Chapter 14

303 Words
I’m so fortunate. After dating Orion for two months, I became pregnant. It's time to discuss divorce with Charlie again. After my second visit to the theater to confront Abigail, Charlie called me and harshly criticized me. His exact words were: "Leila, I am so disappointed in you. I think we should spend some time apart so I can seriously consider whether we should continue this marriage." Two months passed, and I had no idea what Charlie had decided. I wanted to meet him to talk, but he wouldn't answer my calls. Desperate, I visited Anna, Charlie’s mother. She always looked down on me; never gave me a kind look regardless of the expensive gifts I brought her. This time, she rolled her eyes at me the moment she saw me. Nonetheless, I didn't care anymore. I grabbed her sleeve and cried: "Please, persuade Charlie. He wants to divorce me. I know my family background can't compete with Abigail's, but I truly love Charlie." Charlie's mother pulled her sleeve from my grasp with a cold face: "Leila, to be honest. I was against your engagement with Charlie from the start. I never agreed to this marriage." I looked at her tearfully. She coldly replied: "You and Charlie are not suitable for each other. I advise you to divorce him obediently." I shook my head: "I want Charlie to tell me personally that he doesn't love me and never has. If he says that, I'll divorce him." So, she called Charlie, asking him to come with his lawyer. Charlie arrived within half an hour. As I was about to speak, Charlie frowned and interrupted: "Leila, I never loved you, I can no longer tolerate your erratic behavior. Please refrain from contacting me again.." Satisfied with his response, I signed the agreement and divorced Charlie.
