Thirty-Eight

~Rona~ I stretch, letting my arms reach out high above my head. I don’t take control of this body often, so it’s been a while. This room looks okay, but it could definitely look better. I turn and look at the man himself. I’m going to be honest and admit that our feelings about Ericson haven’t been the same much of the time. I know what happened, but I feel things can be discussed. I’m not going to lie, but Ericson has always been attractive as hell to me. I’ve peeped when Isis interacts with him, and I always like what I see. I’m not going to try to change Isis’s mind, nor will I go after Ericson. I just want to be close to him for a while. His wolf has had the opportunity, so why can’t I? I lay on the bed, facing the ceiling. I have no idea what’s so fascinating about it, but Ericson has been staring at it since lying down. I slightly turn my head to catch his eyes, and my breath hitches when I see his black eyes looking at me. “I guess we had the same idea.” His gravelly voice does things to me in this human body. I smirk and turn my face, looking back at the ceiling. “I guess so. Blade, is it?” “Yes, and you are?” “Rona.” “Rona, mmmm. I like it.” I chuckle and roll my eyes. “As if you’d have a choice either way.” His chuckle trickles through me, setting in my bones. This may not be the best idea, but I’m going to enjoy it for now. “Our humans need to talk, you know.” I sigh and close my eyes. “I know, but I’m not sure how to make that happen.” “Same, I have no idea how to make it a thing, I just know it needs to happen.” I turn to look at Blade. “What’s the end goal here? What do we want for them?” “If nothing else, we need them to get along. We don’t want their hot and cold behavior to get us caught. I don’t know about you, but my main goal is to take over my pack.” “I feel the same. If we can get them to keep it together, that will work for me. I want my pack, my birthright.” “I… I’m sorry about your loss.” I close my eyes and let the sorrow wash over me. It still stings, if I’m being honest. Death may be a part of life, but that doesn’t make it easier to deal with. “Yeah. First, Mom and then Dad. It’s been rough, but it’s been worse on Isis.” Blade grunts in response. The silence envelops us, but it isn’t uncomfortable. “Are you staying over?” My initial response is, hell yes. There’s something about Blade, something about being with Ericson, that makes me feel good and at peace. I know that if Isis comes to and we are here, she’ll lose her sh.it, and I don’t want to deal with that. I need to ease her into it. Before I can answer, the sound of ringing peels through the air. I pull my phone up and connect the call. “Alpha Isis, it’s Alpha Felix! We have rogues in the area. They haven’t attacked, but they are roaming around.” “Give me an hour to get moving. In the meantime, keep me updated.” I disconnect the call and exhale. “So it’s started, huh? The Darkfang pack has reached out.” “Yeah. The entire thing is fishy.” I stand up and walk over to the windows, immediately identifying the door. I open it and look at Blade. “Take care of my phone, will you? Game on.” I jump off the balcony and shift midair. ~Jovanni~ I have to admit that I don’t really understand what the plan is right now. I mean, I get it, but I don’t get it. I guess the real issue is that I don’t understand Alpha Felix's problem with the Scarlett Moon Pack. I haven’t asked him because he’s still my Alpha, and it’s none of my business. Alpha Felix hangs the phone up and smiles. “She’s on her way. Is the location secure?” I shake the thoughts out of my head and turn to my Alpha. “Yes. We have people there and they are on standby. We have the building filled with the needed provisions. Everything is ready.” He nods, and a smirk grows on his face. “We get her, and then that boy will come for her. I will use that to challenge him for his position.” “He hasn’t officially taken over yet.” “Doesn’t matter whether I get the pack from him or his father. When this is all over, I will have what I want. You just play your part currently and let me handle the rest.” I nod and swallow the words threatening to erupt from my mouth. I don’t see how this is a good idea or how it will work. I guess it doesn’t matter, though, because the only thing I want is my mate. This plan gives me what I want, and that’s all that matters. I will make her see that we are meant to be, and she will take back her rejection. I look out of the office windows and catch the bursts of yellow light in the distance. They are spread out, but I know what it’s from. Those are the eyes of the rogues who have been paid to complete this ruse. I won’t say that they are trustworthy because what rogues are? They are being paid, and if they want the rest of their money, they will complete this job. We sit quietly for an hour, waiting for Isis and her team to show up. I’m nervous about the entire thing. I may not have had Isis for long, but I was able to learn a bit about her before she rejected me. She’s smart as hell; not too many things get past her. Honestly, I didn’t expect to go as long as I did without getting caught. I believe that it was the belief in the mate bond that helped me get away with lying and nothing else. I’m not super confident in this plan, but I need it to work if I want to have my mate back. The door to the office opens, and an Omega walks in. “Alpha, you have guests at the door.” The Omega leaves, and Alpha Felix stands, nodding at me. “Let’s go.”
