Ch.5 Indulgent Secret

1129 Words
Liam She sat among us, brazen and bold-faced, exquisitely dressed in an elegant white ball gown and immaculate obsidian hair that accentuated her unearthly beauty. So different than the normal tattered woolen maid's dress she always wore but, even so, it was difficult to miss her unusual silky midnight hair, her firm yet curvy physique, and unmatched beauty, so strikingly different from anyone in House VaLore. Unfortunately, I was not the only one to notice, as Dominic Violi fixed his gaze upon her. His lips twisted to one side, a smirk of appreciation. I don’t know if it was fear or anger that was causing me to grip onto Ophelia’s waist, hard enough to bruise, trying to make the shaky feeling go away. I cleared my throat, and Ophelia flinched. I quickly excused us from the southern Alpha’s. Away from Dominic. Ophelia goes silent and I can imagine the sadness in her face when she realizes that she did something to displease me. That hopeless in love look she gives me; It makes me want to trap her forever in a golden cage. I want to be the only one who gets to see her pain and tears. I lean slightly forward to glimpse her sadness from the corner of my eye. My eyes widened as I found she was not sad at all. Her features were blank, stoic as she gazed off, lost in thought. Her hazel eyes shimmered in the firelight of candles lighting the ballroom. The sight of her unwavering boldness was the last straw. “What has gotten into you, Ophelia?” My voice cut through the nearby chatter like a scythe. A hush fell over my father and the Southern Alpha’s in his group. I felt their collective stares like daggers at my back but ignored them. I will get what I want, the way I want. Ophelia’s eyes sharpened as they focused on me. So unlike her, so unfamiliar and foreign. “Have I done something to offend you? My future Alpha?” she said with such a calm demeanor. I unconsciously flinch as she uses my proper title, and not one of her mate. “It’s just, you’ve been acting differently.” “How so?” She lets out a heavy sigh, I feel the weight of something pressing down on my chest as it dawns on me, her aura is stronger, more levelheaded, and well put together than I ever remember. The conversation she held in perfect Italian can testify to her unknown abilities. What else could she be hiding? “It’s nothing,” I say before taking a deep breath. “Maybe you should go laydown, you might be suffering from side effects from your head injury today. There’s a comfortable silence between us as the heaviness of her newfound boldness sinks in and, with every passing second, it becomes easier to assert myself. “Liam is right, Ophelia.” My father's voice broke my gaze. “We don’t want you to overexert yourself.” He placed his hand on the middle of her back in warning. I resist the urge to pull her away from my father’s touch. Father catches this and raises a piqued brow in interest. He lifted his bushy brow, and signaled for someone beyond my vision. A moment later, I see Scarlet our headmaid come bustling to Ophelia’s side. “That’s enough excitement for one night, my dear.” She whispers as she ushers Ophelia towards the main exit and not once does she longingly look back. Anger builds in the absence of her unwavering affection for my attention. Since when has she ever gone a day without my presence being the source of her happiness? When did her love and devotion begin to fade for me? How did I miss it? The little forgotten Omega, Ophelia, caught my eye before she turned, and we discovered to be eachothers mates. Her deep hazel blue eyes reached right through me, touching something core deep within me no one else could see. She noticed things, others did not. So why couldn’t I do that same in return? why didn't I... I continue the night mingling among my father and mother, and eventually, to no surprise, Genevieve LaBlanc wraps herself around my free arm. Conveniently dressed in a matching gown to my suit. No doubt a scheme set up by my mother or hers. I’m not entirely sure and honestly I could care less. This night so far has left me torn. I wanted to confront Ophelia about her newfound boldness. Even though she isn’t within my view, I can feel her presence, it scratched that itch in my mind, that lingering sense of something lost. I picked up the nearest glass and downed it all in one go. Snapping my fingers for the waiter for another, I almost forgot that Genevieve was by my side. “Take this one Liam.” She purred informally using my name while she slipped a glass into my waiting hand. I give her a sideways smirk, the one I know she loves. Whatever, she is practically family, so no harm, no foul with appropriation. I don’t know how many drinks I had before the room began to spin and I made my way to the honeymoon suite meant for me and my mate. Mate, my Ophelia is waiting for me. I shove past the bedroom doors and find no one waiting for me. My chest stings as my thoughts are scattered, jumping from the present back to the earlier conversation in the ballroom, and her new brazenness. “O…” my voice is broken, gruff. I wanted to apologize, “I’m Sorr-” Slender arms snake behind and wrap around my chest. I wanted to turn around and make Ophelia apologize. She wasn’t acting the way I wanted her to. So, she is at fault. Before I knew it, small slender arms had made their way down my front and were now feeling me over my trousers. The thought of Ophelia touching me instantly roused my wolf. “O…” I paused, I don’t want to force the issue, it might make her worse. I am afraid that anything I do will put her at arm’s length, afraid she will reject me and run away. The room goes dark, and I grab ahold of her slender arm and bring her to my front. In swift movements, I lifted her and with a few strides I set her down on our bed. “You are mine, Ophelia.” I growled dangerously low. I want to show her that she is my obsession, she is my beautiful, indulgent secret. I want her to know she was made just for me, and me only.
