It seemed like a lifetime ago but here they are, back at the campus where they used to work. There’s this eerie presence engulfing the area pulling them down into the earth. Or was it jet lag, Leroy thought. Piatt stretched out his legs, when they got out. He limbered up for quite a few minutes, it looked awkward. It seems Piatt isn’t used to long trips, Leroy thought to himself.
It was almost time for lunch, as if the two already didn’t knew thanks to jack’s repeated excitement for getting his favorite burger. During the last stretch of the trip, all he could talk about is his damn burgers. Juicy patties, fresh crisp veggies and fluffy amber buns, despite Jacks enthusiasm and vivid description, almost to a point of listening to his ramblings felt wrong. Similar to the stuff lovers tell each other in the bedroom. Piatt and Leroy, were no where near hungry.
“ Ahh, brings back memories, eh?’ Jacked said, with his hands on his waist, looking at the college gates; with both Piatt and Leroy on either side of him. No one answered him.
“ Well then, let’s go. Can’t keep the boss waiting. The sooner we’re done, the sooner we can get something to eat.” He Laughed, as they went.
There was no one in the campus, not a single soul. Which made the cold winds even more colder and that force that seemed to swallow them into the earth more and more noticeable. Leroy began having flasbacks of the night of the incident, as they past the very corridors; his mind played back the events. He saw himself, scared out of his wits, standing toe-to-toe against Sandra’s brother. He felt shivers down his spine as the vivid images of the bloodied markings on his body flash in his memories. Leroy was trying his best for the past few days to bury this encounter, but it all came crashing before him. He was more than uncomfortable.
He looked at Piatt as they were walking, he could tell that Piatt wasn’t remembering the place so fondly either.
