The gunfight received little attention in the media. As it could not be fully clarified by the authorities and not having been practically spectators, Chilean newspapers only gave a brief summary of the same, and in Argentina it was completely ignored.
Debbie and Matías, upon their return to Buenos Aires, agreed to tell the girl´s relatives a lessened version of what happened, according to which they had just been assaulted by unknown assailants in the mountains. Of course José on his return to Trevelin visited Matías´ parents in Esquel and gave them a slightly more complete version at least to explain his wound.
