Walking into New Views, my heart pounded as if I was walking into the lion’s den.
The thought that the company bestowed unto me the opportunity to do the job for them was overwhelming. And, especially the fact that I might run into Nicholas in this building.
“What are you doing here, Jenna? I thought I made it clear that we were over,” I heard that voice that I dread so much behind me immediately I entered into the reception.
‘Speak of the devil,’ I thought as I slowly turned back to look at him.
The fact that I am seeing him again after a week of him doing me dirty made the sight of him irritating for me.
He moves closer to me with a smirk plastered on his face.
“Did you come here to beg me? You don’t have any shame, do you?” he says, mockingly.
For a moment, I felt confused.
Was this the same Nicholas who would do anything for me not to be in a bad mood with him in the past?
He must have really grown some wings.
“Who knows? I might even consider taking you back. Maybe you will be the side piece this time. What do you think?” he says, bringing his hands close to my shoulders.
He probably thought he has gotten a arm rest.
I moved back, making his hands fall freely by his sides.
He closes his eyes and laughs dryly. Probably angry as I watch him clench his right fist.
“You don’t want to make this difficult for yourself, Jenna.”
“Mr. Nicholas, I am sure that you are well aware of the fact that we are at work and this act of yours could pass for an harassment at work. So, if you would excuse me, I have a meeting with the board,” I stated with a tone of finality.
Not knowing where the courage to say everything I had said came from.
I was surprised myself but he looks even more confused like a man whose ego has been bruised.
Just as I turned to leave his sight, I felt a hand pull me back.
It was him.
“Tell me, what do you mean by us beign at work. As far as I know, only I work here” she says, pained.
‘Well that’s about to change,’ I said with a tone of mockery in my mind.
“Are you Miss Jenna Blackwood?” a lady’s voice rang across the reception and I gave Nicholas a wry smile.
“Seems I have to go now. I will see you later, or not,” I said, hijacking my hand from his afterwhich I followed the woman up the elevator to the top floor.
She took me down the hall into a conference room where four men and two women were seated already.
I greeted everyone and took the seat that they offered me.
“Thank you, Miss. Jenna, for coming over. We love your previous works and that is why we contacted you. We would like to you,” one of the men in suit says.
I smiled in appreciation.
Someone brought papers to me in a file.
“Kindly go through our terms so that we would both know where we stand.”
I went through the papers and I find it appealing.
They want me to write my budget too immediately after signing.
I signed the papers and the conference ended.
On my way out of the building, I tried my best to sneak out to avoid coming head to head with Nicholas.
Just as I was about the exit the building. His voice halted me again.
“Now you are running away?”
I shut my eyes tight and then released them.
Nicholas is giving me problems and it seems the world doesn’t care about it.
Slowly, I turned around to face him, and there he was, coming towards me.
He stopped right in front of me, looking down at my face.
“You aren’t going to accept that contract, are you?” he asked, hi voice low but firm. Sounding dangerous.
I wanted to say something but it seems my tongue got caught at the corner of my eyes as I just looked at him, his muscles flexing and his face, dead serious.
He is angry that I got the contract and I honestly wish that I don’t care about me working at the same space as him, but look at who is getting all worked up first.
“If you will excuse me,” I said, finally getting my tongue, “I would like to leave immediately so that I can draft the budget I would be needing to work on this prestigious building and submit the quotation soon”.
I moved back, ready to leave as I hear him chuckle without having a smiling impression on his face.
“Ma’am, you are Miss Jenna, right?” I turned to where the voice came from and it was the receptionist.
Trying to adjust my facial expression immediately, I nodded my head positively and said, “yes”.
“The boss would like to see you in his office,” she said. “Please, let me walk you to the floor of his office”.
“Thank you,” I said.
I heard his scoff but who cares. I should go and talk about my money first before having him get mad over something I should be the one who is mad over.
He probably wasn’t expecting me to get over him this quickly.
I am not over him yet, but I would like to have that nonchalant attitude that will give him the impression that I have moved over him.
I followed the lady back to the elevator and now, we are back to the top floor.
“Go down the hall. His office is just at the extreme. I need to go back to my spot now,” she said, immediately getting back into the elevator.
I followed the direction she gave to me and I got the office.
I didn’t even knock yet when I heard a “come in” from inside.
I got in and the first thing that hit my face was the air in the office, coming from the air conditional, accompanied by the fresh scent of citrus.
I got in properly and quickly scanned the room with my eyes as it was very big for a office.
My eyes shifted to the back of a man in suit, his back turned to me.
His well ironed suit hugged his broad shoulders in an an attractive manner that I almost found it difficult to take my eyes off him until he turned slowly to face me.
There was this smile plastered on his face as he looked at me.
It felt like he was staring into my soul and I am not sure of how he did it, but it is having this intense effect on me.
“We meet again,” he said, his voice sounding like that of several angels.
I must have been lost in his world because for a second, I had no idea of what was going on.
Wait. He knows me?
“I… don’t understand you,” I managed to say, drawing my words in between.
“Maybe not. But I am very sure you know who I am quite well,” he said, taking long but slow strides towards me.
He stopped right in front of me, reaching up to his eyes with both hands.
He pinch both eye balls at the same time without blinking. His eyes still fixed on me and it made me cringe, making me shut my eyes tight.
“Open your eyes,” I heard his voice say.
Opening my eyes a little to see if his hands were by his side or not, they were.
I opened my eyes fully and looked in his face.
Faced with a pair of blue eyes staring down at me and piercing through my soul, I am reminded of that night, when everything changed for me.
These blue eyes reminds me of the ones that has been keeping me up since that last night.
My heart thumping very loud that I am sure he can hear them.
He smiled.
“Remember now?”
