10 years ago- Matt paused at the front door. He wasn't sure what he expected when he walked in. He put his key in and reluctantly turned the doorknob and walked inside. "I have been waiting for you." Tim said as Matt walked into the living room. There stood his mom, dad and brother all just staring at him. " Well I'm here now, what's up." Matt tried watching his tone because his father already looked uptight today. Tim took in a deep breath and said. "I'm getting married!" Tim exclaimed. "I want to take all of you out to dinner to celebrate." Tim finished. My mom squealed and starting hugging her son. Their father got up an gave his son a proud slap on the back. "You didn't knock her up right? There father joked. "Ha no dad, Taya will be here in about two hours, she had a exam she had to stay for." Tim explained. Then everyone turned and looked at Matt waiting for his congratulations. Matt took a deep breath, he couldn't say what he wanted to say. " Congrats Tim." Matt settled for that instead. "I got homework to do." Matt excused himself. "Be ready at 7 for dinner." His mom demanded. Matt shut his bedroom door and plopped on his bed his face buried in the pillow. He couldn't help but feel sorry Taya she probably had no idea the kind of man she was marrying. Matt got up and dumped out his bag and started on homework. He lost track of time until he heard his phone ping. -no more check engine light?- Matt sat up instantly the text was from Ryder. He felt his heart skip a beat. He ran over a thousand responses in his head he wanted to say something flirty back. -Actually it still is I think I need a refund- Matt stared at the message, just send it he told himself. Then without talking him out of it he hit send. Matt waited then started regretting the message what if Ryder hasn't been flirting with him this whole time and it was just him for-wishing. The ping on his phone snapped him out of his thoughts. -well then what are you doing tomorrow I can make it up to you- "Oh s**t", Matt said outloud. His head started to spin. The guy he had been crushing on since 6th grade was actually flirting with him. -what u have in mind?- Matt hit send. -meet me at Point Creek at 3- Ryder message said. -you got it- Matt replied. Matt laid down on his carpet, was he gonna actually go on some sort of date with Ryder Cruz. He closed his eyes and let his mind go over all the possibilities that they could do. He thought about Ryder lips closing over his, his hand going under shirt... Matt felt his di@k start to get hard. Matt got up an put his homework away and grabbed a nice shirt, and pants. He went into the shower to get ready for dinner that he really wasn't looking forward too. As Matt showered he let his mind drift back to Ryder, the way he looked earlier that day his messy black hair, his body covered in grease, the way his muscular body leaned against his car. Matt grabbed his hard di@k and started pleasing himself thinking about Ryder. "f**k" Matt muttered under his breath as he came in the shower. Matt got dressed and combed his short brown hair. He looked down at his phone and saw a message from Justin. -f**k, why is Tim there?- Matt quickly messaged Justin the run-down about Tim's engagement. Matt also wished he had someone he could share his news about Ryder asking him out. Matt knew in his heart that Jenny and Justin wouldn't care that he like guys. He knew for a fact they would accept and love him regardless. -you still gonna come over?- Justin texted back. -Im not sure- - well you got the code so if u need to stay over- Matt was grateful for Justin and Jenny they always had bed ready for him at a moments notice. Matt came down the stairs and his family was already in the living room talking. Matt recognized Taya who was holding Tim's hand. He only met her once before at their grandpa funeral. "There you are, we were going to just leave without you." Their dad said grumpy. "William." Their mom said grabbing his hand. "No Celine, we told him be ready at 7 its 7:15 goddammit!" William roared. Matt stood there waiting for his father to decide whether he could go or not, Matt hoped for the later. "Get in the damn car!" William demanded after few moments of silence. Everyone immediately did as told they all went out door and William headed about 20 minutes into the next town over. The restaurant was fancy it was the only restaurant his family chose to go to for special occasions. Welcome to Smiths, your usual table Mr. Alder?" The hostess asked. "Of course." William said as if the question was absurd. "Right this way." The hostess politeness never wavered. They all sat down just as the waiter came over and started pouring wine into all the glasses. "To Timothy and Taya, Welcome to the family." William said holding up his glass. Matt sat in silence as the family made pointless chitchat for the next 45 minutes. "So Matthew what has been new with you?" Tim asked. Matt looked up from his plate, not expecting that. The normal for these dinners is the parents and Tim talk, Matt sits there eating expensive food and then everyone goes home and their father retires to study with a bottle of rum. "Not much." Matt replied not sure what to say. " How's soccer?" Tim continuing the conversation. " Good, the same." " I know it must be hard with grandpa not being there this year." Tim said picking up his wine. Matt felt fire in his belly. "Yes." He gritted through his teeth. "Surprise you are even playing this year." Tim eyes danced. "He'd still want me too." Matt challenged. "I mean did you even get time to recover from his death before jumping back into things." Matt didn't reply hoping Tim would shut his mouth. "It's easy to make bad decisions when you recovering from a tragedy." Tim took another drink. "Like not thinking through what you want to do as a career." Just then Matt got it, it was nothing to do with soccer or their grandfather. It was because of Welding school. " And I think you should mind your own f*****g business." Matt hissed. "Matthew enough!" Celine said. "Timothy has a point when you going though a loss your ambitions are lowered." " You got to be f*****g joking." Matt couldn't even believe this well actually he could it was just like his brother to mess with his life. "I think you cornered mom and dad when they were going through such a emotional time asking them about Welding school." Tim coy smiled spread across his face. "It's definitely something we should be talking about again, now that time has passed." Their mom said nodding her in agreement with Tim. Matt got up an tossed his napkin on the table. " Sit your ass back down!" William eyes held a threat. Matt walked out of the restaurant, and slammed his fist into the wall. The pain shot through his hand all the way up to his shoulder. He was pretty he just bruised it. He pulled out his and called Justin to pick him up. Justin pulled out the blow up mattress he keep under his bed for Matt. Matt grabbed the blanket and pillow he keep in the closet. "There all asses." Justin said. "Why would I even be surprised." Matt threw the pillow on his bed. " Tim would have to find one way or another to make you miserable while he's in town." Justin said stating the truth. Matt nodded, he knew his friend was right. He laid down on the mattress staring up at the ceiling. It was early barley 10 but he felt tired all of sudden. " Hey Matt?" Justin called from his bed. "Yeah?" " I broke up with Renee." Matt laughed, "That was quick." "Yeah...so do you think Jenny is serious about that di@kward she's seeing?" Tim questioned. Matt smiled, "No man, I don't think she's serious about him." Matt closed his eyes as he heard Justin whisper "good".
