Days flew by, and before Evelyn knew it, the day of the launch event had arrived. She spent the morning getting ready, carefully selecting an outfit that was both stylish and comfortable. She chose a sleek black dress that accentuated her figure and paired it with elegant heels. After applying her makeup, she felt a surge of confidence.
Evelyn met Nomsa at the entrance of the event venue, a chic downtown loft that had been transformed into a glamorous space for the evening.
“Wow, you look stunning, Evelyn!” Nomsa exclaimed, giving her friend a hug.
“Thanks, Nomsa! You look amazing too,” Evelyn replied, admiring Nomsa’s vibrant red dress.
They walked inside, greeted by the buzz of conversation and the clinking of glasses. The room was filled with industry professionals, influencers, and beauty enthusiasts. The atmosphere was electric, with everyone eager to see the new product line.
Hyoen spotted them and made his way over, a welcoming smile on his face. “I’m so glad you both could make it! How are you enjoying the event so far?”
“It’s fantastic! The setup is beautiful,” Nomsa said, looking around in awe.
“Thank you. We put a lot of effort into making this a memorable evening,” Hyoen replied. “Feel free to mingle and try out the products. If you need anything, just let me know.”
As they moved through the crowd, Evelyn and Nomsa sampled various cosmetics and chatted with other guests. Evelyn found herself enjoying the experience more than she had anticipated. She even struck up a conversation with a well-known beauty influencer who shared some valuable tips and insights.
Later in the evening, Hyoen took the stage to introduce the new product line. He spoke passionately about the company’s mission to create inclusive beauty products for all skin tones. The crowd responded with enthusiastic applause.
After the presentation, Hyoen approached Evelyn and Nomsa again. “What did you think of the new products?”
“They’re amazing! I can’t wait to try them out,” Nomsa said excitedly.
“I agree. The foundation shades are impressive,” Evelyn added.
“I’m glad to hear that. We’re always looking for feedback, so please let us know your thoughts after you’ve had a chance to use them,” Hyoen said.
As the event began to wind down, Evelyn and Nomsa decided to take a break on the rooftop terrace. The city lights twinkled below them, creating a magical backdrop.
“This has been such an incredible night,” Evelyn said, leaning against the railing.
“It really has. I’m so glad we came,” Nomsa replied. “And I’m glad you decided to join me. It’s been fun experiencing this together.”
Evelyn smiled. “Me too. It’s been a night full of surprises and new opportunities.”
They stayed on the terrace for a while, enjoying the view and reflecting on the evening. As Evelyn and Nomsa played around with their makeup, Evelyn couldn’t help but notice a hint of sadness in Nomsa’s eyes.
“Hey, Nomsa, how are things with Daniel?” Evelyn asked gently, hoping to lift her friend’s spirits.
Nomsa sighed, her expression turning somber. “We broke up. I caught him cheating.”
Evelyn’s eyes widened in shock. “Oh my gosh, Nomsa! I’m so sorry. I had no idea. Daniel hasn’t been answering my texts or calling back, and now I know why he’s been ignoring me.”
Nomsa nodded, her voice tinged with sadness. “Yeah, it’s been tough, but I’m trying to move on.”
Evelyn reached out and squeezed Nomsa’s hand. “I’m here for you, Nomsa. You deserve so much better.”
Later on, Evelyn’s phone buzzed with a text from Min-jun.
Min-jun: Hey, where are you?
Evelyn: I’m with Nomsa. We’re just hanging out.
Min-jun: Send me your location. I’m coming to fetch you.
Evelyn shared her location, and within minutes, Min-jun texted her that he had arrived. She hugged Nomsa goodbye and headed outside to meet him.
On their way back, Evelyn turned to Min-jun. “My school is about to open, and I have to leave in two days.”
Min-jun glanced at her, a hint of sadness in his eyes. “I’ll drive you to your city. I want to spend as much time with you as possible before you go.”
The last day before her departure, Min-jun decided to cook a special dinner for Evelyn. He prepared steak, asparagus, and mashed potatoes, carefully plating the food and serving it to her. As Evelyn took a bite, she suddenly felt nauseous and rushed to the kitchen zinc, throwing up.
Min-jun followed her, concern etched on his face. “Are you okay, Evelyn?”
Evelyn wiped her mouth and nodded weakly. “Yeah, I think it’s just something I ate.”
Min-jun chuckled softly, trying to lighten the mood. “One would think you’re pregnant.”
Evelyn laughed it off, shaking her head. “How could I be pregnant when I’m on birth control? It’s probably just the side effects from the contraceptives.”
Min-jun wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. “Just take it easy, okay? I don’t want you to feel sick.”
Evelyn leaned into his embrace, feeling grateful for his support. “Thanks, Min-jun. I’ll be fine.”
