MARCUS.
His chest still heaved as he sat inside Dominic’s office. He couldn’t shake off what he witnessed in the basement.
He was not a righteous man. He never claimed to be. He couldn’t count the number of people he ordered to kill once he deemed they were no longer needed in this world, or the number of his own people who died while doing the task he assigned to them. They knew what they were getting into when they crossed him or when they decided to work for him.
He usually never interfered with anyone’s private matter, but something within him snapped when he saw him about to strike her.
And no matter how much he controlled himself, he was not able to stop himself from hitting him when he saw the marks on her back.
Even after Cassandra left the corridor, he still demanded an explanation for his act. But he didn’t give any until his Beta came, and together with two of his security, they broke them apart.
He could have walked away, but for some reason, he asked him to proceed to his office to discuss the renewal of his contract on his land.
The moment they stepped in, he began discussing the terms of the contract and the new ideas he had come up with as if nothing had happened. He didn’t even introduce the woman already waiting at his office when they arrived. But he assumed it was his wife.
He continued to yap, but like their meeting yesterday, anything he offered would gain him nothing. He was better off taking the land back and profiting from it in another way. He was no longer interested in letting him use his land for his business.
He just wanted more information on the woman he was hitting in the basement.
He waited for him to stop talking so he could tell him none of his offers were acceptable, when the sound of the door opening caught their attention.
His forehead creased before his gaze turned to look at the intruder, who didn’t know how to knock. One thing he hated the most was being disturbed while in a meeting.
The scowl on his face warped into curiosity as Cassandra stepped in, carrying a tray of hot drinks. She looked more presentable, and she was standing tall as if her body weren’t shaking from all the beating she got earlier. Her face was bare of makeup, and she wore a white shirt that she had tucked into her faded jeans.
“How many times do I have to tell you to knock first?” Dominic snapped at her.
Her hands trembled as color faded in her face, but she tilted her head to look him in the eye. He could tell she was putting on a brave front. “I asked… I asked Rafael… to knock, but… but… but he opened it instead.” She stuttered as she explained.
Who is she to him? Is she his slave? He asked himself as he stared at her, but she didn’t even glance at him.
He was sure she was Natalia’s sister. It had been too long since he last saw her, but he knew those hazel eyes that matched the color of her hair. The combination suited her well. But she looked too different from the innocent girl he met years ago.
He had no idea what happened to her and why she ended up as a slave in this mansion while her sister was living a royal princess’ life. And he wondered if she knew who he was.
“I want her added to the contract.” He found himself saying this, as if he had thought about it.
“I’m sorry, Alpha Marcus, I don’t understand.”
“I’ll take her home with me,” he said as he stood up and began buttoning his coat.
A soft gasp reached his ears before the things in her hands dropped, and the sound of expensive wares breaking and the metal tray clanking against the concrete floor resonated around them.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” She kept mumbling as she knelt to pick up the shattered pieces while her body continued to tremble.
“Imbecile…” He heard Dominic’s wife muttering under her breath. “So stupid!”
“I apologize, Alpha Marcus. But can I make it clear?” Dominic spoke, but he kept his attention on the woman, who had her head hanging low as she knelt and began cleaning the shattered pieces.
“You want to take her as part of the contract? You want my wife in exchange for this deal?”
“Your wife?” He scoffed as his eyes dilated. “I want Cassandra, not your wife!”
“Yes, Cassandra is my wife.”
“She’s your wife?” He repeated before turning his body to face him. “And why the f**k did you send her to my room last night?” He couldn’t help growling at him.
He opened his mouth to speak, but he beat him with another question. “And who is she?” He pointed and diverted his attention to the woman sitting next to him, who was eyeing Cassandra with an evil glare.
“She’s Vivian. I took a second wife because Cassandra could not bear me a child.”
“Refurbish the contract and add her name. Serve her with the divorce papers if you haven’t already. I will come back for her tonight.”
“In exchange for the land, Alpha Marcus. I want to own it, not just rent it.” He stood up and extended his hand to him.
He looked at his hand before glancing at Cassandra. He had no idea if she was worth a whole land, but he found himself taking Dominic’s hand and shaking it. “I’ll draft the contract, but make sure the divorce papers and Cassandra are ready tonight.”
“Yes, Alpha Marcus!” Dominic said excitedly.
“I’ll see you tonight, then,” he said as he walked toward the door.
He was still inside when he heard the hushed tone of his second wife speaking with her. “Do you know how expensive these china wares are? I bought them for Dominic as a gift, and you destroyed them! You are really useless! You deserve to be a slave all your life! I’m glad you’ll be out of here soon!”
He abruptly turned around and caught her with her hand on Cassandra’s hair, pulling it, while the latter suppressed any sound from coming out, despite the pain in her expression.
A growl rumbled in his chest before he roared at her. “Remove your hands from her!”
Everyone jolted in fear, including Cassandra.
Vivian tilted her head and looked at him, but her hand remained stuck in her hair.
His eyes narrowed at her. “I said, remove your f*****g hands off her.” He wasn’t shouting, but his voice was cold and deadly.
She immediately withdrew and stepped back, cowering and hiding behind Dominic.
His eyes followed her movement before sending out a warning to all of them. “Touch her again and I will cancel the contract and kick you out of my land!”
He shouldn’t have left. He shouldn’t have assumed that warning them not to touch her was enough.
Dominic called him earlier and said he had the divorce papers in his hands and was just waiting for Cassandra to sign them. He told him to come at dinnertime so they could all have dinner before they left.
But he didn’t want to wait anymore. He wanted to leave this place.
And he was glad he came earlier.
He entered the house with the contract for the land that he would give him in exchange for Cassandra. The receiving area was empty, but since the front door was open, he walked in without being invited.
