Chapter 13

630 Words
Amelia shut the truck off after parking in front of Michael’s house. She looked at her phone, and sent him a message. ‘Hey, I’m here.’ she sent and then added, ‘If you’re still up’. She waited a few moments getting lost in her thoughts, what the hell was she going to do? She finds out she’s an ‘angel’, Damien won’t leave her alone, not to mention he’s Ubel’s right hand man, she’s attracted to Alex even though his pushy behavior drives her crazy, and now her father seems to want to come back into the picture. She laid her forehead on the steering wheel, ‘What a mess.’ she thought. She jerked up at a knock at the window, and saw Michael. Amelia hit the unlock on the door. “I’m sorry it’s so late.” she said. Michael shook his head. It’s okay I was just watching TV, nothing special.” he said. “Now what did you want to talk to me about? Obviously it’s not something you wanted to be overheard otherwise you would have talked about it earlier.” Amelia nodded, “Michael, that night in the woods, I saw the demon from the store again. His name is Damien. He talks to me pretty frequently in my head, and tonight he even showed up to Jerry’s while I was working. I need you to teach me how to keep him out of my head. He can’t be able to look in there, he’s Ubel’s henchman and I can’t have him get to Beth.” Michael looked at her, his grim face upon hearing all of this. “Amelia, I’ll do my best. Though it may not do any good. Demons are parasitic and once they’ve connected and gotten their hooks into your mind it’s easy to get into it again and again.” Amelia laid her forehead on the steering wheel, “So even if you do teach me it won’t do any good?” She turned her head to look at him. “Not necessarily, you may not be able to completely cut him off but you could keep him out of the thoughts you don’t want him to see. Although it is a bit more difficult when you're sleeping because you won’t have the defenses up completely all the time like you would during the day.” She nodded in understanding. “Either way, I want you to teach me everything I should know. I need to be able to protect Beth. She’s too important to me, I can’t lose her. Especially to some asshole demon who helped bring her into this world.” Michael nodded, “Good, that’s what I need from you. You need to be ready to fight for this because it won’t be easy and I’m not going to go easy on you. It would have been easier to teach you as you grew but your mom had her reasons. But there’s no playing around now, not when Ubel is planning to wreck chaos. We’ll meet in the clearing where I talked to you, it’s free of distractions and you’ll be able to focus, at least for the first little while until you start getting the hang of things. Now you go home and get some rest. You look exhausted and we don’t want you falling asleep at the wheel.” Amelia said goodnight to Michael and was driving home when Damien started talking to her. “I’m hurt my Little Angel, trying to get rid of me are you? Don’t worry I’ll still see you in your dreams.” he said with a laugh and was gone as quickly as he came. “Motherfucker,” Amelia grumbled, driving the rest of the way home.
