Light Against Darkness
The scream of the shadows ripped through the forest like a raging storm.
As Amara stepped forward, the golden light from her arm exploded outward, pushing back the darkness in powerful waves. The shadow that mirrored her let out a piercing cry, its form flickering wildly.
“You can’t deny me!” it hissed.
Amara’s voice quivered, but she held her ground. “You’re a part of me… but you don’t define me.”
Her words seemed to hit a nerve.
The shadow lunged at her—but instead of retreating, Amara reached out.
Kelechi shouted, “Amara! Wetin you dey do?!”
But she didn’t waver.
Her glowing hand made contact with the shadow.
For a heartbeat—everything froze.
Then the darkness shattered like glass.
A blinding flash filled the air, and the shadow let out one last cry before vanishing into thin air. Around them, the other shadows began to fade, retreating toward the broken gate.
Kelechi dropped to his knees, gasping for breath. “I’ve seen a lot… but nothing like this.”
Amara swayed slightly but stayed upright. The light on her arm gradually dimmed, now calmer… more controlled.
The Guardian stepped forward, its glowing eyes fixed on her intently.
“You didn’t fight the darkness,” it said. “You embraced it… and mastered it.”
Amara looked up, still shaken. “Does that mean the test is over?”
The Guardian nodded once.
“The first test is complete.”
Behind it, the gate pulsed again—deeper, heavier.
“But the path ahead is more perilous.”
The wind picked up once more.
And from beyond the gate… something far more sinister began to stir.
