Chapter 3

276 Words
Charlie didn’t get home until early the next morning, and he looked pretty upset. As soon as he turned on his phone, his assistant, right-hand man, buddy, buddy’s girlfriend, and even some relatives all texted him, asking him to hurry back home. Could it get more embarrassing? Probably not. Despite my covert pleasure in his predicament, I maintained a facade of concern. Tears brimmed in my eyes as I asked, "Charlie, where were you last night? I was genuinely worried! I hardly slept, just anxiously awaiting your return." Charlie appeared ready to reprimand me, but he held back. Ultimately, he exhaled in exasperation and remarked, “I had an issue at work last night and forgot to inform you. Please don't involve everyone next time and escalate it unnecessarily. It's quite embarrassing!” I showed that I was relieved. I was really worried, and it got me all mixed up. "Have you eaten yet? Let me whip you up some breakfast." He shook his head and said, "I’m going to eat at the office." I grabbed Charlie’s sleeve, "Come on, Charlie, just take a day off, I really miss you." I know how guys can be. If they love you, they see you as a priceless treasure. But if they don’t, the more you try to please them, the more they push you away. Like Charlie right now, his look was icy, full of disdain. But that's fine, I didn't care. Even so, I still put on a pitiful face, "Charlie, please..." Before I finished my words, he was already walking away. Honestly, I was starting to feel a bit nauseous with how I was acting.
