Chapter 3

330 Words
Lucy looked at the ring on her finger, overwhelmed. "Chase, are you really going to divorce her and marry me?" Chase arched a brow. "I'm single." "Lucy, I'm afraid you still don't know, do you? Nia is the disgrace every rich girl in high society talks about." "Exactly. What woman would be shameless enough to hold a wedding without the groom?" "No matter what, Nia truly loves Chase. How can you say that about her?" The person who said that was Chase's friend, Jared Cole, the only one who showed me little respect. "Honestly, Nia is pretty hot." "And her figure is a killer. Every time she shows up, which man here doesn't stare? Too bad she has no brain." "Chase, when you're tired of her, pass her to me." "Yeah, she'd still be fun to play with." A burst of laughter rang out. His friends humiliated me, and he watched coldly from the sidelines. I pushed the door open, picked up the cake in my hands, and smashed it hard onto the table. Several people were caught in the mess. The worst hit was Chase's friend, Nolan Bennett. Nolan had never taken me seriously. "Are you crazy?" "I must be crazy to have fallen in love with scum like Chase Davis. But none of you are any better. You're all trash!" "Who are you calling trash?" As he spoke, Nolan shoved me to the floor. Chase was playing with Lucy's hair, his attitude as cold and cruel as I had expected. I looked at the man I had once loved so deeply. The last bit of love I had for him had been worn away completely. I didn't cry. My heart no longer broke for him. I climbed up in a sorry state, stared into his eyes, and said, "Chase Davis, I don't love you anymore." Chase gave a light laugh. His dark eyes carried a hint of mockery. "Whatever. Just don't come crying back and begging me later."
