Sebastian's POV
It is after the game, and I am already pissed off because we did not play as well as we could have. Although we won, we only won by one point, and I am used to winning by at least three. Hockey is an interesting game, and I love it. Before my mother died, I promised her that one day I would be her star. I know my grades are not as good as they should be, and my mother would be disappointed, but she always came to every hockey game there was. After my mother died, my father never came to my games. All that mattered to him was his new wife and her son.
I lost interest in studying because I know that my father loves Nate more than he loves me, and I know he wants to give Nate the company, even though that company was started by my mother. I am not going to allow him to do it, and I need to figure out how to get my grades up. Besides, the coach is standing in front of me, looking very angry.
“Seb, you have to get your grades up, or you are off the team. It is not my decision, but I cannot lose you, and I do not want to lose you. You are not only the captain, but you are also the star of this hockey team. You will also have to stop partying like you are. I know you went through difficult times, but do you really think your mother would be proud of you today if she knew that you are not studying? Don’t tell me that you are stupid, because you are not. I am going to arrange a tutor for you. It was a good game, and I know that you are still disappointed that you only won by one point, but you have to understand that it was an away game,” Coach Bennett says. “My son doesn’t play hockey. He plays football with your brother, or stepbrother. I know you don’t like Nate, and I am disappointed that he is not interested in hockey. You are like a son to me. There is only one solution to keep you on this team—you will have to be tutored, and I know exactly who can tutor you, the winner of the Harrington International Fellowship,” he continues.
“You mean Lyra, your daughter? Coach Bennett, you know that she is in love with my stepbrother, so why would she help me? I know my brother has talked to her, and I also do not like the way he is treating your daughter. He is playing games with her, and you have to warn Lyra. If she is willing, I will accept the help, but I want to talk to her first,” I say.
I like Lyra. She may be a little chubby, but she is beautiful, even if people don’t see it. She is always smiling, although they are bullying her. I only know her from seeing her from a distance, but I know my brother thinks that she is in love with him. She is too good for him. I want to talk to her because I want her to lose weight, and if she tutors me, I will help her lose weight. That will be a fair deal. However, I know Coach Bennett loves his daughter, and I do not want to tell him what I am planning.
“Well, if you think that you are going to influence my daughter to help you cheat, then you are making a mistake. She will not do something like that. She is a proper young lady, and I have already warned her about Nate. You know that I do not like Nate. Anyway, that is not the problem right now. The problem is getting your grades up. I will call Lyra, and you can ask her to help you. I am not going to ask her myself, because if she wants to refuse, she will not do it if I have asked her, and I am not going to force my daughter to do something she does not want to do. Go home now. It is already late. I heard that your brother is having a party at your house because your stepmother and your father are not home. I know I cannot stop you from partying, but I am going to ask you to keep it clean. I wish you would listen to me about that cheerleader. What’s her name?” Coach Bennett says.
“Veronica. Her name is Veronica Hale, and she is from a wealthy family. I am only dating her because my father wants me to date her. Coach, you know I am not interested in love right now. I am concentrating on my career as a hockey player because I believe my father is going to give my mother’s company to my stepbrother, Nate. That is why I lost all interest in studying. Besides, Nate is a grade A student, and I am failing all my subjects, including Business Economics,” I say.
“You will do better once my daughter is your tutor. I will tell her to talk to you tomorrow, or maybe you should talk to her yourself,” Coach Bennett says.
I pick up my bag and walk out with the coach. I walk to the Lamborghini that my father bought me and glance at Coach Bennett as he gets into his old pickup truck. He waves goodbye as he drives away. They are not wealthy, but they are happy, and I would give anything to be part of the Bennett family. It is a shame Lyra’s brother is always ashamed of his father. Peter does not understand that his father is the best man there is. I have a lot of respect for Coach Bennett.
I drive straight home, and as I walk into the house, everybody goes quiet. I know something is wrong, and when I look up, that is when I see them. Nate and Veronica are kissing on the couch. I smirk as Veronica jumps up and tries to push Nate away from her.
“Seb, it is not what you think. We were just fooling around,” Veronica says.
“Whatever, I don’t care. You are no longer my girlfriend. I hope you and Nate are happy together. Hey guys, it’s a party. I am a free man, and I can do whatever I want,” I shout to the boys as I grab a beer and one of the girls, and start partying like there is no tomorrow.
I have been waiting for the day I caught Nate and Veronica together, and damn, I am happy. I am finally rid of her. Nate will soon find out what a clingy, jealous b***h she is, and it serves him right because he always wants what I have. He can have Veronica. I am glad I am rid of her, and I just have to make sure I stay rid of her. As I said, she can be really clingy. She is already on her way to me, but I move away, dancing out of her reach. I don’t want to talk to her. It is over between us, and that is all that counts.
