Chapter 28 – The Assassin Breaks

1196 Words

The world shattered into noise and light. Magic surged violently through Seraphine’s veins, ripping across the battlefield in raw, uncontrolled waves. She pressed her palm harder against Lucien’s chest, forcing power into him, desperate, reckless, terrified. “Stay with me,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “Please… don’t leave me.” Lucien convulsed violently. A scream tore from his throat as his body arched off the ground, every nerve igniting. The silver glow beneath his skin flared briefly then flickered. Too weak. Too fragile. The immortality spell was unraveling faster than she could anchor it.
