CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO James stepped inside the conference room with his heart in his throat. It was the first time he was supposed to lead a discussion in there, and a tumult of never-before-felt emotions strangled him. Knowing that McNamara would also be present, watching his every move, and listening to his every comment, brought sweat running along his spine. Bent upon succeeding, the Sergeant squared his jaw and steeled his eyes. He knew that failing in solving that case and managing the people who assisted with that was not an option. The man greeted the occupants of the room with a perfunctory nod, and then he took his seat at the head of the conference table.
