Chapter 3

Indira froze as her grandmother delivered a scathing critique. She had been taught to follow the Matriarch's orders her whole life, who ruled the family with an iron hand and a caustic tongue. Those who didn't pay attention saw firsthand how powerful Matriarch Lochan ' blows might be. "Besides," Eve the Matriarch added, "there's also." Even though he was the son of a Duke, "I don't know what my stupid son was thinking when he readily agreed to the marriage with Madhur." "Most likely to protect her since he was a Duke's son," Easton elaborated. The males are curious about her past and her potential as a direct desc—" "The men, Alpha and Vampire Heads alike, are already wondering about her background and potential as a direct desc—" Matriarch Lochan cut in on Easton and said, "Only vampires would benefit from marriage to Indira ." Her blood has curative powers, and only night creatures would dare drink it. Indira’s heart jumped a beat. Her capacity to do this was a closely guarded family secret. Everyone risked their lives trying to keep a secret and shield the truth. Lochan quietly slipped it into the conversation, and Indira realized she was being used as a pawn in the marriage. From his position next to his son, Easton , Patriarch Levi remarked, "What a special creature she is." "But for once in your life, Matriarch Lochan , when you agreed with your son, you weren't thinking properly." Indira fumbled out a "no." She had some p-prop in her mind. Matriarch Lochan snarled, "You still haven't learned to fix that horrendous habit of yours?" Look what she gave birth to, a babbling fool; to think she died giving birth to something like you..." "That useless mother of yours, I knew my son shouldn't have married someone as skinny as a stick! Indira recoiled in terror, tears welling up in her eyes. She had trouble looking even a few feet ahead. She was simply too scared to try. It was harsh and insensitive to constantly remind her of her mother in this way. She had become accustomed to her grandmother's scathing criticism, though. Indira attempted to suppress a laugh by biting her tongue. She was embarrassed by how often she cried. She gushed like a waterfall when her feelings were hurt. Her father said that it was because she was forbidden to express her feelings as a child, and now that she was an adult, she felt too many of them. Patriarch Levi remarked warily to Matriarch Lochan , "Don't worry, Matriarch Lochan , Indira will soon be under the good care of our family." People saw Indira and thought of a young deer without its mother's protection. soft, sweet, and reserved. Exactly what he looked for in a partner. Indira almost choked on her own saliva. She noticed the patriarch, Levi, showing his joy for his son by patting his knuckles with his old, dirty hands. Easton caressed her cheek and said, "If it weren't for the Decade Tribute Ceremony..." I just would have taken you hostage. Indira’s revulsion was palpable. Her skin prickled with gooseflesh as his skinny fingers glided down her cheek. He felt for her pulse with the tip of his thumb. Fear and dread were rising in her stomach. Easton grabbed her by the chin and turned her towards the bystanders. "My cousins are so jealous of me, they're eyeing you like food," he said. Indira suddenly felt her heart stop. The vampires' ravenous eyes made her feel as though she were exposed and on display. She froze up with terror. The blood in their eyes looked like it had been spilt. People used to say that Werewolves were much worse than Vampires, and now look at where we are. Suddenly, Easton got up from his chair and started walking through the woods, his eyes fixed on the trees. Indira was relieved he finally left; she believed he never would. She was secretly hoping he'd go down the steps and perish then and then. Unfortunately, he seemed to be in wonderful health and was speeding away with a man from behind a tree. We don't know what he was up to. Indira’s interest was piqued for a moment, and she dared to dream that perhaps he wasn't actually interested in her and that their marriage was merely a pretence. Perhaps he was batting for another club. Indira turned her cold, unfeeling face away, but then she noticed a shimmer. She, too, had left while no one was watching, and had crept all the way to the location on tiptoe. A number of hurried conversations reached her ears. Easton said, "She smells so sweet," to an unknown person. It's been a long time coming, but "I can't wait to taste her." "Truly, brother