Raine POV By the time we finally dragged them to the surface, my lungs felt like they’d been scrubbed raw with sandpaper. I coughed so hard I thought my ribs might crack, but we’d done it we actually saved them. Lucian hauled the boy up first, his dark hair plastered against his pale forehead, limbs limp as a ragdoll. I grabbed the girl, cradling her as we stumbled toward the rocky edge where the healers waited. The air was cold and sharp, cutting into my throat with every breath. “Come on, breathe, dammit,” I muttered, pressing two fingers against the girl’s neck. Nothing.