He was about to head to his office when he heard a loud sound of a door banging against the wall, followed by the small footsteps of someone running while breathing hard.
He stopped in his tracks with Lennon, his Beta, behind him. It didn’t take long for a small figure to turn from the corner where the hallway to Dominic’s office was.
A growl erupted from his throat when he saw Cassandra running. Her face was wet with tears as she clutched her ripped shirt, almost exposing her chest.
In a few strides, she was already in front of him. Instead of getting out of her way, his arm circled her waist, and he ended up clutching her off the floor, carrying her with one arm on his side.
She dangled from his hold, kicking her feet. “Let me go!” She cried.
“Ssssh…” He murmured calmly as he adjusted her position and ended up carrying her in bridal style, pushing her head onto his chest. It was only then that she raised her gaze, and their eyes locked.
Her lips quivered as more tears trickled down her face. “Alpha…”
“Who did this to you?” He asked in a low, cold voice.
“Cassandra!” Dominic yelled as loud footsteps echoed from the corridor. “Come back here, you f*****g b***h!”
Cassandra gripped his shirt as she pressed her face onto his chest. As much as he wanted to hold her to make her feel secure, he couldn’t stop the anger brewing in his chest.
“Lennon,” he turned around and handed her to his Beta. “Hold her, and do not let her out of your sight.”
“Yes, Alpha.” He replied. It took a while before he was able to remove her hands from his shirt because she didn’t want to let go.
But the moment she was secured in his Beta’s hold, he walked toward the corridor where he knew he would meet Dominic.
He showed up from the corner, and based on his expression, he didn’t expect to see him.
His eyes dilated as a growl reverberated from his chest. His coiled fist swung and hit his jaw. He stumbled backward, and the only reason he didn’t fall to the floor was because his back slammed against the wall.
In two strides, he was already in front of him. He gripped his collar with his left hand before he pulled him closer and gave him two more blows to his face. He heard someone scream, and he was sure it was his second wife.
“What part of my instructions did you not understand when I said never to touch her again?” He growled.
“She’s my wife! I can do anything with her…”
He was not able to finish his words when the back of his right hand hit his jaw, and his head swung to the side.
“Where is the divorce paper?” He asked.
“It is not signed..” He smiled menacingly at him. “And I don’t care anymore if we don’t proceed with the contract. I am not letting Cassandra go!”
He scoffed before letting out a wicked laugh. “Lennon, go to his office and find the divorce papers.”
“You have no right…”
Another blow struck his face, and this time, he hit his eye.
“Aaaah!” He screamed.
“Please stop! Please stop! You can take her! She’s all yours!” Vivian shrieked.
“No! Cassandra is mine!” Dominic growled.
“Lennon!” He roared as he slammed Dominic’s back against the wall.
“Alpha, how about her?” He was sure he meant Cassandra.
“Put her down. And move fast.” He said as he kept slamming Dominic’s body, and blood was already dripping from his mouth.
He turned to where his second wife was standing and pointed at her.
“If you f*****g dare to go near Cassandra, you’ll be receiving half of my wrath.”
She inched back, almost digging herself into the stairs’ railings as she shook her head, her face draining of color.
“Cass,” he called for her.
“Alpha…” She mumbled, but he had no idea where she was because he couldn’t see her.
“Are you okay?” He asked, trying to speak in a calm tone, but it still sounded angry.
“I will make you pay…” Dominic talked again, and it pissed him off that he couldn’t seem to understand he wanted him to shut up.
Instead of punching him, he swung his body around before tossing him with all his might to the far end of the room, and he ended up slamming against the grand piano.
He tried to get up, and he was sure his eyes went to Cassandra. He moved swiftly and went to him, grabbing him before he could run somewhere, and slammed him to the ground, his knee pressing against his chest.
“You have no idea what hit you, do you?” He scoffed, and he heard footsteps approaching.
“Tell me you found it.” He said.
“Yes, Alpha. And it’s signed. I took both copies.” Lennon replied.
“Good. We’ll take both and drop one off at the municipal hall.” He shoved Dominic’s body before he stood up.
“Give me the land contract!” He said as he tried to sit up, while his wife rushed beside him.
He let out a laugh as he adjusted the tie of his shirt before inserting his hands into his pockets. “
“You can’t do that! Give me back Cassandra!”
“She’s mine. And I want your men and your business out of my land in one week.”
“You can’t do that!”
“Watch me! If you don’t move out after a week, I will burn the building and the whole area down. I don’t forgive easily, Dominic. And I certainly don’t forget things.” He spat these words at him before turning around and grabbing the divorce papers from Lennon’s hands to check them.
They both signed it. Good.
“She’s not worth it! I f****d her so much that she’s nothing but a used good!” Dominic continued to spew words with his face turning bright red.
He gave the documents to Lennon before he walked to where Dominic was. Vivian immediately scuttled away as he crouched in front of him.
“Are we talking about the same woman, Dominic? Because I was sure the woman you sent in my room last night, the wife you just divorced, just gave me the best s*x I’ve ever had in my whole life.”
His chest heaved. “You cannot take her away from me… She will always be mine.”
“I just did.” He scoffed as he stood up.
Dominic laughed wickedly, and he swiftly turned around. Only then did he realize Cassandra was nowhere around.
“Where is she?” He asked Lennon.
His Beta’s forehead creased as he looked at him. “I don’t know. I thought you asked her to go somewhere.”
“f**k!” He growled as he hurried out of the house. It was the only direction she could head where he wouldn’t be able to see her.
“Did you see a woman running…” He asked two of his men waiting by the car, and they pointed in the direction of the forest.
He didn’t even wait for them to say what they wanted to say. He was already running in the direction they pointed.
He needed to find her. He didn’t waste his time and energy only for her to slip away. She was his.
