Anton's game

Anton's Game The following weeks held had the family ready to strangle Rena. Her moods were ever changing. She was ready to kill them as well. "Damnit, Rena!" She was standing at the front door when she heard riley shout. She felt the smirk on her face. He must have found the new papers that Keith had delivered almost an hour ago. She had left them spread out all over the kitchen table. Most of the papers were on both Adrian and Xander. It explained where they had been since they 'died'. "What Riley?" She shouted back. She watched as he came swaggering into the entryway. "What in the name of the gods is all that paperwork on the table for?" She kept her expression blank as she looked at him. She took her time answering him. "Because there were things that I needed to know. Some of it is from when Anton made his entrance into my life." Riley looked as if he didn't believe her. But he didn't push her on the subject. Because he knew that he wouldn't get anywhere if he did. At that exact moment three other doors in the house slammed at the same time. Causing an echo that was almost deafening if they had not been on the first floor instead of the third floor. They announced that the others were heading their way. It seemed all at once they arrived in the entryway. But once they stopped in front of Riley and Rena none of them knew what hit them. "Oh my god! Rena?!" Kali screamed into the thick black smoke. "Rena?" The rest shouted when she didn't respond, all fearing the worst. "I can't find her, Omri." Kali sobbed. "Bre, why didn't you see this?" She just shook her head in response because she honestly didn't know why. "Where is Rena, has anyone seen her?" Kali continued to sob from the shelter of Omri's embrace, just as the emergency departments where arriving. And suddenly there officers everywhere. Then there was a swarm of firemen and paramedics. "Are all of you alright?" Each dusty head nodded that they were fine. "Is anyone missing?" Kali nodded. "Our sister Rena, she was with us when the explosion hit. Now we can't find her." She started crying even harder. She turned her head and sobbed into Omri's dirty shirt. "We got a missing Woman!" Once that went out among the emergency workers everyone started shifting through the rubble. The sun was setting as they began their desperate search for Rena. They were still shifting through it when Adrian and Xander arrived a few moments after the sun completely set. "What in the hell happened here?" Xander growled. "Someone tried to blow us up." Riley said grimly, "two guesses to who it was and they first one doesn't count." "Where is Rena?" Adrian asked dreading the answer. "We don't know. She wasn't with us when we all woke." Adrian looked over the rubble. He couldn't sense her because there were too many humans. "Here!" a voice called out form the darkness. All at once the firemen and paramedics rushed forward. Six pairs of anxious eyes were riveted to where they were gathered. They stood by and watched helplessly as they pulled an unconscious Rena from the rubble. "Why isn't she waking up?" Kali whispered. Omri just shook his head. He didn't know, all of their eyes were still on Rena's unmoving body. They watched as they strapped her to a backboard. As the paramedics walked past with her that heard one mutter to his partner. "I can't believe she is still alive. She should have been dead from the force of the blast." Kali almost collapsed when she heard that. As the paramedics reached the ambulance Rena was already regaining consciousness. "She is waking up." they heard one of the paramedics say to an officer who was standing by. "Hold on a second honey, you're strapped to a backboard to prevent any further damage. How do you feel? Any pain?" Rena took stock "No I am fine. Where is my family? Are they ok?" The paramedic noticed that she was starting to freak out. "They are fine, they are standing right over there by your mailbox. "We have to get her to a hospital so they can assess the extent of her injuries." Rena giggled as she watched Omri roll his eyes. She knew that he could hear what was being said. "I'm betting that they don't find anything wrong with me." She said as they loaded her up into the ambulance. As they were doing that a detective came up behind the others and spoke as the doors closed behind Rena. "Excuse me, I know that you probably want to follow her but I have a few questions. Do any of you have any idea who would want to hurt your family?" Without knowing the detective had opened a huge can of worms with that first question alone. It caused everyone to look at the departing ambulance. "Not all of us, just one." spoke a deceptively calm Xander. The detective looked confused. "You'll have to speak to Rena." was all that Omri said and with that their statements were taken. Once they were allowed to follow Rena they wasted no time at all. Upon arriving at the hospital they were showed were to find Rena. Who was being examined by a doctor? "You can stop doing that. I'm fine, nothing hurts. There aren’t any body parts that aren't functioning normally. As you can see." Just at a glance they could see that she was getting angry. Everyone knew how dangerous that was. "It's my job you make sure that everything is fine. Not to take your word about it." As they walked into the room they saw the doctor get sent flying backwards. "Rena!" Kali said sharply they all could see that Rena was very angry and by the looks only getting angrier. The doctor was standing there looking confused. "Are you ok? We saw you trip as we came in the room." The doctor still looked confused but nodded that he was ok. "I want a different doctor now." Rena demanded. The disgruntled doctor left the room shaking his head and Rena smiled as he did. "Renalynn McDough, he was just doing his job. Did you have to push him that much and with that amount of force? You could have killed the poor man." She glared at Xander for using her name like that. "My name is Rena R.E.N.A. Not Renalynn, do try and remember that will you?" Xander got this smug look on his face. He remembered alright. He chose to remind her that he still had a little authority over her. Which she decided wasn't in her best interest anymore. "Go bite someone and leave me the hell alone." With that spoken the door to her room opened and the detective that questioned the