edge of the forest. Although the road ahead was uncertain, as long as they were together, they feared nothing. As the dawn light gradually illuminated the land, Leon and Ava finally emerged from the shadow of the forest. They looked back, and the darkness still lingered, but in their eyes, there was hope and determination. "Will we come back?" Ava asked softly. "We will," Leon replied firmly. "Once I settle things with the clan, we’ll come back." "I’ll wait for you," Ava smiled, her eyes shining with trust in the future. The two embraced once more, reluctantly bidding farewell. Though separated, they both believed that one day, they would return to this place and find the peace and happiness that belonged to them.
