5. The Luna and the Alpha

1727 Words
The air was almost thick as Lena slowly made her way into the room. Logan kept his eyes in her direction for some time while donning a crooked and creepy smile. He was sitting on the ground, leaning against the wall. His stubbles had gotten darker and thicker on his face, but besides that he looked exactly like the Logan she had seen only days prior. However, there was a clear presence of something darker on his features, and this darkness made Lena shiver mildly.     “Are you afraid my dear?” His words were pleasant, but something malicious was hidden underneath them. Lena turned her head to look at Kendrick.     “I thought he couldn’t see me?” Kendrick looked a bit surprised as he shook his head.      “He can’t.” Lena was about to answer when she heard a huffed laugh coming from within the cell.      “Lena, sweetheart, we are one. I may not be able to see you, but I know you. I feel you. I am a part of you.” His creepy smile grew just a tad, but it was enough for Lena to sense the underlying message; in some ways, Logan owned part of her and there was nothing to do about it.   Lena took in a deep breath and forced herself to calm down before she pushed forward and walked towards a chair. She moved the chair to the other side of the big glass barrier where Logan was leaning against the wall.     “If you believe that we are one, then it goes both ways, you know? So wouldn’t it be in your best interest to help me?” Logan laughed loudly, and Lena was almost shocked. She had heard Logan laugh before, but never this loud.      “I can almost hear the smirk on your lips, Lena, and though your mask of confidence is admirable, it’s still a mask. You are scared. You won't even let me look into your eyes as we are speaking.” Lena looked at Logan for a while as she considered his words. Is this a trick? Would it have any effect on me if I let him see me? She turned her head to look at Kendrick. He inhaled deeply as he watched Logan before he exhaled and turned his eyes towards Lena.      “It’s up to you. We can remove the coating that prevents him from seeing you by a click of a button.” Lena sat in silence for a while before she gave Kendrick a quick nod. Kendrick then moved towards a panel and pushed a button. Though the glass had no apparent change from Lena’s perspective, she knew it had changed from Logan’s side ‘cause he almost immediately fixed his pupils to look at Lena in a much more intense way.      “That’s better.” The dark blue orbs were zooming in on her and Lena had to use all her focus not to give away the effect it had on her; both the negative effect, but also very much the positive effect.      “You didn’t give me an answer, Logan.” Logan relaxed a bit as the smile on his face fell. However, he still looked totally relaxed as he just looked at her. Then his face turned to look at Kendrick as a dominating and cruel aura almost visibly oozed from him.      “I always considered you more powerful than the other weaklings in this pack, yet now you’re taking orders from a weak, little girl. Pathetic.” Lena furrowed her brows as she turned to look at Kendrick. Kendrick looked collected to the naked eye, but if you watched more carefully, you could tell he was nervous. Logan then turned to look at Lena once more.      “No offence, love.” Logan gave her a wink as he once more put on a creepy smirk. Lena couldn’t help flinching a bit, but she soon recovered.      “I don’t have time for pleasantries. You said you’d speak to me, so speak.” Logan tilted his head a bit as he watched her for a while. He then, without taking his eyes off Lena, nodded towards Kendrick.      “I said I’d only speak to you. I meant alone.” Lena could feel her heartbeat rise as she felt fear go through her.      “No. I’m not dumb enough to get sucked into these games.” Logan snickered as he got up. He slowly walked towards her but stopped when he was two feet away.      “You wanted answers, didn’t you?” Lena knew she was right to have someone in the room with her. Standing close to her fated mate without recognizing him was tormenting and she was genuinely afraid of being left alone with him. However, she had said that they needed to exhaust every possible way of getting information, and she couldn’t back away now.     “Kendrick, wait for me outside.” She kept having eye contact with Logan as she spoke. She could hear Kendrick fidget a bit before he spoke.      “Are you sure, Luna?” Lena gently nodded. She heard Kendrick sigh before she heard footsteps followed by a door opening and closing. The silence grew just as Logan’s smile did.      “Great. Now, what did you ask me again?” Lena swallowed hard before she answered with a raspy voice.      “If we’re connected then it won’t be in your interest to see me dead. By that definition, wouldn’t it be best for you to help me? You know that you are nothing but a tool for the Red Cross Crows, so why would you help them? You seem like you’re still capable of thinking rationally despite everything.” Logan didn’t move as he intensely inspected Lena.      “And what would I get in return?” The question was simple, yet it came as a surprise. Lena hadn’t considered bargaining as a possibility before going to meet Logan.     “I… I don’t know. What do you want?” The fire in Logan’s eyes intensified as he watched her for a couple of seconds.      “I want everything, Lena.” Lena opened her mouth slightly as she tried to find a response. She half thought that Logan would speak before she could come up with anything, but he didn’t. He just waited as she got more and more flustered. It was as if the air was sucked out of her gradually as she just looked at the man that she had so much affection and love for, yet she couldn’t recognize him.      “You’re scaring me, Logan.” She hadn’t meant to say what she had said, but it had been the only thing she could think of. Logan squinted a bit, and Lena almost thought that she saw a glimmer of something tender in him. However, it disappeared as fast as it came as the ominous smirk on Logan’s face reappeared.      “Good. It was about time.” Lena closed her eyes as a single tear forced its way through. She then opened her eyes as she mustered up all her confidence to speak again.      “You are not the Logan I loved. I don’t know you.” Lena was about to walk away when she heard Logan speak.      “You know me just as well as you knew me three days ago. In fact, you know me better now than you did then. I’m not another person, Lena, I’m still the man that you met one spring day a year and a half ago. The only difference is that I used to hide some sides of myself because I knew they would make you run for the hills in fear and I wasn’t interested in that. But they were still there, Lena. The part of me that enjoyed hunting and killing rogues - both men and women, old and young - it still existed. The part of me who relished in the thought of crushing other packs just to have more power and gain more praise was alive behind my exterior. And the part of me who fantasized of f*****g you in a way that would make you scream less of desire and more out of pain has from the first day of meeting you very much filled me with pleasure. There’s only one fundamental difference from the man that you knew three days ago and the man that is standing before you now; shame. I’m finally free of its shackles.” Lena’s breathing was deep. She didn’t even try to hide the horror she felt inside. She tried to encourage herself to forget what Logan had said, to brush it off as an attempt to provoke her into reacting, yet she somehow felt as if there were at least partial truths in his words.       “I think that’s enough for today, my love. You look slightly pale and as if you could need some rest. But do consider what you'll give in return for my help.” Logan got closer as his eyes held Lena at her spot. It was as if the flames of evil that danced in his eyes hypnotized her as he stepped so close that he could have grabbed her had it not been for the glass. He then gave her a sweet smile as he gently spoke.      “Sweet dreams, beautiful.” As if the words released her of her hypnosis, Lena quickly turned on her heels as she almost stormed out of the room. She barely registered the ruckus coming from the cells in which the wolf-like creatures were kept, all she was focusing on was getting out of there as fast as possible. She soon felt the grass beneath her hands as she fell on her knees and threw up on the ground while tears were flowing freely.
