CHAPTER TEN Back at the station, the inspectors had already gone into a flurry of activity. When the DCI stepped into the detective squad hall that late morning, everybody had frozen. Nobody expected McNamara that day. They knew that the Chief Inspector would return to work that week, but they hoped to have a little more time to get used to that idea. The DCI always treated all of them justly, but his harshness and high expectations made them loathe his presence sometimes. Once inside the room, McNamara swept the entire room with his over-interested green eyes. To everyone’s surprise, the shadow of a grin touched his lips.