They spent the rest of the evening cuddled up on the couch, enjoying each other’s company. As the night drew to a close, Evelyn couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions about leaving for school. The morning of Evelyn’s departure arrived, and she felt a mix of excitement and sadness. Min-jun helped her load the luggage into the car, his expression a blend of pride and melancholy.
“Ready to go?” Min-jun asked, trying to keep his tone upbeat.
Evelyn nodded, taking a deep breath. “Yeah, I think so.”
They drove in comfortable silence for a while, the cityscape gradually giving way to the countryside. Evelyn watched the scenery pass by, her thoughts a whirlwind of anticipation and nostalgia.
“Are you nervous about going back to school?” Min-jun asked, breaking the silence.
“A little,” Evelyn admitted. “But I’m also excited. It’s a new semester, and I’m looking forward to seeing what it brings.”
Min-jun reached over and squeezed her hand. “You’ll do great, Evelyn. I believe in you.”
They arrived at Evelyn’s apartment building in the early afternoon. Min-jun helped her carry her bags to her apartment, and they spent some time setting up her space. Once everything was in place, they sat down on her bed, taking a moment to soak it all in.
“I’m going to miss you,” Evelyn said softly, looking into Min-jun’s eyes.
“I’ll miss you too,” Min-jun replied, his voice filled with emotion. “But we’ll make it work. We’ll visit each other as often as we can.”
Evelyn nodded, feeling a lump form in her throat. “Thank you for everything, Min-jun. You’ve been amazing.”
Min-jun pulled her into a tight hug. “You’re amazing too, Evelyn.
They spent a few more minutes together before Min-jun had to leave. Evelyn walked him to his car, their hands intertwined.
“Drive safe,” she said, her voice trembling slightly.
“I will. Take care of yourself, okay?” Min-jun replied, giving her one last kiss.
Evelyn watched as he drove away, feeling a mix of sadness and determination. She knew this was the start of a new journey, and she was ready to embrace it. It was a bright, crisp morning as Evelyn headed to work, feeling a sense of anticipation for the new school term. As she walked down the hallway, she bumped into Mark and Brenda, her colleagues.
“Good morning, Evelyn!” Mark greeted with a smile.
“Morning, Mark. Brenda,” Evelyn replied cheerfully.
“Hey, Evelyn! How was your break?” Brenda asked as they continued walking together.
“It was great, thanks. How about yours?” Evelyn responded.
“Pretty relaxing. We should catch up over coffee,” Brenda suggested.
“Sounds good to me,” Evelyn agreed.
They made their way to the staffroom and grabbed cups of coffee, settling into a comfortable corner.
“So, I was thinking,” Brenda began, “we should plan a getaway to welcome each other back to work. What do you guys think?”
Mark nodded enthusiastically. “That sounds like a fantastic idea. We could all use a little break to entertain ourselves since we couldn't during the winter break.”
Evelyn hesitated for a moment. “I had planned to visit Min-jun this weekend, but I suppose I can rearrange my plans.”
“Great! Let’s see if the others are interested,” Brenda said, already excited about the idea.
As the days passed, Evelyn, Min-jun, and Nomsa stayed in touch daily, sharing updates and keeping each other company through texts and calls. The day of the trip arrived, and the group of teachers set off for the resort.
The resort was charming and authentic, with a cool breeze that made the surroundings even more inviting. They grouped themselves and headed to their designated rooms to put away their luggage. After some time, they all gathered around the hot tub, with some teachers soaking in the warm water while others sat beside it.
Evelyn and Brenda found a shaded spot near the hot tub. As Brenda applied sunscreen, she turned to Evelyn with a relieved smile.
“I’m so glad I’m not on my period right now. I wouldn’t have enjoyed this trip at all if I was,” Brenda said candidly.
Evelyn chuckled. “I know what you mean. It’s always a relief when things work out timing-wise.”
They continued chatting, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and the company of their colleagues. The trip was off to a great start, and Evelyn felt grateful for the chance to bond with her coworkers outside of the usual work environment.
As the evening approached, the group gathered for dinner at the resort’s restaurant, sharing stories and laughter. Evelyn found herself feeling more connected to her colleagues, appreciating the camaraderie that had developed.
Later that night, as she lay in bed, Evelyn texted Min-jun to let him know how the trip was going.
Evelyn: Hey, just wanted to say hi and let you know the trip is going well. I miss you.
Min-jun: Hi! Glad to hear you’re having a good time. I miss you too. Can’t wait to see you soon.
Evelyn smiled at his response, feeling a warm sense of contentment. She knew that despite the distance, their relationship was strong and supportive. With that comforting thought, she drifted off to sleep, ready to enjoy the rest of the getaway.
