Chapter Eleven: A Visitor No One Wanted

987 Words
Every step echoed through the executive floor. Mia walked confidently toward the CEO’s office, her hands tucked casually into the pockets of her leather jacket. She didn’t hesitate. She didn’t second-guess herself. She walked in like she belonged there The employees watched in silence as she stopped in front of the large black door that read: CEO – Damien Cross A slow smirk spread across her lips. “So…” “Let’s meet the man who forgot the value of a diamond.” Without waiting for permission… She knocked once. Then pushed the door open. “Hello, Damien.” The office fell silent. Damien slowly looked up from the documents on his desk. The moment their eyes met, his expression darkened. “…Mia.” His voice was calm. Too calm. Eva, who had been sitting comfortably on the sofa beside him, frowned in confusion as she looked between the two of them. “So…” Mia said casually, stepping inside. “Not even a ‘welcome back’? I’m hurt.” Damien closed the file in front of him. “What are you doing here?” “What?” Mia shrugged. “I can’t visit an old friend anymore?” “We were never friends.” She chuckled. “No.” “We weren’t.” “You were my best friend’s husband.” A brief silence settled between them. Mia’s gaze slowly shifted toward Eva. She studied her from head to toe without saying a word. The room became unbearably quiet. Eva frowned. “What?” Mia tilted her head. “So this is the woman you threw away six years of marriage for.” She looked back at Damien. “I have to admit…” “I’m disappointed.” His expression hardened. “Mia.” She ignored him. “You know what’s funny?” “Most people spend their lives trying to upgrade.” “But somehow…” “You managed to do the exact opposite.” Her eyes returned to Eva. “I didn’t know your standards could fall this low.” Eva immediately stood up. “Excuse me?” “I beg your pardon?” A faint smile appeared on Mia’s lips. “Oh…” “So you do know how to speak.” Eva took a step forward. “How dare you insult me?” Mia looked completely unbothered. “I’m simply making an observation.” “You-” “Enough.” Damien’s cold voice cut through the room. Eva stopped speaking immediately. He slowly rose from his chair. The atmosphere changed the moment he stood. He walked around his desk until he was standing only a few feet away from Mia. His sharp grey eyes locked onto hers. “Watch your words.” Mia folded her arms. “Or what?” His jaw clenched. “You’ve crossed the line.” She let out a soft laugh. “No, Damien.” “You crossed it the day you betrayed Isla.” For the first time… Damien had no immediate response. Mia stepped even closer. Her voice dropped to a quiet whisper. “I came here for one reason.” “To make sure you know something.” “You may have broken Isla…” “But you won’t break her twice.” Damien’s expression remained unreadable. “You think you know everything.” “I know enough.” A tense silence filled the room. Then Eva suddenly spoke again. “Who exactly do you think you are?” Mia slowly turned toward her. Her eyes swept across Eva’s face. A smile that never reached her eyes. “You really want to know?” Eva folded her arms. “Yes.” Mia nodded thoughtfully. “Fine.” “I’m the woman who’s going to make your life very uncomfortable.” Eva scoffed. “You’re pathetic.” Mia laughed. “No.” “I just have a very low tolerance for women who proudly build their happiness on someone else’s heartbreak.” Eva’s face flushed with anger. “You-” “And one more thing…” Mia interrupted, her smile never fading. “If I were you…” “I’d stop touching my face so often.” Eva froze. “What?” “It’d be a shame if all that expensive plastic shifted.” Eva opened her mouth… then closed it again. Damien exhaled sharply. “Mia.” “That’s enough.” She looked back at him. “Oh?” “Did I hit a nerve?” His eyes narrowed. “You’ve said what you came to say.” “Now leave.” She smiled. “I was leaving anyway.” As she reached the door, she stopped without turning around. One hand rested on the doorknob. “Oh… and Damien?” She glanced back over her shoulder. “See you at home.” Her expression turned ice-cold. “But next time…” “I won’t be this polite.” The door closed behind her. Silence swallowed the office. Eva turned to Damien, her face still burning with humiliation. “Who is she?” Damien remained standing, staring at the closed door. After a long moment, he finally spoke. “Mia Anderson.” “Isla’s best friend.” “A national karate champion.” “And the daughter of one of the country’s most influential business families.” Eva frowned. “So why didn’t you throw her out?” Damien’s eyes remained fixed on the door. “Because people like Mia…” “…don’t leave quietly.” “And if I handle this the wrong way…” “The consequences won’t stop at this office.” For the first time since Mia walked in… A flicker of concern crossed Damien Cross’s face. Because deep down… He knew Mia hadn’t come here just to exchange insults. She wasn’t here to start a fight. She was here to start a war. And Damien had only just realized it.
