21On the night of Ah Fong’s wedding, Weng thought the riverfront was the happiest place in the city. The Double Happiness Restaurant was wreathed in festive bridal red. Bright red lanterns and strings of vermillion lights twinkled and glittered in the teacups and wine glasses set out on bright pink tablecloths and red double-happiness paper napkins. Weng looked across the room. He caught his father’s eye and gave his old man the thumbs-up sign.
