Chapter 5

Lucian’s POV Mab crosses over to the Moon Goddess, seeming a little panicked. “I don’t sense Fae Magic, Sel. How did he find this place? The barrier is up, this doesn’t make any sense! How did he…” “Unless…” the Moon Goddess interjects but trails off, looking at me and the hair on my neck sticks up. Her eyebrows shoot open in realization and a coy smile appears on her face. She throws her head into her hand and sighs. “Mab, they’re connected.” The moon goddess throws a pointed look in Mabs direction. I’m seriously confused. “Um…excuse me. Can one of you please explain what’s going on. I-I’m dreaming, right?” I interrupt, only growing more confused. “Oh my, dear I apologize. We get lost in thought sometimes. As you have figured out, I’m Selene, this lovely creature, is Queen Mab.” The Moon Goddess states. I do a double take when I look at the woman introduced to me as Queen Mab. ‘The Fairy Queen.’ Axle reminds me. “The one and only.” Queen Mab responds, and I startle realizing she heard my beast. “I can hear all supernatural creatures. Call it a universal mind link,” She leans in and puts her hand up to her mouth like she’s telling me some secret. “Where am I? Why am I here?” I ask, wanting, no, needing answers. “Oh, that’s simple,” The Moon Goddess begins and then hesitates. “Well, maybe it’s not. I can’t tell you too much about your own future. Rules and all. What I can tell you though, is that you have a… connection to one of Queen Mab’s descendants. She’s one of mine too. You see, she’s a hybrid, the first of her kind. Part Wolf, Part Fae. Because of this connection you share, you are allowed entry to the Fae Realm while you’re in the Dreaming.” Selene explained. “The Dreaming?” “Yes, the dream world.” “What type of connection?” “This kind.” Mab interjects and blows a powder towards me, ending in a devilish smirk. The particles swirl in the air towards me until they’re wrapping around my body. I stare as the dust floats by when the most amazing scent fills my nose. It smells like chocolate with rich undertones of strawberry and honey. Axle slams forward and forces me to inhale deeply. I can feel my canines extend as he hums in contentment. I immediately knew that’s my mates’ scent. “Who is she?” Axle and I both growl out together “That my child, I cannot reveal. I can tell you that she is, currently, without a wolf and well past the age in which she should have been received.” Selene tells me, staring through my soul to gauge my reaction. “I don’t care if she has no wolf. Mate!” Axle pushes forward and takes control. “Axle’s right, her not having a wolf isn’t going to stop me from claiming my mate. I am curious to know why though, is she….?” I trailed off not wanting to really say what I was thinking. If she’s not old enough to get her wolf yet…I don’t know what Axle will do. “No, no. She nears her 21st year and she just…well there has never been a pairing of a wolf and a Fae before.” The Moon Goddess trails off for a moment before her attention snaps back to me. “Anyway, she is without a wolf because it has taken some extra time to infuse her wolf with Fae magic. It has never been done before. For your mate to receive her wolf it must be compatible with her, like how Axle is compatible with you. So, Mab and I have been working together to prepare Maeve.” “Maeve?” The name alone causes Axel to release a deep growl of satisfaction. The Moon Goddess puts her fingers up to her mouth and lets out a loud whistle. She turns towards the tree line and waits for a moment before a smile spread across her face. “It’s okay, come on. You can trust him.” She says, coaxing a brilliant pair of blue eyes from the forest. Slowly, the most beautiful silver wolf emerges from the darkness. Her fur tipped with an electric blue, the same blue glows around her entire form. Her eyes, a beautiful ocean blue color that seem to glow as she comes closer. My feet have a mind of their own as I walk towards the beautiful creature that now stands before me. Her stature, nearly that of my Lycan beast. As I’m looking her over, I notice a black marking on her left shoulder, a crescent moon. Hanging from the bottom point, is a diamond imbedded with a brilliant blue star that seems to glow like tips of her fur, the moon is topped with an elegant looking crown. She lays down before me and I slowly begin to close the distance. She’s beyond breath taking. ‘Mate.’ Axle whines and growls, trying like mad to push forward but I can feel a barrier between us that even I can’t push down. “Don’t need him to lose control right now. Sorry Axle, it’s for your own good. You’ll be with her soon.” The Moon Goddess says from behind us. That seems to calm him just enough for me to return my focus back to Maeve. “She’s… she’s stunning.” I remark, a smile spread across my face. “What pack is she from?” “All in due time, my child.” Selene tells me. I reach my hand out to touch the beautiful she-wolfs fur. I just have to know what she feels like, her fur looks silky and soft. I’m inches away from feeling her when I can’t go any further, like an invisible force is pushing against me. I look back to the Moon Goddess and Queen Mab only for them to look at me sympathetically. “We don’t have much time and I have more you must know. Your mate is not aware of her gifts, she has a good life but has struggled because of her age and lack of wolf. Her family has kept her identity and lineage a secret, and for good reason. She will come into this knowledge in time and when she does, it will be devastating to her. She will need you to help her control her emotions, if she loses control it could cause destruction. Unfortunately, we aren’t completely sure. Her bloodline is blessed on all sides, things could get interesting.” I nod, intent on doing everything I can for my mate. “You must understand that we are not sure how this paring is going to go until she comes into her Fae gifts. Mave will be with her soon, but she won’t be able to shift.” Queen Mab interjects “Wait, why not?” “She’s going to need you. You will see. She will need your strength. It’s time to go back. You’ll find her, and when you do, protect her. You are the only chance she has.” Selene says sadly, just before my world starts to blur. “No, wait. What do you mean I’m her only chance? Why won’t she be able to shift?” I shout as my world starts to blur. I’m plunged back into darkness for a moment before I shoot up from my bed. My heart is racing and my thoughts are going just as fast. I need answers, and I need them now! ‘We need to find mate.’ Axle growls. ‘We will.’ I tell him, jumping out of bed and racing into the bathroom for a shower. We leave today, I’m not waiting until tomorrow. She’s out there, and these pack introductions are exactly how I’m going to find her. I just wish I knew where she was, when I would find her. She needs me. ‘Us.’ ‘Right. Us.’ ‘Get up.’ I link my Beta, stepping into the shower after the water warms. No response. ‘I said, get up!’ I push my aura through the link and I finally feel him stir. ‘We leave in two hours. Get word sent out that we’re adjusting the schedule and get the group ready.’ ‘Dude, it’s 4 am, what is wrong with you?.’ He links back, clearly still tired. ‘Just do it.’ I slam the link shut and finish my shower. It’s time to get this show moving.
