As the carriage rumbled out of the city gates her arms trembled from holding on. If she loosened her grip the axle ground painfully into her back, and she could not slide out without getting her chains close the the gnashing teeth of the wheels. She was trapped until the carriage stopped, or her frail body gave out. She gritted her teeth and held on.
As the stone road turned into a dusty one the carriage come to a halt, gladly she release her grip a little. She heard the door open above her and waited for the occupant to step down.
Suddenly she was yanked from the ankles. Crying out as her back hit the dusty ground she was pulled out from the dark underbelly, and found her self staring up from the dust at a guard the held her. She struggled feebly but he was strong and her strength was spent from the exhausting ride here. She could do nothing but struggle as they pulled her to the side of the carriage.
They dropped her unceremoniously in front of the open door, she scrambled to her knees awkwardly almost overbalanced by her collar. The guards hand hauled her upright and held her there. She looked into the carriage but could see nothing in the black doorway. Quickly she put her head down into a bow.
"So we do have a stowaway. I heard you in the street you know, me and my guards have better ears than old deaf salvers." She heard his boots hit the stairs as he descended, her heart slinking with each step. "Look at me slave girl" He demanded, her heart was in her throat as she lifted her head upwards.
Slowly she lifted her eyes, scanning the length of him. From his shiny black boots on the road, to his immaculate tan pants and and richly embroidered blue vest over a broad chest. His posture screamed royalty though he wore no jewelry of any kind and she saw calluses and small burns on his large hands. Finally her eyes came to rest on his face. He was incredibly handsome with sharp defined features and a firm sneer of a mouth, his lips were full for a man and his tousled blond hair seemed out of place with his crisp attire. As she met his flint grey eyes she saw calculation, and the spark of something else. He smirked down at her.
