Giselle quickly jumped up looking in the direction of where the car had skidded around the corner. She looked back at Skye and knelt by her side. She ran her hands all over her body, checking to see if she were okay; however, it was causing a different reaction. Skye sat up quickly and grabbed her hands.
"I'm fine are you okay?" Skye asked.
"Yes, I’m perfectly fine. That looked like the exact same car that tried to run me off the road when I was on my way here this morning," she gasped.
"Giselle there was a car creeping past your house this evening, also when we left, it was parked at the corner. That is why I asked if you had any deranged ex-boyfriends," Skye said as she watched Giselle pace back and forth.
"Strange things have been happening since I bought the building for my healing center. I do not know what that has to do with anything, but that’s when things started getting all loopy. Oh, good golly, mama will be a nervous wreck once I tell her."
Skye stood there watching as she paced back and forth. “Why don’t we go ahead and get out of here, I had planned on hitting a few more spots but I don’t think it’s a great idea when you have a stalker on the loose.”
She stopped pacing and looked up at Skye. “Well why should we go, you have already said they were outside of my house, so that’s not a very safe place either. Besides money and an id isn’t the only thing in my purse, now where to next?” Giselle said as she grabbed Skye’ arm pulling her towards the curb.
This little woman was something else, Skye prayed that the only other thing in her purse was mace but judging by the size she could have easily had a whole arsenal in there. They enjoyed a few more bars over the next few hours, and luckily there was no sign of any creeping cars or stalking individuals. Skye did not understand why after knowing this woman for just a short period of time, that she felt a need to protect her. She was more than cautious the rest of the night, even foregoing the Hennessey and drinking soda. By the time they made it back to their homes it was close to four o’clock in the morning. Skye checked out around Giselle’ house before she let her open the door. Once it was open Skye went inside and checked around to make sure no one was inside while making Giselle stand in the doorway. “It’s all clear. Have you thought about getting an alarm system put in?”
“Why yes, I did as a matter a fact. They will be here Monday to install it?” She said as she closed the door. Skye instantly saw the metal bat behind the door that she had not noticed earlier.
“Do you think you will be okay tonight?” Skye asked as she headed towards the door.
She giggled as she turned on the television. “Well if you’re going to be paranoid about it, why don’t you stay the night? The bed isn’t up in the guest room, but you could have the couch.” She said plopping down on the couch with the remote.
Skye thought it over in her head for a few minutes. I guess it would not hurt any if I did stay, she thought to herself. “Actually yes, I could go ahead and do that. Let me run home and change and I will be back. I’ll knock three times when I get back.” Skye said as she went to unlock the door.
Giselle got up and grabbed her purse, tossing Skye her keys. “Just unlock it yourself. I’ll make us a snack while you’re gone.”
Skye stood there wide eyed as Giselle’ keys sat in her hand. She was really going to have to work on Giselle easily trusting people. Skye walked out of the door and locked it behind her. She looked around and spotted nothing out of the ordinary. Once inside of her own home, she quickly showered and changed into a t-shirt and some basketball shorts. Skye grabbed her gym bag and slid her 9mm into it. She would rather be safe than sorry, and she honestly could not stand the thought of something happening to Giselle. Skye set her alarm and locked her door. Just as and she was about to head down the steps she saw a car creeping up the street without any headlights. Squatting down where the driver could not see her, she positioned herself where she could get a good look at the license plates from the porch when they drove by. She was not surprised when it rolled by and all that it had were temp tags on the back. She memorized the numbers and waited until it turned the corner before she made her way back to Giselle’ house. She unlocked the door and walked in just as she was bringing a platter out of the kitchen on a tray with two tall glasses of milk. Giselle stopped when she saw Skye, her smile falling away from face. “You saw the car, again didn’t you?” She asked as she sat the tray down on the table.
“Yes, I did, and it has temporary tags on it. I am going to check and see what I can find out when I get to work Monday and see who the car belongs too. But for now, we are going to be cautious, I will stay the night tonight and tomorrow night. Monday after work I am going down to the hardware store, I know someone that works there. We’re going to put some extra locks on the doors and especially that back sliding door.” Skye said as she sat her bag down carefully in front of the couch. Giselle started to pace again, running her fingers through her hair. Skye sat down on the couch to see that she had made them. When she looked, she saw that there was S’mores on the tray, hence the reason for the milk. “Why don’t you come sit down so that we can enjoy the snack you made us, which just so happens to be my favorite snack from my childhood.”
Giselle whipped around with a smile. “Seriously, I love them too. My daddy used to make them for me all of the time.” She said as she came and sat down on the couch. Grabbing a napkin and a s’more she handed Skye one and then grabbed one for herself. As she leaned back into the couch Skye grabbed the remote and turned on Family Guy. They laughed and joked and enjoyed each other’s company until Giselle fell asleep curled up on the couch. She had brought down a pillow and a blanket which Skye used to cover her with. She got up and walked through the house checking the windows, once she got into the kitchen, she realized just how unsafe her sliding door was. The lock could easily be picked. This was something that would need to be changed before Skye could be comfortable knowing that she was safe. As Skye walked back in the living room, Giselle sighed and rolled over still deep in her sleep. Grabbing the pillow Skye made herself comfortable in the recliner and within minutes she was knocked out.
Skye awakened the next morning to the smell of bacon, and after realizing it was not a dream her eyes popped open. She was on the recliner covered with a blanket and next to her on the couch sat a tray with a delicious looking breakfast on it. Skye vaguely heard the shower running upstairs. Giselle had made bacon, eggs, grits, hash browns, sausage and toast. There was a glass of orange juice sitting on the table. Skye smiled and then quickly shook it off. This was not something that she should get used to. But at this moment she was going to enjoy this breakfast. By the time Giselle came downstairs, Skye was in the kitchen washing her dish off. The rest of the dishes had already been done by Giselle and by hand even though she had a dishwasher.
She walked in smiling brightly. “Good morning Skye! How did you sleep?” She asked as she grabbed a yogurt out of the refrigerator and sat down at the breakfast bar and grabbed a banana. “Could you hand me a spoon please?”
Skye reached into the dish drain and handed her a spoon. “Thank you for the breakfast I really do appreciate it. Is that all that you’re eating this morning?” She asked as Giselle munched on her banana.
“I had some toast and egg whites while I was making your breakfast. I grew up on a farm, but meat was never one of the delicacies I enjoyed. I’m a vegetarian, never quite made it to become a vegan but I feel healthier this way.” She said as she finished her banana and opened her yogurt.
Skye chuckled that is something that she did not see coming. “Well for someone that doesn’t eat meat you cook a fine meat filled breakfast ma’am.” Skye drawled in her best southern voice. Giselle burst into a fit of giggles until tears streamed down her face. Her laugh was very intoxicating; Skye cleared her throat as her body started to throb.
