Lucians POV
I caused a scene at Blue Ridge just hours after we arrived. The initial introduction to the Alpha, Beta and Gamma families went well, the tour went well. The pack is set up for success and has one of the highest integration rates of multi-species supernatural’s. The members we met during the tour all seemed happy and secured with their place in the pack. I was impressed, until it came to the end of the tour. As with all other packs, the tour ended at the dungeons.
We were to be inspecting them for prisoner holding cell conditions, interrogation areas and technique review, and current prisoner review. All was going along as normal until we were led down a long corridor until we came upon a solid iron door with a keypad. The alpha punched in a code and opened the door for us to enter.
I was surprised to find a much nicer area of the dungeons; I was expecting this to be the room they used to torture prisoners for information. It’s archaic, yes, but sometimes necessary. The room, however, was built like a private bedroom, with a grand sitting room off to the side. Multiple doors lined the wall to the left, each had a black box to the right and no doorknobs. Another door was situated at the far back of the room with another keypad, and one more open door on the right wall with what seemed to be a luxury bathroom.
One of the warriors I brought with me started to fidget, I noticed from the corner of my eye. Odd behavior for this particular warrior, he’s always been one of my best.
“Al, what’s wrong?”
“I don’t know Alpha. Rex is anxious, very anxious.”
I turn to Alpha Mark and raise an eyebrow.
“What is this room for?”
“Well, your majesty. We thought, since you didn’t have a mate, we could provide some company for you during this stay. This room is connected from that door across the room to a set of stairs that leads to the kitchen of the pack house. That’s the door we will all be leaving through as the door behind us is locked by the security panel on the opposite side. It prevents the prisoners from getting in should there ever be an escape.
You are welcome to use this room for your… pleasure, or the room we have supplied for your stay here. Feel free to take your pick of our entertainment, as many as you would like.” He finishes and my hands ball into fists.
A buzzer sounds and the four doors to the left open. Eight very beautiful she-wolves emerge, all of them look as if they would like to be anywhere but here. None of them are my mate but all of them will be leaving here today and returning to the Royal Pack.
Al immediately started breathing fast and heavily. I take a glance and notice his eyes are locked on one of the eight women standing before me, a petite brunette with honey-colored eyes. Her eyes are also locked on him, but she also looks terrified and… what’s that other emotion on her face. Shame. She’s afraid he’ll reject her.
“Al?”
“Alpha… she’s… she’s my… “he stutters out.
“This filthy rogue is your mate?!” Alpha Mark exclaims, shocked, slightly laughing.
“Don’t talk about her like that!” Al yells ready to charge the Alpha.
He’s not wrong, and I’ll handle this, but he can’t attack the Alpha, royal warrior or not. I stop him with my hands on his shoulders and turn him so that he’s facing me.
“Take her and go home. Send word to Jace and Jules for replacements. Have them meet us at Highland Peak, we won’t be staying at Blue Ridge past tonight.” I say to my warrior and Beta. Shooting a look at the Alpha in disgust.
Al reaches his hands out to her and gives her a gentle smile. I hear a deep intake of breath when she puts her hand in his. In no time, he whisks her out of the room.
“Ladies. Please don’t be afraid. How many of you are from this pack?”
No one raises their hands.
“How many are in need of a pack?”
All the women raise their hands.
“I would like to invite you to stay at the royal pack for the time being. If you prove to not be a threat and can contribute to the pack in some way, you will be welcome to stay. If not, we will help you find a pack you can belong to.”
I see looks of relief on all their faces, and they start to gather any belongings they have down here. One woman carries out a squirming bundle in her arms and I stop her.
“How old?” I ask, almost growling. This she-wolf has a baby!
“T-T-Two months, your highness.” The she-wolf responds looking down.
“The father?”
I…I…” She stutters
“You will both be safe in the royal pack.”
Her eyes met mine for a moment and I can see the happy tears well up in her eyes, the thanks burning behind them, and she turns to join the other women.
“Mathias,” I call another warrior over. “Please bring them to Al, explain the situation, then return to me. They will go back with him and his new mate.” The warrior nods and asks the seven remaining women to follow him.
“You can’t do that!” Alpha Mark shouts. “They were my prisoners!”
“They were your s*x slaves!” I roar, Axle pushing his aura out.