others entered. "Ma'am, my name is Detective Paul Parker. I need to ask you a few questions concerning the activities that occurred tonight." Rena's gaze swept upwards. She was getting really sick of this. "Fine but make it quick." She watched the detective pull out his little black note pad. "If you all don't mind leaving the room for a few minutes. This will go a little faster." Rena glared at the detective for even suggesting that they leave. "They were there and they are not leaving this room so you can just deal with it. If not then I have nothing to say to you. “The detective looked at the others then at his little book and shrugged "Fine with me, Do you know who would purposely set off a bomb in your house effectively trying to kill you?" Rena snorted. "Yea quite a few people I'd say." The detectives’ eyebrow shot up questioningly. "She's just joking." Omri slotted in. Which in turn earned him a very dirty look from Rena. "I am joking. No, I don't know who would want me dead. I'm a head chef in a very popular restaurant. Everybody likes me." Parker wrote that down in his little book. "Where were you standing when the explosion occurred?" Rena got an exasperated look on her face and let him know how she was feeling with her answer. "I. Was. Standing. By. The. Front. Door. so the blast tossed me further. Is that enough of an answer for you or are you going to continue to as me such inane questions?" The detective shook his head. "Ma'am I am just doing my job. Your family received the same questions." Rena let her head fall forward. "I'm fine. I have home owners insurance. I don't know who wants me dead. If I did do you think I would be sitting here? I just got tossed over a hundred feet from my front door by a blast that was meant to kill me. I had half my living room fall on top of me. I'm tired of this hospital and I am tired of your inane questions. I want to go home but I can't because I really don't have a home to go back to. Now Detective Parker, if you don't mind getting the hell out of this room because I am done talking to you." She never looked up as she spoke. "Maybe when she is not in shock we can get a more detailed report from her." With that he left the room. When the door closed behind him Rena sighed loudly. "Anton is going to die." It came out barely over a whisper but Xander and Adrian heard her just fine. "Rena, he just tried to eradicate you and your family." Rena still didn't look up. "Don't you think I know this?" Omri could feel the anger was self-directed. And the burning rage towards Anton for placing her in this situation. He moved to where he was standing next to her. He closed his mind to everyone but her. "Rena, don't think that just because he did this it's your fault. It's not. We were there because that’s where we chose to be at that specific moment in time. Besides this isn't the first time that bastard has tried killing you." Rena looked up at him. "Don't you think I know that? He almost succeeded today. He was this close," she held her thumb and forefinger and inch apart, "to actually ending my life. As well as each and every one of yours. What I am really angry about is how in the hell did he manage to get that bomb inside the house?" Omri was beginning to believe her anger was justified. "Rena that bastard could have planted it at any time by bribing anyone with a lot of money." Riley fairly growled his anger growing as well. But before she could respond a new doctor came in the room. "Well Mrs. McDough." "It's just Ms McDough" saying this earned her a extremely nasty look from Adrian. "I'm sorry about that; I just wanted to let you know that everything came back fine. Nothing looks out of place. You're extremely lucky to have survived an explosion of that magnitude without even a scratch." Rena looked smug when he said this. "Those paramedics just lost their bet with you" Breanna said amusement coloring her voice and Kali smothered a laugh with the back of her hand. The doctor looked confused. Breanna relented and told him about the bet. "Rena bet the ones that brought her in that nothing was wrong with her. I don't know the terms of the bet but I do know however that they lost." That made the doctor c***k a smile. "You can go home as soon as you’re discharged. I'll send a nurse in with the papers." He was laughing as he left the room. "About damn time I get to leave this idiotic place." Everyone laughed. A nurse walked in and was soon followed by another one. No one was concerned by the appearance of the other nurse. As the first one discharged Rena the other one leaned over her shoulder and whispered into her ear. "Anton sends his regrets, he so wishes that you had died in the explosion. He also says to tell you until next time." With that they both left the room. Rena was shaking, not because she was scared she was anything but scared, she was enraged. So enraged that the walls were beginning to vibrate causing Xander to block the door. “We have to get her out of here or she will bring the entire room and the hospital down on us all.” “No, we have to calm her down.” Adrian moved in front of Rena. She looked up into his eyes. The next thing she knew was that she was nose to nose with him and it felt as if he stole her breath away. She felt the world start to go black and it was hard for her to do anything but concentrate on breathing or at least fighting to breathe. When the room stopped vibrating Adrian moved away and Rena was allowed to breathe again. “If you ever do that again I will personally shove a stake in your heart with the greatest of pleasure.” It was loaded threat but the raspiness made it sound weak and empty. But all knew she was serious about it. Riley helped her to her feet and they moved to the door. All Rena wanted to do was get the hell out of the hospital. She also knew that she had to face the wreckage that was her home. “Are they going to let me into the rubble to save what I can?” No one could answer that. Rena began to walk along the hallway, while the others followed her slowly through the maze of corridors to the exit. She always hated hospitals. Upon exiting the automatic doors to the emergency room Rena breathed a sigh of relief. “Rena, do you want to drive by the house or go straight to Xander’s house?” Based on her exhaustion Rena decided it might be best if she went to Xanders’. “Xanders’.”
