I stepped into the shelter, drenched and with my head down.
However, sudden cheers erupted, echoing through the room like a celebration I didn't feel a part of. Before I could register what was happening, Lucy came flying toward me, her arms wrapping tightly around my shoulders.
I'm so glad you made it. She cried, her voice full of genuine joy. Her hug was warm.
Too warm for how cold I felt inside. I wanted to share her happiness, truly, but all I could feel was the ache in my bones and the fire still burning in my lungs.