I picked Alpha Mark up by his neck and slammed him against the wall. Axel pushes more of his aura out, forcing everyone but Derek to submit. Alpha Mark struggles to breathe in my grasp, my claws tighten around his neck.
“Alpha.” Derek says from behind, making me release the pathetic worm in front of me and he falls to the ground gasping for breath.
“We will look over the current alliance and decide if it’s still worth keeping with this pack. I will have my decision by morning.” I decreed as I towered over the now cowering Alpha.
“Yes, your majesty.” Alpha Mark whimpers, rubbing his neck and taking deep breaths.
That was two days ago. We arrived at Highland Peak very late last night. We did keep the alliance with Blue Ridge, but I also ordered that one of the pack elders from the Royal council oversee some things for a time. He’ll be arriving at Blue Ridge within the week. It was decided that the trade agreements with their pack were worth keeping.
We just completed the pack introduction and breakfast. I have to make a personal errand while I’m here for my sister so I planned to do it right after our tour of the pack grounds as I’ll have most of the day free after. There is a high-end jeweler a few hours’ drive from this pack. They have a custom-made necklace on hold for my sister. The shop owner will be gone for vacation in two days so I have to pick this up for her today, I promised.
I turn to my Beta as we are waiting for the Highland Peak Beta to finish training before the tour.
“Once we get settled, I have to get back on the road. We’re a few hours out from a jeweler Lacy ordered a piece from, I’ll be gone most of the day with travel.”
“Can’t we do it on the way to Crescent Moon?”
“Unfortunately, the shop will be closed for a few weeks before we leave here, it’s got to be today.”
“Well, I’m coming. I want to get something for Jules.” He replied and I nodded.
The tour goes smoothly, this packs dungeon actually in order, and no one tries to give me a harem of women I neither want nor need.
At the conclusion of the tour, I inform the Highland Pack Beta of the personal errand I wish to get out of the way before the rest of our stay. When I return it will be late, but he ensures that we will be able to begin reviewing the alliance details. We can finalize everything else tomorrow.
He simply nods and leaves Derek and I to our business. Jumping in my car, we threw the address in the GPS and get on the road.
Four hours later, we were finally nearing the mall. An anxious feeling came over me suddenly, as we parked. Axle is alert and pacing in my head.
‘What’s going on?’
‘Something.’ He growls out lowly.
‘You know, I almost miss the sarcastic asshole you normally are. This short, brooding version of you freaks me out.’ I tell my beast. He huffs and crouches in my mind, watching from the background.
The mall is a massive, four-story tall building that spans at least two football fields across and three wide. I’m going to need to find one of those guide maps to figure out where the jeweler is in this place. As we walk through the crowd, I smell all manner of creatures coming and going. It’s rather refreshing that out in the neutral zones you still have the co-existence among species.
I pick up the hint of three distinct packs mixed in with the lone wolves and solo creatures milling about. Finally, Derek and I find a mall map and discover the jeweler we’re looking for is on the third floor in the east wing, close to the women’s clothing boutiques. I guess that makes sense.
Taking the escalator to the third floor, Axle pushes forward again.
‘Go that way,’ He says, pushing me towards a*****e off to the right.
‘No, we need to go to the jeweler.’ I reply, trying to retain control.
‘No, go that way. Now.’ Axle growls as he takes full control and I’m slammed back into my own mind.
“Luc, where are you going.” Derek calls out, following me.
“This way.” Axle growls out.
Dereks’ eyes go wide, realizing who’s in control and jumps in front of us to stop our apparent war path.
“No, Axle. We’re not in our pack. We’re visiting. Royals or not we can’t go on a rampage right now for whatever reason you have and you know this. You need to give Lucian control. Please, no incidents here. It’s a pain in the ass trying to explain your insanity sometimes.”
Axle takes a few deep breaths, glaring at Derek and in an instant I’m slammed back to the forefront as he releases control.
“What the f**k was that man?”
“I have no idea. There was no explanation. He urged me to head towards this store and then took complete control. I had no chance to stop him. As soon as he slammed me back, he locked himself up. Something’s up with him but he won’t talk to me.”
“Could it be your mate? We are close enough, and I smell Crescent Moon wolves.”
“No,” I said, shaking my head. “I would smell her, there’s nothing special here.”
“Are you sure? What if she doesn’t have her wolf yet?” Derek asks.
I nodded, confident in my answer. I turned back towards the jeweler, intent on my original path.
