The Immortal 5 The Beginning: Rena's Story

Omri has been taken

A few weeks later when Rena was home, and she was feeling a little better. But her trip still weighed on her mind. Rena knew she would get over this just like she got over it before. She threw herself into her work. Making her work even more in-depth than it was before. She cooked for her small family every night. Slowly, she became herself again. Until one night everything Rena feared came true. It was just after they had eaten. The doorbell rang and Riley went to answer it. Rena was standing at the sink cleaning the dinner dishes. She had almost finished when Riley walked in with two companions. Rena looked up to see who came into the kitchen. She dropped a plate when she saw Adrian as well as Xander. The plate shattering on the floor shook her from her shock.

"Rena honey, are you ok? They said you knew them and that they were here to talk to you. I can ask them to leave if you wish."

Rena shook her head to tell him she didn't want them to leave. Riley left the room but stopped to give Rena one last look. As he left Xander was the first to speak.

"Renalynn, we have come to take you home now that it is safe. No one can threaten you anymore."

Rena looked down at her hands and realized that she was slowly getting pissed.

"I am home, what are you doing here?" Adrian answered with a smug look. That pissed her off even more.

Without really thinking about what she was doing several cutting knives begun to lift out of the block that they had been placed a few minutes ago when she looked up the knives went flying across the room at Adrian and Xander's upper bodies. The knives barely missed them because they side stepped them effectively without seeming to move. They slammed into the wall behind them but before she could do more damage Adrian was in front of her and pining her to where all she could see was him.

"Stop this Renalynn! I mean it you are still my wife. I am your husband, you must obey me." Rena laughed at him. Pushing herself out of his arms.

"My name is Rena, not Renalynn, and you are not my husband. My husband was killed over one thousand years ago. I saw his death. My home is here so you can just go and never come back. You are nothing to me. Do you hear me Adrian, nothing." She was yelling by the time she was done.

"You are still my wife Renalynn McDough, for you will always be mine. We spoke our vows in front of a coven, and our leader says you are still mine."

It wasn't what he said but how he said it to Rena that had her blood running cold. Rena looked at Xander and saw the truth in his eyes. But she still had one last trick in her box of tricks.

"But if I am your wife, why for the last thousand years have I lived alone, fought alone and survived alone? I had no help from any vampire or immortal at all. I made myself a life after my husband died. You are not the man I had married; he is dead to me and will always be dead. What do you two have to say to that? I didn't think you had anything to say at all. So now I want you out. Get out of my house."

Xander spoke up first. Stalling Adrian’s rage for the moment.

"Renalynn, my child, yes, you have taken care of yourself. But you are still his wife. You carry his mark. Yet even though you do not wear his ring, but you still have his brand on your body, do you not?"

They watched as her hand flew to her chest right over her heart. Her blood ran in his veins. He could feel her. Almost taste her sweetness on his tongue. But what they never expected was for Rena to show that she had no mark.

"I bear no mark, I haven't for some time now."

"Where is the bite mark? My fangs sank in right there, I know it. Xander you saw me make that mark on our wedding day."

"I had laser surgery to remove your mark fifteen years ago. But in my heart, I no longer bore your mark. To have it removed was a mere technicality."

The look that passed between Xander and Adrian was something she was not ready for. They turned to look at her. Rena knew they could take her on but they would over power her in a minute. But what she was not expecting was the blood curdling scream that came from the living room or the crash as something breaking. Rena pushed her way passed Adrian as she ran from the kitchen into the living room. She was not prepared for the fact that Omri was nowhere in sight or that Riley was lying on the floor with Kali bending over him holding a hand to the cut on his head. Kali looked up to Rena with tears running down her face.

"They took him Rena. We were just sitting here talking and they came in grabbed him and they went out the window. Rena we have to get him back. I need to have him back."

With that Rena’s knees collapsed and she sank to the floor staring at the mess. She was at a loss, her brother was missing and she couldn't move. Her whole body started shaking with her sobs of fear and pain and with her body shaking so violently it soon had the room vibrating with every shudder. They didn’t even stop when arms came around her. She totally lost it, she cried like she never cried before losing Omri was too much. when her sobs subsided she looked up into Adrian’s face and saw his concern for her.

"We'll get him back Renalynn, I promise. I’ll do anything to get him back just to see you smile. I hate it when you cry. We'll get him home for you."

Everyone jumped when the doorbell rang. Xander went to open it. They were watching the door as he walked back in with a small brunette behind him. She spoke so softly that everyone had to strain to hear her speak.