you are too ballsy, she has a protective order," a humorous voice drawled. "Who cares, Charles?" Easton laughed arrogantly. Is this Charles, the older brother of Easton ? Just what kind of restraining order was he referring to? Indira’s mind was blown by the unexpected development. "Anyway," Charles went on, " Assume this. Easton muttered, "This is huge!" Indira was mystified as to its nature. It couldn't possibly be their lack of manhood. She was currently eavesdropping while appearing casually leaning against the tree. Charles swallowed and then spoke more softly. A mysterious group of people have been detected near House Lochan ' borders; claim her immediately before the Great Lords find out. Easton asked in a shrill voice, "Do you think it's the Great Lords' henchmen here to reinforce the protective order?" But she's my nominee; I picked her for the event. If the Great Lords regard her highly, I couldn't have picked her, being a vampire and all. "I don't know," Charles said, sounding a note of caution. "Father has warned you to hurry up and make sure you command her not to tell anyone when you drain her blood into the bottle." Indira tried to make out the words, "I'm standing right here, stupid." "You think she won't tell?" Easton deadpanned incredulously. He actually made a witty remark for a change. There was sudden silence. Red eyeballs suddenly appeared in her field of vision. With a gasp, Indira dashed out of the trees. Easton said menacingly, "You heard us," as he moved menacingly towards her. There was fear in Indira . He grabbed her wrist hard as she tried to flee. He had a strong grip and squeezed her tightly. She screamed, and his face contorted, but he managed to keep his composure so as not to frighten the onlookers. She noticed the bulge in his pocket caused by the huge bottle he had abruptly tucked away. Easton reached behind her and asked, "Were you eavesdropping?" as he placed his hand just over her buttocks. Indira felt a knot of anxiety in her stomach. The memory of being in his company soured her mood. Even before this event, he was being subtly improper with her. When he was in her presence, his hands would automatically go to places they shouldn't. Is that why their ancestor Lochan decided to couple them off? "You've been a naughty girl, Indira ," Easton mumbled. You know why I'm disappointed in you, don't you? No. I just don't see it. Indira gulped down her saliva. She lacked the nerve to diss him once again, but she should have done it. Indira had been dazzled by his insults at first, but now she had come to terms with her predicament. Soon enough, they were a married couple. And he beat his wife on occasion. Easton persisted, his voice lowering, "You know what I do to disobedient little girls, right?" Again, Easton started to speak, but then he stopped. Perhaps he had a ghostly encounter. Indira recoiled and stood stock still. Someone was pressing heavily against her, but she couldn't tell who it was. She made an effort to search. The individual ordered, "Keep your eyes forward." Indira felt a jolt to her stomach. His voice was smooth and deep, but his words cut like a knife. He snapped, "Go," with a snarl of anger. Indira sensed a momentary lapse in Easton 's hold. Without waiting for a second warning, she bolted away while clutching her chest. Thump. Thump. Thump. Her rescuer sounded completely foreign to her, but she dared not turn around. She unexpectedly encountered her father. When Mason saw her distressed face, he exclaimed, "Indira !" She gave him a near knockout blow, and his cane thumped softly to the floor. Indira knelt unsteadily and took the cane from him. She felt dizzy and weak, and her breathing became labored. She had a recurrence of the near-death experience. She learned that House Levi was using her as a milk source. She couldn't harm Easton because he sponsored her family. Easton would always be there for her. Indira sputtered, "P-Papa..." Mason worriedly said, "Sweetheart, where were you? Are you okay?" as he took the cane from her and brushed the dirt from her fingers. He would never intentionally dirty her. Indira said, "There is a protective order on me," sounding shocked. You must be familiar with it by now. Mason never lied to his children. He took one look at her pale face and gave up hope. "Yes," Mason said. Although the Vampire Overlord and the Werewolf Overlord work together, they are not buddies; the only other occasion they reached an accord was for you. Indira couldn't believe it. What?
