Chapter 10

932 Words
Amelia brushed her hair back out and down before turning to face Michael. "You sure you don't need me to stay?" She asked. He smiled back at her, "Yes, I'm sure. Everyone who is supposed to come in hasn't called off. If we get a last minute call we'll handle it. Thanks Amelia." Amelia nodded and then spoke, "I need to talk to you when we get some time. I gotta be somewhere here, but do you think I could swing by after work tonight? It'll be kind of late." She asked. "Yeah, it should be fine. Jake will be home, but he should be asleep and Bella is going to be out at a sleepover." Amelia nodded, "Thank you Michael." She said, grabbing the rest of her things from the locker and left. * Amelia sat in the truck outside the doctor's office pep talking herself to go in. She tried telling herself this was the better option because then they wouldn't be as alone because even if she hadn't admitted it outloud earlier. Damien hadn't been wrong, Amelia had found Alex to be very appealing to look at, but more than that she could picture the way his gentle hands would caress her curves in the dark, nothing but the light of the moon coming through the window to give them light. The way his hands would cup her breasts and the pad of his thumb rubbing over her n*****s. Her heart pounded in her chest as she clenched her thighs together. Amelia took a breath before stepping out of the truck, trying to get her hormones in check. It was silly really to be nervous of Dr. Callahan just because he was attractive. Before everything had registered, the sound of the receptionist interrupted her thoughts. "Who are we seeing today?" Amelia was a bit hesitant, "Amelia Lukyan," "And why are you here?" "I just need my hand checked out." She said holding up her bandage hand as if she was verifying what she said was the truth. "Have a seat." The woman said. It wasn't long before she was called back and for the second time that week was sitting in an exam room, only this time for herself. There was some soft music going in the room probably to help patients relax but Amelia was anything but relaxed. She tried to just clear her mind counting to 10 while breathing in-and-out slowly. “In. . . one,. . . out. In. . . two. . . out. In. . . three. . . out.” Amelia felt slightly better and was about to continue when a rap at the door caused her heart and nerves to act up again. As Alex walked he looked up at her with a smile. “I'm glad you could make it in Amelia. How are you doing?” he asked, while he looked over her chart. Amelia had a hard time forming a full thought, she was embarrassed to be lusting after a man like this, hell they’ve only briefly met a few times. “I'm doing just fine,” she said rather quickly. “I just came in to have my hand checked before I head off to work.” She added. Which earned her look from Alex the man, not Alex the doctor. “Didn't you just come from work?” he asked. Amelia answered a bit more harshly than she had meant to, “Some of us can't get away with having one job.” She was a bit irked he would assume she worked all the time. “Look Amelia I didn't mean to upset you further,”, “I wasn't upset, and I'm still not upset. I'm pissed off,” she said. “Look, let's put this aside and check out your hand.” he said trying to redirect her attention. She held out her hand but didn't look at him. “So are you going to tell me what really happened?” he asked while unwinding the bandage. When she didn't answer him, he continued to speak, “I noticed the burn on your neck as well Amelia.” he said as he wiped her hand. Amelia raised her other hand to the back of her neck “If someone is hurting you, I can get you some help. I can make sure that you're safe, Amelia.” Amelia had enough, “Listen Doc.” she said setting the tone, “I don't need help, if I told you what has been going on you'd lock me up in the psychword. So no, I'm not going to tell you as a doctor.” She said, While she was ranting, he had paused while wrapping her hand in a clean bandage, “What if you told me as Alex, the friend?” he asked, giving her a moment to think it over. “Like I said, you wouldn't believe me. Even if I did, I don't think I even believe it myself honestly.” She said, while a little voice in the back of her mind said she believed more than she thought. Alex just looked at Amelia, “Try me. I'm more open minded than you give me credit for.” He said. Amelia shook her head, “I think we are done here. Thanks for this.” she said with a look at her hand. “I still would like to keep an eye on it. It's starting to heal quite nicely,” He said “They'll be in with your papers shortly.”