"I hope I’m not too late. But I see he has been taken so my timing is off. I had hoped to get here before he was taken but I had to take a cab. Anyway, I know where Omri is. I can help you get him back."

Rena looked up at the girl from where she sat on the floor. Something was familiar about her.

"Oh forgive my rudeness, my name is Breanna Tyson. I saw everything that happened here in a vision. I can help you get him back."

Adrian stood and helped Rena to her feet as she rose they moved away from each

other. as if the moment they shared had never happened .

"All we want is Omri home." Kali spoke from the floor as Riley was slowly getting up.

Rena was wiping he tears away with her hands. She tried not to look at Adrian. Right now she felt like a child. She had let her guard down and Omris' thoughts entered her head. He was talking to her. He was telling her he was alright that they hadn't hurt him and that they didn't plan on hurting him unless she didn't give up her life. Adrian saw her face go from flushed to as pale as her shirt.

"You heard his voice. He told you what they want." Breanna said directly to Rena.

"I have to die for him to live. They said my life for his. And they know I would do it. I would give my life to save his. How could they know my love for my brother is that strong, that I would willingly give my life for him."

"You will not give up your life! I will not loss you again. You are my life, my love. We will get him back and you will live forever."

Those words shocked everyone except Breanna; it was like she expected him to say that.

"I will give my life if I have to and you have no choice, no say in anything I do for my brother. I will if I have to so that he can live."

"Um, Rena, is it? You’re not going to die. I have seen the way to get him out and save both your lives. But you have to do as I say or else everything will go wrong."

Everyone set out getting cleaned up or cleaning up. Breanna pulled Rena aside and told her what she has seen for her.

"Rena I know I don't know you very well, but your love for your brother will save not your life. I know I said that you would not die but I had to for them, you will give your life for him. You will die the night we bring Omri home. You will die trying to save his life and it will be in Omri‘s arms. It will not be expected. It will happen so fast no one will have time to save you." As she spoke Rena turned to look at her small family and the reality of those words hit home hard. If this was the last few days with them she would make the best of them. They talked for hours trying to locate this place where Omri was being held. Voices rose from the guys. Rena became very angry when it was suggested that she stay behind so that nothing would happen to her. She let them know what she thought of that idea and where to shove it.

As it turned out no one got any sleep that night but as dawn crept over them Adrian and Xander had to sleep. They would plan tonight when they awoke. Rena watched as Adrian went into her basement to slumber. She let her mind wonder over every moment in her life without him, but the hardest was not having Omri by her side. She felt his presence in her mind. He was telling her he knew how she felt. That this was not the worst thing to ever happen to him but the fact that she thought of giving her life to save his had him very cross with her. He knew he would see her again. They were coming so he couldn't talk to her right now but he loved her. Rena tried to sleep but it was a troubled sleep filled with dreams of Omri and Adrian dying with her not reaching them in time.

Her screams had awakened Adrian. Who was rushing to her side in the darkness. When he reached her room he saw her tossing and turning fighting some imaginary foe. Murmuring as she fought. Adrian rushed to her side and started shaking her awake. Rena’s eyes fluttered open to see Adrian staring at her in concern. She reached up and wrapped her arms around him cried on his shoulder. He tried to comfort her as best as he could. He felt her pain but mistook it for the loss of Omri.

"Renalynn it will be ok, he will be fine. Before you know it he will be here in his home waiting for you."

Rena cried even harder because he was right. They would not understand if she didn't come back with them that night.

"I know you are right. I dreamed that he died before I could get there in time." she left out the things that scared her the most.

For all she had said those words made him understand her. He may have been without her in his life but he knew her well. He pulled back slightly to look into her eyes. He saw the truth there. As he was about to speak a knock sounded the door followed by they were waiting in the living room. Adrian stood and held out his hand for Rena so he could help her out of bed. Once she was standing she didn't release his hand but walked down the hall holding it.

Sometime during the day a letter from the people that had taken Omri had arrived. Riley was reading it out loud. It was the terms of Rena’s death. They looked at her but she wasn't showing a reaction to this news at all.

"Well, they think they know what they are doing." she spoke in a deadly calm voice as if she accepted the fact that she was to die. “But I have one thing they never expected. I have my family here to help me get our brother back" she looked at Kali as she spoke. “and we have true love to get us through this. He may not be here in our presence but he is here in our souls." Kali started crying softly.

"Ok, let’s get our brother back." this was from Riley.
