There was nobody to ask. My co-walker had disappeared. I was within the body of An Cailleach, with a host of people around me. There was laughter and music, smiling faces with hazel eyes and small ears, light without a source and a feeling of belonging such as I had never experienced before. As the light strengthened, I could see more clearly, as if a veil had been withdrawn. I remembered something that Mary had once told me. An Cailleach was said to mean 'old woman' or 'old hag', but the literal meaning was 'veiled one,' somebody who belonged to a hidden world.
