MARIA'S POV The tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife as Connor stood awkwardly in the doorway, looking like he wanted to say something important. My gaze faltered as I became confident on how to react. Should I have reacted like I didn't see him standing there, or should I admit to acknowledging his presence but then act indifferent? "Maria, just be calm, wait for him to speak first.
