Callaghan said: 'Probably they would, but I'm not going to try that with them.' Gringall said: 'I see. Well, as a matter of curiosity, I'd like to know how you can get them to stall on the payment of that policy.' Callaghan said: 'You know the only thing I can do.' Gringall thought for a moment; then he said: 'The only other thing you could do would be a suggestion that the beneficiary under the policy was in some way connected with the murder of the Admiral, and was therefore not entitled to make a profit out of a criminal act.' He took his pipe out of his mouth; looked quickly at Callaghan. 'Is that it?' Callaghan said: 'I didn't say I was going to put that up to the Globe & Associated. All I suggested was that they might like to employ me. I might be of use to them.' Gringall said
