Diera felt Dax place her on a soft mattress, but the movement sent a jolt of pain shooting through her side. She began to sit up, but she felt his hand on her shoulder holding her in place.
“You’re hurt. You need to stay still. I’ll go call Doctor Brooke and tell him you’re awake. He can look at your side.”
Diera looked into his grey-green eyes and could see his worry for her on his face. She shook her head and pushed his hand away. She bit down on her lip and pushed herself into a sitting position.
Dax sat on the edge of the bed with his jaw clenched. She noticed she was back inside his room and his black sheets were pulled back.
“You are forgetting what I can do,” Diera said, gasping for air. The struggle to breathe was due to the cracked ribs and bruising from when she fell.
“Please, Diera, listen to me. Lay back and I’ll go get Doctor Winters,” he pleaded, but he needed to understand that she was not going to sit and wait around for someone else.
“If you want to help, go get me a change of clothes. Leave me for a few minutes. I can heal myself,” she said, placing her hand on his shoulder and slightly pushing him back.
“Go.”
“Ten minutes and that’s it. If you are still in pain, then I am taking you to the hospital,” he said and stormed out of the room, fuming with anger.
Diera watched him leave, but she knew she only had ten minutes to herself, so she had to use every last second of it.
She was still wearing the black dress, but the chains on her back and the fabric on her waist were torn. She pulled the dress up and saw the blackish-blue bruise on her side. She placed her hand on the bruise and bit down on the sheets to prevent herself from screaming out in pain.
She felt the bone healing, and when she could breathe without much pain, she moved on to the bruises left on her neck from when he held her against the wall. She healed most of her cuts and bruises, but she could still feel numbness from the broken rib.
She heard a knock on the door, and Dax walked in. He was carrying a pair of shorts and a black T-shirt.
“I couldn’t really find anything comfortable without going through all of your clothes, so I got some of my old clothes that should fit you,” he said and walked towards her.
He sat back down on the side of his bed and reached forward to caress her cheek. His feather-like touch sent chills through her spine, and she could feel him stiffen when he felt the sparks between them.
He came closer and whispered, “How are you feeling?”
His voice had gotten deeper, and his eyes had lowered to meet her own in an intimate and scandalous way. Diera turned away from his hand, but he caressed her cheek with his thumb.
“Don’t turn away from me,” he said, grabbing her hand in his other hand that rested beside her thigh. “You have no idea how scared and angry I was when I saw that man standing over you. I was torn between killing him for what he did to you and helping you get to safety. Never in my life have I ever felt so helpless than in that moment.”
Only an inch was left between them, and their breaths were mixing in front of their mouths. His alluring scent brought her closer to him and drove her senses wild. All she wanted to do was kiss him and let him ravish her body with his soft touch.
He drew nearer and kissed her on her cheek, trailing light kisses to her ear. His breath was blowing against her earlobe, and her body was burning with want for him.
He had her on a silver platter, and he could do anything to her without her protest. She closed her eyes, welcoming his touch. She was lost in her desire for him.
“I know how much you are drawn to me. Trust me, I feel the same desire and lust for you as you do for me, but I want to give you the choice of choosing your mate. I won’t claim you as mine or make a move on you,” he said and drew back enough for her to look into his eyes.
Diera’s face was flushed from his proximity and from how willing she was to give her body to him a moment ago.
She pulled back and stuttered, failing miserably at acting unaffected by him.
“C-can you step o-outside? I need to c-change.”
He nodded and closed the door behind him.
Diera drew in long breaths to calm her hormones and placed her hands on her cheeks. They were burning hot.
She stood up and slipped out of the dress. She pulled on the shorts and the black shirt Dax had brought in. She folded the dress and placed it on his dresser.
She unwound her hair and let it cascade down her back, looking for a brush to untangle the wayward strands. She pulled a hair tie off her wrist and tied up her hair away from her face.
She heard the door open behind her and saw Dax enter.
He had changed as well. Instead of wearing his black jeans and navy-blue button-down shirt, he was wearing a pair of sweatpants that were hanging dangerously low on his waist and a tight black T-shirt that outlined his perfect chest.
All Diera wanted to do was run her hands over his chest and feel the perfect body that was destined to be hers.
She saw his eyes had darkened with desire, and within a second, he had crossed the room, pinning her against the wall beside his dresser.
His hands were gripping her hips, and her hands found their way to his shoulders.
In a husky voice, he said, “If you keep looking at me like that, I won’t be able to hold up my end of the deal.”
“Then don’t,” Diera said and looked down at his lips.
“Ah, f**k it!”
His lips crashed down on hers and were working their magic, breaking down any restraints she had holding her back. Diera moaned into the kiss and drew him closer with her arms that were now wrapped around his neck.
His lips moved against hers, and soon she found herself kissing him back with the same desperation as he was. He growled and bent down slightly to wrap his hands around her legs.
He pulled her up against him, and she wrapped her legs around his waist, wanting him closer than ever.
“You are mine,” he said between kisses.
He sucked on her lower lip and bit down, demanding access. Diera opened her mouth willingly and felt his skillful tongue against her own. She followed his movement and massaged her own against his.
She felt his chest vibrate with satisfaction, and she tilted her head for better access. He tasted amazing, and she knew there wasn’t anyone else who could make her feel the way he did.
His mouth trailed kisses along her collarbone, and his sinful tongue brought her earlobe into his mouth. He bit down, and she moaned in ecstasy.
She was never touched by a man like this before, so every touch burned a fire in her core that made her want him more.
She brought her hands to his shirt and tried to pull it off him, exposing the chest that she was desperate to touch.
He growled but smiled against her skin and said beside her ear, “Not yet, babe.”
He let go of her legs, and in order to prevent herself from falling, Diera tightened her legs around him and brought him closer to her core. She moaned at the contact, and he grabbed her hands and held them above her head.
He captured her lips in another heated kiss. Her breasts were pressed against his chest, and her entire body was on fire.
She writhed with want in his hold, and she felt one of his hands under her shirt. In a fluid movement, he brought her shirt up to his other hand and threw it across the room.
Without breaking the kiss, he grabbed her hips and laid her down on the bed.
