Farrah was just as excited to talk as Melia was to listen as the woman led her about the house. Melia had discovered she was only a few years younger than Farrah, how had grown up nearby, had 4 brothers all employed elsewhere in the Wizards house and as much as she scoffed at the Wizards theatric nature, she had a love for all things impractical. As Farrah cooed about the fine fabrics of the drapes and carpets Melia noted the way dust catches on the fringe and how badly embroidery fades in the sunlight. Farrah gaped as the indoor courtyard that bloomed at the center of the house and Melia sighed about how the many moths and lizards that lived in the undergrowth flitted in and out of the house.
But as Farrah led her though a wide-open hall lined with shining hazel wood that overlooked the wide-open plains below, and out to a balcony at the back of the house she couldn’t help but be awestruck.
The house was at the top of a rise she had not noticed being asleep on the ride up. The capital city where she had spent so much of her life was but a hazy shimmering dot in the distance. The expanse was littered with rows of trees or green patches of farm land, but most of the space was long golden-brown grasses that rippled and danced in the playful winds.
She spent so long in the same four walls. She could count on her hands the number of times she had left her masters manor in the last 4 years, and now to look out on so much, to see that city now so far away it struck a deep chord inside her. Breathing in the sweet dusty air she wanted to weep. Her hands clenched tight around the rail and for a moment she was far away. She suddenly came back to herself, her hair coming loose and whipping her in the face as Farrah grabbed her arm in worry.
"Im fine." She said more harshly than she meant, Farrah raised an eyebrow and joined her at the rail.
"Have you ever been there?" Asked Farrah as she stared at the smudge of the capital causing Melia to whip her head to face in surprise. "What?" Farrah demanded, "Most of us would ever be allowed though those gates, they don't just let anyone in through the gates - I had wondered if you had been there during your travels?"
"My travels?" Asked Melia softly in surprise, he chest feeling tight.
"That will be all Farrah. You are dismissed, I can continue the tour for our guest." The two girls spun and turned to face the wizard as he strode towards them, Farrah with a frown and Melia with a blank and wide eyed stare. His long legs ate the ground and soon he came to a stop before them. He flicked Farrah an answering frown before she finally bobbed a curtsy and look off with a stiff march and the slightest of eye rolls towards Melia. Melia's eyes followed her as she walked stiffly away, her eyes stayed stuck on the floor around Tristan's feet.
"I'm glad to see you out of those rags of yesterday," Said Tristan, not unkindly. He reached out a hand and Melia jumped as he took her wrist, turning it in his hand. "These look worse than I would have hoped" He said about the ring of angery red scar tissue that circled his
