A Second Chance

After school was over, Sadie headed over to her car in the senior parking lot and was about to leave when she heard a voice call out to her from behind. She froze in place. “I know that voice she thought, “I have to go!”. She then quickly got into her car without looking back at who she knew was Anrian, and sped off. Tears started to burn in her eyes as she quickly headed home. “He’ll never see me again.”, she thought. After Sadie got home, she sat in front of her vanity mirror in her bedroom. Her mother was away on business, so she was going to be home alone for a couple of days, which didn’t make her feel any better. She needed someone to talk to who she really trusted, who really knew what happened to her. She sighed as she stared into the mirror. She couldn’t help but think about Anrian with his piercing blue eyes, soft dark hair, his strong arms and warm smile. He is beautiful, she couldn’t deny that but she didn’t know him and since she didn’t know him, she couldn’t trust him. Then again, does she even want to? Does she even want to get to know him or even see again? She knows that she said she wouldn’t ever see him again but she does want to see him again. Sadie shook her head at her confusing thoughts and laid her head down on top of her hands. “Why does he have to be so...gorgeous?”, she said out loud, slightly muffled. Before Sadie knew it, it was pretty late. She had spent most of the night thinking about Anrian and not focusing on the school’s production. She sucked her teeth at her unproductiveness as she changed into her sleepwear. She then got into her bed and slowly fell asleep.           She dreamed of Anrian and her walking through a meadow, laughing and smiling together. He wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his face in her neck, hugging her tightly. She smiled as she held his hands to her waist. It was perfect. He was so gentle and sweet and his warmth comforted her. She felt a joyful tear run down her face as Anrian held her so very close. Suddenly, her mind blanked out and she found herself strapped to a pool table. She panicked as she tried her absolute hardest to rip herself free. She then heard a familiar voice rising out of the darkness. “Sadie...Saaaadie...do you really think you can walk away from me...from what happened?”, the voice sounded. Sadie looked around frantically, trying to find out where the voice was coming from. “You belong to me, baby girl. You are nothing without me...FEAR!!”, the voice screamed as William’s face appeared before her almost instantly. Sadie gasped loudly as he stood over her and touched her between her legs. Sadie winced. “Please...Please stop...I don’t want to hurt like this anymore. I AM more than this. I know it!”, she screamed in a dignified tone. William’s face grimaced deeply as he pulled back away from her. He grunted, pressing his head together at his temples. Sadie noticed his reaction and continued to speak strongly. “I am a good person and I REFUSE to let you torture me any longer...I am so tired of you holding me back. I haven’t been out with my friends...I didn’t sign up for the study abroad opportunity for aspiring directors. I could be in France right now, learning from the best of the best, but no...I let you stop me. But no more. Do you hear me?! I’m taking my life back!” Sadie felt an enormous amount of strength surge up from the depths of her heart. She then broke out of her restraints and grabbed William by his throat. His eyes bulged out of his head as he realized what just happened. Sadie then brought his face closer to hers and said this words, “You don’t own me. You never did and you never will...this is goodbye...forever, William…”. William suddenly disappeared into ash. “It’s over…”, she whispered.            Sadie was awoken by the sound of her phone alarm and quickly sat up. Her breath was heavy and her mind spun with confusion. At the same time, however, she was relieved. She placed her hand on top of her head, staring straight ahead. “Did I just dream that I killed my ex-boyfriend?...No, I killed the fear he had instilled in me...I won.”, Sadie spoke with a smile. She giggled nervously as she slowly stood up from her bed and got ready for school. She chose a pretty blue dress and dolled herself up for the day. She smiled as she twirled in a circle making her dress flare up around her. She sighed slightly as she grabbed her bag and headed out the door. She took her time getting to school, since she was in such a good mood. As she pulled up into the senior parking lot, she quickly put her books into her bag and headed into school. When she walked into her first class, someone bumped into her hard causing her to drop her bag. All of her books and things spilled onto the floor. She quickly fell to her knees and started picking up all of her stuff. She then noticed the presence of someone else picking up her things and started to thank them. “Oh, gosh. Thank you so much. You have no idea how much I appreciate this.”, Sadie trailed off as looked up and saw Anrian staring attentively down at her. Sadie felt a large lump form in her throat as he and her slowly rose up to stand. He cleared his throat as he continued to stare into Sadie’s eyes and she into his. “It’s you.”, he managed to say as he took a step closer to her. Sadie exhaled slowly as she felt her heart pound in her chest. “It’s...you.”, Sadie repeated his words back to him. Anrian smiled brightly as he handed her her pen. Sadie quickly took the pen and nodded politely to Anrian before she awkwardly took her seat. Anrian, turns out, had the same class as her. He decided to take the seat next to her. Sadie avoided looking at him for awhile as the teacher started their lecture.           Sadie tried desperately to not look at Anrian, but he couldn’t stop staring at her. He tilted his head slightly as he looked at her, up and down. She was beautiful and mesmerizing. Her dress fit her just right, she had nice legs, and her face and hair was done up so nice that it gave Anrian butterflies. He sighed deeply as he stared her down again. Sadie could feel his eyes almost penetrate her soul. She had to constantly remind herself to not look over at Anrian, but continue to look forward. She cleared her throat as she bounced her leg nervously. “He’s staring at me, I know it? Just look away from me for just a moment, Anrian. Please.”, Sadie thought. The class continued on awkwardly and monotonously. Sadie pulled her hair back behind her as the school bell rang loudly. She slowly grabbed her bag and looked over at Anrian indirectly. He smiled sweetly at her. Sadie returned an awkward smile as she slowly made her way out of the classroom with Anrian trailing close behind. He finally caught up to her in the hallway and approached her. “Sadie, right?”, he said with his hands on his waist. Sadie clenched her books close to her chest. “Y-Yes, that’s me.”, Sadie stuttered, “Anrian?”. He gave her a big smile. “You remembered me. I’m blushing.”, Anrian laughed. Sadie giggled to herself subtly. “Wanna join me for lunch today? I hear the cafeteria food is pretty bad so I figured we could go to a restaurant instead, my treat.”, Anrian spoke softly.
