The car ride was quiet except for the sound of the rain calming down against the window. Seraphina leaned her head against the window, her damp hair sticking to her cheek. Her eyes were swollen from crying, her makeup washed away, and yet Nicholas couldn’t stop staring at her. She looked beautiful even in ruin.
It reminded him of that night. The way she clung to him, her voice breaking as she begged him not to leave her. She had been soft, desperate, trembling in his arms. He could still hear her breathless pleas and still feel the way she pressed against him. She probably didn’t even remember it now, but he did. He never forgot.
His hands tightened on the wheel. You were mine first, Seraphina. And whether you know it or not, you still are.
The gates of his villa opened with a quiet buzz. The driveway stretched forward, lined with neat hedges and wet stone that gleamed under the lights. At the center stood a sleek white villa, warm light spilling from tall windows.
Seraphina straightened in her seat, eyes widening. “This is your house?” she asked in disbelief.
Nicholas parked and stepped out, coming around to her side. He opened the door, his lips curving faintly. “My name is Nicholas, but you can call me savior,” he said with a smug smirk on his face.
Her eyes narrowed, and she rolled them at him as she got out of the car. “Arrogant,” she muttered under her breath.
He smirked. “Honest, you mean?”
Inside, Judy hurried to greet them. She stopped when she saw Seraphina in her damp clothes, her gaze flicking quickly at Nicholas. He had never brought home a woman before, but he had called her earlier with instructions to prepare a room for a guest.
“Young Master,” she began, then corrected herself. “Mr. Sterling. I’ll prepare a hot bath right away.” She left hurriedly.
Seraphina turned to him. “Young Master?” she asked in awe. Was this guy like some mega rich loan shark?
Nicholas’s expression didn’t change. “You misheard her.” He replied firmly. “You’ll stay here, till everything dies down.”
Seraphina folded her arms. “Why are you helping me? Do you really expect me to believe you’re doing this for nothing?”
